Forever violin

bevelino · 18/09/2022 18:53

I bought my dd’s a Boodles initial necklace which has a small diamond. They wear the necklace every day and it means so much to them and me.

Selok · 18/09/2022 20:37

Thanks all for great ideas! My DD likes jewellery, earrings etc but terrible with keeping them safe however she should treasure this one so it would mean a lot to me- I guess my budget is within reasonable limits maybe up to £500 maybe could stretch a little as she is my only child- one 18🥰
A Tiffany necklace is good, also looking for good quality locket necklace - think it is lovely -
Mulberry Bag- she hates carrying bag mind you she will need that
Cello- she plays piano and she wanted to start learning cello but it is too big not sure how to fit with a piano in the room but spot on suggestion that!
A good suitcase - good idea- looking at ted baker ones

We gave our 18 year old DD a Cavalier King Charles puppy and the family went together to give her an aquamarine cocktail ring similar to one I had and which she loved.

youcantry · 18/09/2022 23:44

My ExH and I bought her a car (we had invested money from when she was a baby) and I had my platinum and diamond engagement ring made larger for her to wear on her middle finger, as something to treasure and keep.
Plus some other personalised gifts including a star chart from the night she was born, champagne glasses with her name and 18 on with a bottle of champagne, my parents gave her money and a Tiffany necklace. Her grandma paid her car insurance for a year.
Got my son's in January and I'm so glad we put a little money away each month for their big birthdays as I've no savings now!
Hope your daughter has a lovely birthday and treasures your chosen gifts.

I got 18 gifts for my dcs 18th.

I wrote a little note about what they were like at every age and put them in a bag and they did a lucky dip, so if they pulled out number 4 there was a little bit about they were like at 4 and they opened gift number 4 etc.

The gifts were things like art supplies, a new jacket, scratchcards, an engraved watch, a gorgeous book by David Attenborough, weights, labyrinth chess set, I also customised some trainers and made some other things too. There was a mix of cheaper things and more expensive things, but my dc absolutely loved it and had a little cry over the notes.

Mine will be getting a bike for getting herself round Uni and a Clogau necklace.

This sounds delightful. Good choice

For lockets look at Astley Clarke, they do beautiful ones.

Maybepossibly22 · 19/09/2022 07:16

My DD is a long way off her 18th, but my parents got me my gorgeous cocker spaniel boy for my 18th. He was my best friend and I lost him a week before my 30th. They also paid for a trip to Rome for me and now DH for my 21st. Both wonderful memories that I will treasure for my whole life.

surlycurly · 19/09/2022 07:32

I got DD a Mac book for uni. She also got a matching necklace and bracelet from me and her brother so she had something to keep. She was absolutely delighted.

SBAM · 19/09/2022 07:40

For my 18th I got a ring, which my parents had had made by a local jeweller in a design to match one I’d always loved of my mums.
My brother got a nice watch for his 18th.

Wool

😳

SpiderinaWingMirror · 19/09/2022 07:47

Dd1 had a macbook. Dd2 a car for similar price.
Both were given a locket that my grandmother bought them for their first birthday, knowing she wouldn't be around for their 18th.

PandaOrLion · 19/09/2022 07:48

I got flying lessons.
my parents didn’t want to buy something that I may go off at some point so felt an experience was better. I did ten hours of flying and loved it.

AuntieMarys · 19/09/2022 07:48

Money. She hated jewellery.

puddlesofmothers · 19/09/2022 13:31

I am currently looking at a weekend bag my dad bought me 30 years ago. It's been around the world a couple of times and is still looking fantastic. It's a classic bag that cost less than £50 I'm sure but I'm so glad to have it and the memories.

Selok · 19/09/2022 20:38

@puddlesofmothers it is so lovely

We decided to not get super expensive gifts, but to have something to remember. The DC had the choice of an 18th party with friends, or a trip away with me (DH doesn't travel).
DD1 hates all jewellry and doesn't wear makeup. She had an engraved glass, a bottle of prosecco, a couple of special books and some stuff for uni. As she loved ancient history I took her on a long weekend in Athens seeing the sights.

DD2 is 18 soon and has perfume, some nice quality but not designer necklaces and earrings, and we are having a short break somewhere sunny at half term.

AboutDamnThyme · 19/09/2022 20:54

DDs just had hers. I did 18 tiny presents...bath bomb, chocolate, novelty pasta, personalised key ring etc.

XH and I, in a rare moment of teamwork, got her ring that she wanted from both of us.

He also did a spa day and Harlem Globetrotters tickets and I'm taking her to London for a long weekend on Friday.

AboutDamnThyme · 19/09/2022 20:56

Which I realise sounds really indulgent but she didn't want a big party so the weekend is in lieu of that really and has been a year in the planning and saving for!

Flatandhappy · 21/09/2022 06:07

Some special jewellery and a family city break where she was able to bring her boyfriend too.

141mum · 21/10/2022 16:32

I got our dd a personalised number plate for her car

cheninblanc · 21/10/2022 23:04

A watch she wanted, some jewellery and little bits like keyring and gin
