My DS is 16 and I've just ordered him a double bed... my parents have gone spare saying he doesn't need one and that they wouldn't have entertained the idea of getting me one when I was that age... 35 years ago

Could you let me know if your teen has a double bed as they've made me feel like I've lost the plot. ... although DS is chuffed to bits...

DS has had a double for years. He is 16 now and has a king size.

Makes no difference to me - I don't iron bedding - so no extra work involved I leave it to him mostly anyway

I don' tknow what impact it has on your parents?

I offered to get a double bed for DS (age 17), but he didn't want one. He has a mid height single bed with storage underneath which he wants to keep and asked me to get him a memory foam mattress for that, which he is happy with.

All our dch have single beds (never crossed my mind to get them doubles). DS1 has serious girlfriend who occasionally stays over. I wish I had got him a double bed much earlier before having some sleep in it with him was an issue....as getting a double bed now all seems rather pointed - and I don't want the girlfriend feeling obliged to sleep there!

DD is 15 and doesn't have a double but her room is the size of shoebox so she wouldn't have any room for anything else.

There's a my parent's old double bed that they had when we were kids in the guest room if DD really wants one but Dd knows where the bed is from so I don't think she'll fancy thatGrin Dd got a new single at the start of year and she prefers that as it's cosy.

Doubles are nice and spacious to lounge on.
No idea this was an issue!
Maybe they have linked having double beds to having sex.

My DS has a double at 12, for the same reason as other people - I can evict him from it when we have people to stay! He fully supports this as he loves having visitors.

I don't see what difference it makes? Space permitting, surely everyone would prefer a double over a single? I also don't understand going from cot to 'beginners bed' to single to double. Easiest to just to jump for cot to double as save the expense and hassle.

Find it a surprising and unfair how many seem to think it acceptable to kick their dc out of their own bedrooms to accommodate guests. They're YOUR guests, why should dc have people invading their private space to make way for them??

13 and 16 year old both have doubles.
I don't iron, good shake as sheets come out of drier

I have just this weekend ordered a double bed for my 12y DD. She's currently got bunk beds - I can't wit to no longer have to make the top bunk!

DD can't wait for her big bed :)

A few of her friends have double beds, some from being small.

No ironing of bedding here either - a good shake once they come out of the tumble of off the line. Life is definitely far too short to iron bedding!
