He’s no viable alternative and wants to leave currently living at home any ideas

No point in him staying if he's not ready, and no shame in taking a bit of time to work out his vocation. But I would insist he gets a job locally - there are so many jobs around right now in hospitality, delivery, cleaning etc. He needs to be working to give him some structure to the week and financial stability so he has some savings he can use for travelling or private courses he might choose to sign up for in vocational training.

Agree with others about finding a job in the outdoors? Could he do a gardening qualification/apprenticeship? People where I live are always wanting gardening doing.
