DS17 - and bedroom smelling of weed

NextChapterOne · 06/01/2020 23:13

He has just started sixth form.

Out quite a lot recently. Room smelling of weed, sometimes his clothes etc. He doesn't deny he's tried it at a party or whatever - but says its because mostly he's around people who smoke it or on occasion he is in the same room with them.

Anyway, sick of the horrible smell, it sometimes seeps out into corridor, though I have to say I have got a sensitive sense of smell.

Nothing I can do though is there? What do you think?

He's not smoking it at home, if thats not clear.

GreenTulips · 06/01/2020 23:18

I wouldn’t take his word for it.

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 06/01/2020 23:21

If it really stinks that much then he’s likely smoking it at home.

NextChapterOne · 06/01/2020 23:23

No hes definitely not smoking it at home. But he is bringing it on his clothes or whatever. There's not much I can do about that though is there? Unless any suggestions?

Other than washing his clothes as soon as he gets in the house, I don't think there's much you can do.

What I will say is, unless its on him every time he comes in the house, it won't be as strong of a smell as you're describing. Weed clings to clothes but it doesn't stay in the air for long. I too, think he's smoking in the house, or perhaps out of his window.

I had a friend who's DD used to smoke weed out of her window. Awful smell. I really feel for you OP

maddy68 · 06/01/2020 23:32

It's likely he is smoking it, the good news is it's relatively harmless. (compared to smoking or drinking )

maddy68 · 06/01/2020 23:33

Ps and if the shell us seeping into the corridor he's DEFINITELY smoking at home

AnyFucker · 06/01/2020 23:34

He is smoking it at home, or doing it regularly just before he comes home which amounts to the same thing.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/01/2020 23:35

It absolutely stinks.
Dd did it for a wee bit when she lived here.
I told her in the end that she had to empty everything into the washer as soon as she came in.

BertieBotts · 06/01/2020 23:37

He's probably storing the weed at home rather than smoking it necessarily. That is what causes a strong smell.

squeamishsquamish · 06/01/2020 23:41

My DS, who's 16, won't do weed because he knows that kids who smoke it before the age of 25 (when the brain is fully developed) run a higher risk of mental illness, especially depression. I'm glad he figured this out for himself, making it his choice rather than me having to "police" him. Maybe you could do a search on teens and drugs and send him a link?

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 06/01/2020 23:42

Smoking it will cause a short term smell, if it lingers I’ll bet he’s got a bag in his room

NextChapterOne · 06/01/2020 23:44

Its not really the same thing AF.

Anyway I've just said he isn't.

I've also said I have an incredibly sensitive sense of smell.

Jeez.

Anyway, I'll have to think of a response to the situation myself I guess.

NextChapterOne · 06/01/2020 23:45

Maybe storing it, a possibility, but I don't think I'd be able to find it easily.

squeam we have talked about this in the past. He knows the risks esp for teens. Its not to be messed with IMO, at least not on a regular basis.

Slightly confused as to how you could possibly think he isn't smoking it at home when his room and sometimes the corridor (I assume hall) are stinking of it.

Sorry but of course he is smoking

zoobincan · 06/01/2020 23:53

Nah it lingers in clothes. You can smell it on people really easily. But if it's sleeping under the door, he is smoking it.

squeamishsquamish · 07/01/2020 00:58

Well, if you're sure it's just in his clothing (the smell), it would have to be very potent. Where I live, it was recently legalised so people smoke it all over the place. It smells very strongly, a bit like coffee grinds or skunk. I've yet to smell it on anyone's clothing, though. Almost all kids smoke in private so although it's illegal for the under 19s (same for alcohol), the kids manage to get their little sweaty mitts on either, easily. Ask your DS to change his clothes as soon as he comes in - tell him the smell makes you ill.

YouOnlyLiveTwice · 07/01/2020 05:53

Go to Camden and buy him some Nag Champa...burning that should cover the weed smell...! 🤣

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/01/2020 05:55

It's either being stored or smoked at home. My neighbours smoke it a lot and even my house smells of it. It stinks.

Dommina · 07/01/2020 05:58

Put your foot down and tell him that he needs to wash all of the clothes he's wearing as soon as he comes in if he's been 'around people smoking it', and leave his jacket outside if possible. My sister did it for a while, is what my parents did.

BecauseReasons · 07/01/2020 06:03

How do you know he's not smoking it at home? You seem very sure he isn't.

Sux2buthen · 07/01/2020 06:08

I used to smoke it at home and say I wasn't. Unless there's a camera set up in their room you could be wrong.

Thecrown3 · 07/01/2020 06:30

I’m afraid weed nowadays does make people’s clothes stink.
I work with a high majority of people smoking it and they smell, even when not presently smoking it.There is a musty smell from them and you can smell them before you see them.
It’s possible he’s telling the truth but probably him and his friends are far more into it than letting on. It’s likely every day/night and all evenings, not just parties.

GoldfishRampage · 07/01/2020 14:43

If he is not smoking it then he won't mind taking a test will he 😅

Amazon have plenty of cheap tests for cannabis. Next day delivery too.

Lots of parents are cool with their kids smoking weed but I am not. It's a nasty insidious drug that maybe fine for most people but it seriously screws some people up. It also funds and causes crime.

Do you think there is a chance he might be dealing? It's not uncommon for dealers not to be users.
