dd is 13 and seems to have stopped growing at 5'4.ds is nearly 17 and is about 5'8.
i just assumed they would both be taller than me - i am 5'8.
i am taller than my mum and she was taller than hers.
did your teens overtake you and how old were they when it happened?
thanks Smile

I know you weren't critising maryz :) I just worried a bit that somebody might think that their child would definitely end up the height it says, which is obviously impossible to tell! Probably nobody would but I know from experience how easy it is to fall into believing these things and then worry about it.

inthesticks · 11/02/2011 16:05

DS1 was was 5'11" and patting me on the head when he was 12,he he is 15 now and 6'2".
I think at least his feet seem to have stopped growing at size 12.
DS2 is a later developer and still only 5'5".
I am 5'8" and DH is 6'1"

ivykaty44 · 11/02/2011 16:11

I thought 2 years old was to late to measure and double and it was 18 months exactly that you measure and double for the height of your dc fully grown.

MentalFloss · 11/02/2011 16:20

I am 5'9" and really didn't follow the rules r.e periods

I was 11 and 5'5" when I got my first period and only stopped growing aged 17

DD1 is the same she started her periods at 11 and was 5'5" at the time and now aged 14 she is 5'7" ish and deffo still growing

DS1 (17) is 6'3" and DS2 (11) is 5'10", DH is 6'2" and my dad is 6'2", my DH's dad is also 6'1".

I was about 5foot 6 at 11, but only grew 2 more inches.

DD is 11 and about 4foot 10. She hasn't started her periods yet, but her boobies are the same size as mine, or bigger (not difficult!) I hope she doesn't stop growing yet!

Milliways · 11/02/2011 19:23

I am 5'9 & DH 5'10.

DD was a tall 11 year old, but stopped at 5'5.

DS is 15 and is now growing like a weed.he was one of the smallest last year (Yr 10) bt is now catching up, around 5'7, and no signs of slowing down yet.

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 12/02/2011 08:03

I'm 5 ft 7 and DH is 5 ft 9

DD1 ...she's 19 and 5 ft 8 and only just stopped growing..slow but steady

DD2 is 16.. 5 ft 2 and stopped the day her periods started pretty much:( She hates being short and unfortunately has massive boobs too.

DS1 is 18 and 5 ft 9 much to his disappointment. He might grow a bit more but I doubt it.

DS2 is 13, 5 ft 11 and no where near finished yet Grin Hos orthopaedic doctor (he has some problems) predicts 6 ft 4... Shock

SO I have two tall ones and wo relatively short ones of each sex:)

jalopy · 12/02/2011 09:30

Me 5'6"
DH 5'10"
DS 6'2" at 16yrs

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2011 10:18

It's wierd how different heights can be in a family.

I thought sons grow taller than their mothers, but I don't know about daughters!

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2011 10:29

Just found this!

bruffin · 12/02/2011 10:38

I am 5'2 and DH is 6'2

DS 15 is 6ft

DD 13 is 5'5

They both overtook me at about age 12

I am the same height as my mum. One of my sisters is only 4'10 and both her dd's aim in life was to get to 5ft which they both did

AnyFucker · 12/02/2011 10:55

I am 5ft 10 and so is DH

My dd (15) is 5ft 4 and definitely has stopped growing. She was always very tall for her age until secondary school when she slowed down and hasn't grown at all since 13

she is like dh's side of the family body-wise (they are all shortarses, with tendency to gain weight except for dh)

ds is 10 and in the middle for height atm, he takes more after me though and I think he will shoot up at puberty. He is very skinny but with big hands and feet

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2011 11:04

AF that's interesting - my friend's DDhas always been really, really tall for her age, though her parents aren't tall. Maybe she will stop growing soon and jsut be average height.

Ponders · 12/02/2011 11:10

If those eventual height calculators were accurate, it would mean all the girls in a family would always be exactly the same height as each other, & all the boys would too.

Which is clearly not the case! Grin

Ponders · 12/02/2011 11:16

oh cancel that, I thought it was based on parent height only, not child's height too (didn't look at the links Blush)

however they don't allow for the wildly different growth rates loads of people have mentioned on here.

I have 2 DDs - one was always tiny & one was always tall. Predictors would have put their eventual heights on similar scales but they actually did end up more or less the same (although it took the tiny one a lot longer to get there).

bruffin · 12/02/2011 11:35

Intersting about the height calculator. I experimented with the weight and the higher the weight the shorter the outcome.

DS's outcome is 6'1 and DD's is 5'7. I do think DS is still growing a bit even though he was an early starter.

DD probably won't grow much more and I doubt she will reach 5'7.

mankyscotslass · 12/02/2011 11:41

DS1 is small for his age at 8, and the calculator reckons he will be about 5ft7.

However, DH was exactly the same build as him and between the ages of 12 & 14 shot up to just on the 6ft mark, so I think DS1 will do the same.

DD is taller than average (just) for her age, but I was too. I stopped growing at 12 and ad what DH calls vertically challenged at 5ft 2.

DS2 is tall, but the calculator reckons he will only get to 5ft10.

We will see!

kensworth · 12/02/2011 11:43

Ds1is 19 about 6'2 ds2 is 17 about 6th ds3 is 13 about 5'8 dd is 18 and only 5'2!!!even with I'd she has problems with people believing her age poor girl. Both myself and dh are 5'9 . Surprise to have petite curvy daughter as I was just a bean pole at the same age!!

wickedorwhat · 12/02/2011 14:08

not much we can do about our genes. i have looked into this as well and my theory is that girls take a lot of their fathers genes regarding height, looks etc. boys take after the mothers line. thats what it looks like to me. have dd 12 small and dainty like her paternal gm ds lanky and taller than me at 14 like his maternal gf. both different ends of the scale.

ivykaty44 · 12/02/2011 14:10

thank goodness its not true in my case wickedorwaht

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2011 15:31

WoW, that sounds right in my case, but not DH's - although he takes after his short mother, his youngest brother is much taller. But if you are right, then DD will be relatively short (both her grandmothers are 4foot 10 and 5foot anyway) and DS will be tall. Which is what I have thought all along.

Only another 8+ years to wait to find outSmile

mankyscotslass · 12/02/2011 15:44

Not true in my case either, I take after my mothers mother for height and build! Dh seems to take after his grandfather in terms of height.

mankyscotslass · 12/02/2011 15:45

on his fathers side!!!

ragged · 12/02/2011 15:59

I have a theory that girls don't grow much more height after their boobs appear (ie, they noticeably have them). Is that the same as saying they don't grow much after they start periods, too?
