i posted in chat and am trying here as well.

dd is 13 and seems to have stopped growing at 5'4.ds is nearly 17 and is about 5'8.
i just assumed they would both be taller than me - i am 5'8.
i am taller than my mum and she was taller than hers.
did your teens overtake you and how old were they when it happened?
thanks Smile

How tall at 2years? The normal rule is that girls double their height at 2 years and boys double their height at 2 1/2 years. This worked exactly for daughter, son not yet fully grown.

GregorSamsa · 13/03/2011 16:44

My brother is shorter than my mother, so that can't be true. Admittedly my mother is about 6ft1" and my brother a touch under, so the difference is minimal, but he's definitely not taller than her. Much to his annoyance.

brimfull · 13/03/2011 16:47

dd is only 5'3 ,she's 19
she stopped growing about a yr after starting her period
I am 5'4 and dh 5'8

predictive charts said she should have reached 5'5" judgin by her height at 2yrs etc

My father was very slightly shorter than my mum. My brother is the same height as my father was, iyswim.

I am the same height as my dh. My ds is definitely hoping to outgrow either of us, and I reckon the odds are on his side.

GregorSamsa · 13/03/2011 22:27

Or did you mean, is my father shorter than his own mother? Confused Not sure about that, she died too long ago for me to remember.

I'm 1/2 an inch shorter than my mum. I'm 5'4, Dsis is 5'6 and my Dad only about 5'7.
DH is 6 foot, so DD1 sailed past me at age 12 (her feet are bigger too) seems still to be growing, just under a year after her periods started so I guess she'll end up about 5'7.
DD2 is a bit young to tell, but age 10 clothes end at 140cm and she was 143 at that age. One predictor reckons she'll get to 5'5.5 (if so she'll be happy to be taller than me, but seriously pissed off at being shorter than DD1 Smile)

Goodynuff · 06/05/2011 07:22

I am 5' 9, DH is 5' 10
DD, just turned 14, is 6 foot, and is still growing
DS, just turned 12, is 5' 7, and is growing like there is fertalizer in his oatmeal Grin

ImtheDD1 · 16/05/2011 00:38

Mum 4' 11 1/2
Dad 5' 5 1/2

I'm 5' 3 1/2 (18)
Sister 5' 1 (16)

we were never going to be giants!

Foyled · 16/05/2011 13:58

My DDs are now 17 and 19 and both taller than me, DD1 about 5 10 DD2 about 5 9, I was just under 5 9 at my tallest, but have shrunk a bit.

I think Maryz complicated theory is pretty accurate, although don't know about the skipping generation thing.

My DDs while never having been short were both slow starters, but have kept on growing. I think it is the ones who are about 5 3 5 4 at age 11 who don't grow much more, the ones about 5ft can potentially end up any size.

DD1 had a friend at primary school who was about the same height aged 9, by the time they left primary she was a good half a head taller, she continued to grow apace until about 15 when she stopped growing, DD in the meantime ever so slowly caught her up and just overtook her.

Interesting!

Oh and DH claims he grew up until he was 23 (6 4 in the end). I definitely grew while in the 6th form.

im small and stopped growing at 10 im 4ft10 but im presuming thats cos i started periods at 10 too? DH is 5ft 11 so im a bit worried/ disapointed my DD13 who started periods last year might now grow anymore shes now 5ft2 is this likely?
