Drunk teen!

My DD is 18 next month. Yesterday she met up with a friend in the park- first time since lockdown. She came home drunk at 8pm after 3 hours out and got sick on her bedroom carpet!
They went to a supermarket and bought 8 cans of cider, which they drank in the park! I can't believe it!
How should I handle it? I'm in shock! She's normally fairly reserved!

Diamond white...we had white lighting & black. Terrible stuff

Quite normal for an eighteen year old, especially one who has been isolated for a few weeks. I'd be more concerned about bedroom carpet than anything else. In future, make sure she has a bucket next to her bed and sleeps in the recovery position.

My parents once made me go to ikea with them as punishment. Sad

IdblowJonSnow · 15/05/2020 19:08

Good lass. She'll be fine OP!
This is a pleasant stroll down 90s drinks memory lane. Wink

She gets to clean up her own mess, she's old enough to learn by her own mistakes. I'm amazed she got to 17, most push the boundaries younger

Urgh, I used to drink Thunderbird as it was the best value. I did have to budget for a pack of peanuts to go with it though as I could only drink it that way. Still like a nut with a Wine now.

I'd forgotten about Metz. I remember one evening under the bridge by the park we didn't have a bottle opened and the handy old 'bash it on a wall' truck led to us sharing a bottle with a chipped rim and my mate cutting his lip.

That bridge was ace, had like a concrete shelf to sit on and eat our pizza, the pizza guy used to go to the shop to buy us 10 B&H each for £1.90 (because we were 15 and could somehow acquire Metz and Hooch but not fags?)

I was a bit older before we made 'lungs' out of coke bottles. My parents used to make me come home from Uni to check my little brothers' parties weren't too wild (as in, move the ornaments and make sure people smoked in the garage rather than the house).

It’s taken me till my 40s to be able to enjoy nice gin. The stuff I drank in the 90s would take the lining of your stomach.
My 18 next month joined me on the rum last weekend. It was fun, but the aftermath wasn’t pretty.

PurpleSky I've just nearly sicked on my mouth🤢

GreenTulips · 15/05/2020 20:01

My 17 year old is currently mixing cocktails in the kitchen

Lighten up

(Slopes off to find bucket)

My DD once got horribly drunk and was sick most of the night when she was 17 - I sat in the bathroom with her providing tissues and holding her hair back while quietly laughing to myself. She was me 20 years ago!

I really thought it was very funny and it didn't occur to me to be cross/disappointed/whatever. It's a right of passage I guess.

She's not been that drunk since. Lesson learnt!

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 15/05/2020 20:34

@BiscuitBiscuits IKEA with a teenage hangover- your parents were next level genius!

Biscuitbiscuits · 15/05/2020 20:58

They were sadists! Tbf the police had delivered me home that night as I hadn't pegged it fast enough from an underage rave so I got put in the back of a car and driven home. Good old home town police. I cringe now.

Adults - a trip to ikea is solid punishment. I didn't do it again. Until I left home and was too old to be taken back to my parents.

Oof I remember asking the take away to pick up fags! Shout out to Okabashi kebab in Canterbury circa 2002.

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 15/05/2020 23:36

We have had a laugh about it today, I told her about me at 17, and we kinda bonded! Agreed you do it once ( that your parents know about) snd move on!

NC4Now · 15/05/2020 23:41

Glad it was a bonding moment OP. We’ve all done it!!

Racheyg · 16/05/2020 14:44

@Biscuitbiscuits OMG I grew up near Canterbury.

I got taken to Canterbury hospital when I was 13 for drinking. I ended up with hyperthermia 😬
I didn't get a trip to ikea......I was grounded for that one 🙈

SuperMother · 24/06/2020 22:53

My 14 year old daughter has come home drunk before. This is okay in my opinion as she is bound to experiment in her youth. Its better you are aware and she can be safe rather than a moody hag. Just allow it!
