Socks and Sliders

What are your thoughts of socks and sliders. My two boys (15/12) have gone crazy with this and want to wear socks (Black or white only) and their adidas or SuperDry sliders to the shops and sometimes out with friends. Is this the new fashion? Growing up for me it was Sliders and no socks or you'd only get funny looks with socks. Is this normal fashion

Been a thing for a while. I think it’s absolutely fucking hideous but that’s how I know I’m now a grown up 😂

I think sliders are horrible and tacky even without socks, but this takes it to a new level.

FippertyGibbett · 15/08/2020 08:36

It’s just as bad as socks and sandals IMO.

googybob · 15/08/2020 08:40

Apparently the fashion set have moved on to just a standard sandal with a sock

letsgomaths · 15/08/2020 08:44

Perhaps it started because a teenage boy had his toenails painted by his sister, so he wore the socks to hide them. I think it looks awful, and the young adults do it too - the students next door are frequently in sliders and socks. It's really odd when you see armies of teenagers loitering, and they're all attired like that.

Mind you, I thought I was being rebellious as a teenager with my choice of summer footwear: trainers without socks at any hint of warm weather, and I certainly didn't wear invisible socks!

FinnyStory · 15/08/2020 08:44

If the posh kids have started doing it the PRU kids will soon stop Grin

Spied · 15/08/2020 08:46

Fab!
I've been wearing socks with my Birkinstocks around the house. Soooo comfy.
If the doorbell has rang I've quickly taken off the sandles or socks( if I've time) so no one can see my foot ensemble. Now I'll wear with pride!!

Spied · 15/08/2020 08:47

Of course, having only one of each does make it somewhat difficult to walk... but fashion, darling.
orangeicecream · 15/08/2020 08:50

My 14 Yr old does this sometimes but I don't think he's being trendy... Just too lazy to put trainers on

DianasLasso · 15/08/2020 08:57

Ha - I first came across this via rugby. No boots in the club house, so DS and his mates all have sliders for after the match. I can only dream of the sartorial elegance of sliders paired with clean white socks Grin

As an aside, due to a complicated set of events (involving blisters, a hot day and a long walk to a conference venue) I have tried socks and sandals. OMG! Most comfortable footwear combination ever. I just wish I had enough of a give-no-fucks attitude to wear it. (In RL socks were whipped off just round corner from venue, plasters applied, and I limped round for the rest of the day, mildly uncomfortable but presentable).

googybob · 15/08/2020 09:08

@Ughmaybenot 🤣🤣 fashion does not care about comfort

googybob · 15/08/2020 09:10

To my shame I did wear sliders and socks whilst glamping last yr. Essentially they were my slippers.

NewNewt · 15/08/2020 23:32

I've invented the next wave: flip flops an strainer socks - very comfy in warm weather

letsgomaths · 16/08/2020 07:40

As a sock refuser, I need to get hold of a customised pair of sliders, which say "no socks" on one, and "for me" on the other. Alternatively "knock your" & "socks off" might work, like in some adverts for sandals.

(I'd rather people look at my feet, than my ugly face mask.)

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 16/08/2020 21:31

What's RPU?

Teen ds goes barefoot or wears his flip flops.
No sliders here.

itsgettingweird · 16/08/2020 21:43

It's been that way since last Christmas and if not before!

My ds is a swimmer and it started to add ages to them getting changed.

Gone were the days of slipping damp feet into sliders Grin

PRU - Pupil Referral Unit.

Papergirl1968 · 16/08/2020 22:23

Are sliders and mules the same thing? I have a cheap, comfy silver pair from Home Bargains which I love, and use as my summer slippers, but I also go out in them. Definitely worn without socks though!

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 17/08/2020 11:36

Thanks

Aramox · 18/08/2020 06:30

Oh god this is mine but with unbranded school socks. Hide my eyes!

TeenMummy · 18/08/2020 18:52

Thanks Ops now I don't feel like it's just mine. Mine are on the branded sliders and matching socks to go with it or ankle socks x

@FinnyStory you sound very snotty! My dd and her friend wear them too, only with fluffy Sliders. It looks absolutely vile but I can't say anything or she will like them even more!

Bloomburger · 21/08/2020 22:10

Yes and hair bands on boys. DS looks like an alpaca with a long curly fringe and then he sticks a hair and on it and it looks really stupid.

I bet our parents thought sun in and ra ra skirts were ridiculous though!
