GP3 - the saga continues :( "Super Furry Animals Thread

We believed GP3 was improving, his 'output' looked better, though he was a bit quiet.
Last night I brought them in early (it was getting cold) DD noticed he had soft pooh again.

Back to hay/pellets/water then for supper.

He looked a bit meh , sunken eyes, just sitting there (not a good piggie sign)

This morning.....he had the runs. Big Time. All over his belly. And his eyes were sunken and crusty/weepy.

Before we went to work and school we changed the bedding, bathed his eyes.
TBH, I fully expected him to be gone when we got back.I phoned the Guinea vets and booked him in.

DD and I drove him there, he was floppy, eyes tiny and shut, drippy bottom.
(I did prepare DD that we might be coming home sans piggie)

I asked DD what she wanted, he's her piggie. The vet suggested antibiotics and fluid. He had an infusion (injected, he didn't enjoy that) and antibiotics injection.

He's home now, in a Hospital Cage with a fleece and snugglepad.

He's not out of the woods yet. He could still go To The Bridge.

But he's got his girlies nearby (but separate) and I'm just going to get some Critical Care into him.

Poor little boy, and poor you and dd.

Keeping everything crossed that the anti bs and critical care do the trick.

and for you and dd, and gentle snuggles to your poorly boar.

He just looked so pathetic with his little nose on the table.
I was in half a mind to say "put him to sleep" but it's not really my decision , he's DD s pig (though obviously if there was no chance , I wouldn't prolong it)

DD wants to throw the big guns at him, so we'll give it our best shot.

I got his pro-fibre and liquid nutrients down him, he chewed the syringe a bit.

He's just a shadow of the bolshy boar he was

Oh 70, I'm so sad to hear this. Poor boy. I hope he perks up - he is quite a character. Thinking of you all. All 12 paws in the fernie household are firmly crossed.

From what I remember he's still quite young isn't he? It's got to be worth giving him a go with the meds, critical care etc. (And I am sure the vet would have been honest if there was no real hope).

I so hope that he rallies. The dietcoke pigs all have their paws crossed.

Noooo!!!

Does the vet think he is infectious? Can he be put with his girlies even with a messy bum to keep his spirits up?

He's gone................

Last night he sat on a nice thick fleece, all tucked up (not good but at least he was on four paws) I had a chat with him at 4am, he was making little growly noises.

At 6am, he was on his side. DD and I gave him antibiotics, his fibre/probiotic paste and his Recovery (like Critical Care). It was an effort to keep his mouth open and syringe it in.
He sat with DD ,flat out and was quiet, the odd squeal when she touched him (he had 4 injections yesterday)
He had a mild fit , some squeaking, then that was it.
DD put him with the girls to say goodbye.

Part of me thinks, maybe I should've said have him PTS, but DD really wanted to give him a chance, so we did.
I wouldn't have let him go on though, if he'd still been the same today, I think I would've called time.
He was only 18 months old

Little fuzzy boar who came from a Rescue to match up with GP1. He was sent there from a breeder who "Didn't like guinea-pigs"
He was GP1 shadow, sparring partner and eventually the Alpha Pig.
Then he lost GP1, his bollocks and got two ladies (GP4 and GP5).

He adored DD. But he gave her a rash on her face.
He knocked a few years off me by leaping out of the travel box.

DD was with him when he died. If he'd died in his cage, he'd have been with his sows. But it was fitting that this little boy was with his 'mum'

His life was too short, but he had a good one.

Off to The Rainbow Bridge now - your Step Dad and your Uncle GP2 are waiting for you x

So, so sorry to hear this 70. Hope your DD is okay. I think she made a good call, giving him a chance as he was quite young still, but sometimes it's just time. I'm sure his ladies will miss him trying to boss them about.

Scruffy, Smooth and Currentbun send you and your DD lots of furry hugs.

I sat with DD last night (very weepy as you can imagine) and said that I pretty much knew he would die either last night or today, so she was prepared.
GP2 was with GP1 ,DD and I when he went.
GP1 was in the Pighouse with GP3
GP3 with DD
So all of them were 'with' either us or their cagemate.

He was more peaceful being separate last night, (his C&C cage was facing them so they could chat) GP5 is a bit lairy,

GP5 sat on his rump when he was having his State Public Mourning. She has no shame

for the lairy pig. At least as you have the two girls you don't have the Lone Pig worry to contend with.

Sometimes these little pigs aren't with us for long. When I was in my teens we begged our parents to allow us to mate two of our pigs...the sow had three babies, two boys and a girl, all of which we kept (of course ).

We lost both of the little boys within a week of each other at around the 18m stage

Their sister lived to be 7 (and their mum was almost 8 when she died, like the Duracell bunny she was)

Sometimes there is no rhyme nor reason with these little ones. They wiggle their way into your heart and leave a bloody big hole when they go, though.

Your little GP3 had a lovely lovely life with you and DD (and his boar companions and of course the lairy ladies). It might not have been a long life but it was about as idyllic as a pig's life can be.

and to you and DD. It sounds as if she's handled the situation with great maturity.

So very sorry to hear about your dear young boy, I know how much he meant to you and what a lovely home he had with you all. These little creatures are so very fragile
Love to your daughter, and his girlie harem who will also be sad.
Yes, may he sleep well and have fields of heavenly grass to chomp through xxxxxx

Very sad news. GP3 was one of the big characters of the Super Furry Animals and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say his adventures will be sorely missed

A short life, lived to the max.

Off you pop to the Bridge GP3 and swap notes with Old Boy about living with lairy ladies when you get there

Oh yes, GP3 and Old Boy will be note swapping
GP1 and GP2 never got to live with laydeez.

Though maybe The Batchelor Life he had with GP1 was more straightforward (the girls are so untidy )

He certainly was a huge character & obviously had a lovely life with you & his furry family.

Oh I'm very sorry to hear that - you've been so helpful to so many novice GP owners on here (me included) and had to endure a lot of sadness yourself. But you obviously gave him the best possible life a pig could have. Thinking of you.

It doesn't get easier when a piggie dies, they seem to put their paws on The Bridge and you have the Devil's own job to prise them off it.

Dill wants to leave you all a photo of him, in true Bolshy Boar style, "photobombing" the girls.

We buried him today (we left him in the unheated Pighouse in a box, it's really cold here, the girls are still indoors until the Pighouse is ready)

He's mega wrapped with duck-tape and rubble sacks round the box. We put some sprigs of dill in the box (it's a Tradition, they have something )

Then DD and I deep cleaned the Pighouse to "Un Dill" it.
That's the part after they die, the final removal of all their scent.

Oh yes, that does sound sad. Hope you're all doing OK, and he sleeps peacefully - uninterrupted by nasty foxes.
