Nice musical theatre songs for DD14?

Hi all, I'm not quite sure where to post this but I am looking for suggestions for some musical theatre songs for my DD to learn, she is 14 years old and a soprano. She's previously enjoyed singing Whistle Down the Wind and Memory, but she would like a new song to sing for a local music festival next month. Any suggestions?

Oh also I see the light from tangled. It's gorgeous and not as well known as frozen songs. My niece sang that at a concert a few years ago.

And so won't be much use for the festival. If, on the other hand, she wanted to learn a duet in addition (and could find a suitable boy to sing the male part) there's lots of good stuff out there.

No longer fashionable, but about 130 years ago Gilbert and Sullivan wrote some very catchy songs. "I have a song to sing, O!" is a love song which might just appeal to today's teens. There's a YouTube video available if you Google it.

My daughter is a little younger, but has done "In my own little corner", "When She Loved Me" (lovely song) and "Quiet" (from Matilda, but at least not "naughty" like every other child seems to be singing at the moment).

How about "Home" from beauty and the Beast.
The problem at this age is being able to pull off mature lyrics for situations you haven't experienced. It's not that the lyrics are bad, just unsuitable.
We have found this with dd and when you finally find one it's been done to death.
I've spent hours trawling youtube for something original and posted on several forums, you have my sympathy.
Have a look at some of the Broadway versions of Disney, sometimes there's a hidden added gem.

Agree with Newlife over the maturity issue.

Dd is 14 & trains in musical theatre.

She's currently learning On My Own.

Another favourite of hers (& it's not very well known) is Easy to Say from Zombie Prom

She sang Quiet for her school audition (it's technically difficult & needs stronger acting than Naughty) but she feels she's a bit old for that now.

I heard a child recently sing don't cry for me Argentina. Fabulous voice & musicality but zilch feeling & understanding of the situation (a woman whose gone through a lot in life towards the end of her days). Another suitcase would be a better choice (supposed to be sung by a teenage mistress)

Dd 14 is singing in a festival this Wednesday. She is singing flashlight from pitch perfect 2.

I think we needs lots of 16 going on 17 songs.
The worst one I heard an examiner speak about was young girls singing "I can't say no". I can't remember what grade it is but just because you can sing at that level doesn't mean you can or should attempt all on the syllabus.
There are lots of alternative titles, but like the OP is finding it can be hard with festival/comp pieces.

My dd has done Reflection from Mulan.
What about The earth and other Minor Things from Gigi. It used to be a grade 7 piece many moons ago so shows what level it is, iyswim.

Dd is same age. She has been doing 'My House' from Matilda in her singing lesson.

Wow, just looked at this and am really surprised at some of them that I had thought a teen couldn't manage. The main being Tuptim, I'm Shock
I could still only just look at say Bye bye Birdie or The Boyfriend for dd, but ideas I wouldn't have thought of.
I also would have had the age range for Johanna from 15 not 17, my perspective is a bit out Grin

New Life - in the 'old days' you had to be at least age 14 to do Grade 6 due to maturity of voice/understanding. I personally wish they'd kept those rules.

I'm just about comfortable with dd learning movie in my mind but she has done a lot of research into the Vietnam war & understands why young girls were often forced into pristitution. I don't think she'd ever sing it at a festival though.
