Hi all. Can I ask what your DS around 15 take their packed lunches in. Are plain sandwich boxes the in thing or sandwich cool bag. Ds always has hot dinners but wants to save for a big item and is going to use dinner money I give him which he can spend 5.00 a day on rubbish sometimes. Obv I won't give as much ie taking out ingredients Told him to see what friends have lunch in but he says doesn't know.

He is helpful as usual!

DS12 uses an ancient fjallraven navy lunch bag (with a broken zip but I’m not allowed to replace it) with a variety of stasher bags and plastic pots inside (we try and avoid cling film).

Ifailed · 04/03/2022 06:43

At 15 can't he arrange his own packed lunch?

HarlowHenry · 04/03/2022 06:44

Generally some pasta in a reusable takeaway container or Tupperware type box. If it was a sandwich then either the same plastic box or a sandwich bag.

AmberGer · 04/03/2022 06:45

Sistema box with compartments

Mummydoctor · 04/03/2022 06:46

My nearly 13 year old uses a hype lunch bag with various pots/reusable wrap in depending on what he’s taking. He’s a swimmer and eats a lot so will sometimes take a separate plastic bag with extra snacks in.

AlwaysLatte · 04/03/2022 06:47

My 14 year old has used this for years. Or a flask for hot food.

We have stainless steel boxes that were from a camping shop. They can withstand being chucked about.

WinterCarlisle · 04/03/2022 06:52

All my DC have sistema lunch cubes. They’re ace! Things my 15 year old boy likes are sandwiches, wraps, cold pizza, veggie sausage rolls, quorn nuggets, veggie pasties, mini cheddars, fruit, cereal bars etc. He doesn’t eat much at lunchtime as too busy playing football and ruining yet another pair of school shoes Hmm

Mumdiva99 · 04/03/2022 06:52

Plain coloured lunch bag with velcro at the top.
Plastic sandwich box - the flat kind that fits 1 round of sandwhich.
Other small tubs with nuts/grapes etc

He eats loads at the moment....so typically he gers a round of sandwhiches, a wrap, 2 or 3 bits fruit, cereal bar, other small thing (mini sausages etc), sometime small bag crisps. I also leave money on his school account so he can top up if necessary with something else.

Drink in a refillable flask.

My 2 adult sons take lunch to work each day. I have lunch boxes from Robert Dyas. One son has sandwiches most days, crisps, fruit, choc and maybe a cake or nuts. The other has either pasta with tuna or chicken, he does his own and also takes leftover food. I have some small freezer packs, but these are quite heavy to carry around each day.

teezletangler · 04/03/2022 06:55

Mine are much younger but we've always used Sistema, as do a lot of other children in their classes. The large "bento lunch" is a good size for a teen or adult.

Belledan1 · 04/03/2022 07:02

Yes Ifailed he probably could but he is a typical lazy teenager only child that I probably spoilt. Not harming anyone. I wasn't asking re what food but storage. He can cook for himself and does quite a lot.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Neither of mine will take lunchboxes or a proper lunch for that matter. I’m lucky if I get them to take a bag of crisps. No chance of getting them to take any sort of lunchbox.

savehannah · 04/03/2022 07:05

My 15 year old usually takes crisps and other crap just shoved in the front pocket of the school bag lol

autumnboys · 04/03/2022 07:05

Mine carry plain lunch bags. Ice block in summer.

The current ones are a brand called Smash which I got from Amazon.

Svara · 04/03/2022 07:05

When he bothers, he takes a wrap in a 500ml plastic container and a nut bar, both fit in his blazer pockets. Sometimes takes a tin of pineapple as is. He is less than 10 minutes from school so usually just eats when he gets home.

OverByYer · 04/03/2022 07:14

Mine used to take chicken and rice in a food flask

collieresponder88 · 04/03/2022 12:01

I don't think a 15 yr old would be seen dead with a lunch box

Quamora · 04/03/2022 12:07

Mine takes an old takeaway container with a sandwich in. Rejects the proper lunchboxes. He also shoves crisps and a chocolate bar in his pockets. Then eats more when he gets home

Howmanysleepsnow · 04/03/2022 12:09

Definitely no lunch box/ bag! Crisps/ fruit/ cereal bars chucked in his bag. Sandwich/ tortilla/ pasta in a Tupperware container.

Chasingsquirrels · 04/03/2022 12:09

Just 16yo has been using one of these for ages, he takes a variety of things (when he can be bothered).

Ahh thanks all.

It will probably depend on what his peers are using for their lunches. However managing to get that info from him may prove difficult if my 15yr old ds is anything to go by.

He uses a plain non branded box. Not Sistema. Not coloured. Just chucked into his backpack.

Platinumclouds · 04/03/2022 15:47

Sistema lunch cube here for both teens.
