I'm desperate for another guinea pig. Effectively Naughty Girl has been on her own since Monday when Fatimus sadly went to the vets and we all know how that endedSad

I don't want a baby, because I don't want to get into the cycle of losing one and a cagemate being left behind with a long lonely life ahead of it. I looked up some rescues but then I saw the RSPCA had an adorable neutered boar and I couldn't resist sending them my details. The RSPCA have rung me and we had a chat. I know more about him. Usual story family got a guinea before finding out anything about how to keep and care for him and couldn't cope. RSPCA neutered him pretty much as soon as they got him.

RSPCA will contact me again to arrange a home visit to make sure I am a suitable guinea pig owner. My DH was like you are joking aren't you Shock Confused Yes really DH no joke, they really do check homes for guinea pigs Smile

I must tell the neighbours to expect to see an RSPCA van in the road. When my friend house sat to look after the piggies whilst we were on holiday last month, the lady oppostive was on the verge of calling the police. She thought we had squatters Shock Confused Grin

Hi all - Fernie - loved the photos of your guineas, and loved the idea of them discussing how to cut back in their igloo! - perhaps they can advise the Government on what we should all be cutting back on, lets face it they would probably do a better job!

Do hope all goes well with the adoption Fortified whichever combo you choose. Think this is why the RSPCA have got such a bad name, they are not responsive enough when they have good people offering good homes, they should be biting your hand off, so to speak. Really hope there is a deserving rescue who may be nearer to you. I am sure there is a furry little soul patiently waiting for you to find him/her/them etc.

Grin

I suggested to the boys that maybe they could pee outside of their haybox so I didn't need to change a load of soggy peed hay every day.

"Out there" they queried, munching down naice hay. "Go outside our haybox. You mean move ourselves? Are you MAD woman".

GP1 kindly left some old veg- a carrot stub and the cob from a sweetcorn (after it had been picked clean) to make soup.

And there were some mysterious little beans or something on the plate.....Confused

FernieB · 20/09/2013 06:55

fortifiedwithtea · 20/09/2013 10:30

Smooth will donate half a tomato, only slightly chewed which he's kindly warmed up by lying on it.

dotty2 · 20/09/2013 14:00

Mine will donate some green pepper. They only like red or yellow (which is a disappointment because so do we.)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2013 16:33

I buy the Tesco mini peppers 500g bags partly for my non green peppers eating pigs but my DD too.

(It's yellow/orange/red and the size of a large chilli)

spoiled or what

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2013 16:35

Love the idea of a warm tomato...
"Oooh, warmed by the sun"?

"Erm, sort of, warmed by a (guinea) son "

fortifiedwithtea · 20/09/2013 21:22

I've had a call back from a local rescue. We are taking Naughty Girl 'dating' on Sunday for a new friend. DD2 is hoping for 2 friends Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2013 22:18

Oooh , good luck on Sunday Grin

Any tiny, teeny clues?
Sows?
Sow + Boar?

Are you going to give NaughtyGirl a bath on Saturday in the honour of the occasion?

FernieB · 20/09/2013 23:00

Good luck Naughty - have fun!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/09/2013 15:44

Shamelessly checking in for guinea-date-updates...............

FernieB · 22/09/2013 16:28

So am I - it's very quiet. Maybe Naughty couldn't decide and brought an entire herd back with her Grin

guineapiglet · 22/09/2013 21:19

Another one awaiting news of Naughty's date.... Hope it was successful !Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/09/2013 23:09

Yes SO unfair, leading us with tempting nuggets about sow-dating then,.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Naughty has come home with 2 new friends Grin

I chose a calm natured big girl. Very pretty ginger face, white crest pink patch on left eye. Ginger gradually changes to dark brown along her back then stops abruptly to a big white bottom. At the moment she has no name. We are just calling her White Bum Confused Any suggestion welcome Smile

The other one is a bit skinny but she did have a litter before coming in rescue. She is a nosey little thing. DD1 spotted her and she came up to her for a sniff and that was it, DD1 had fallen in love and it was all Dad please our hutch is big enough for 3. Anyway her name was Buttons, apt because she is the colour of a milk chocolate button but DD1 has re-named her Coco.

Dating went very well. Naughty looked so happy and followed No name like glue. All went in our run when we got them home while I gave the hutch a good clean. All good so far. I thought No Name was Alpha Pig and told the human girls it was important Naughty went in the hutch first to let the others know they were joining her. Things start to go down hill. New guineas are frightened of strange house and hide in hutch bedroom Naughty joins them. I bring out veg and they get brave but Naughty gets very jealous over food and chases them off and rumbles. Final straw Naughty nips her new BFF, No Name squeals and runs back to bedroom. Naughty feels remorseful Sad and now won't go back into the bedroom.

Oh well, I'm sure they will sort themselves out Smile

I promise I will up load photos as soon as I take some.

Aww Bless

Good news and early days.
I need to go off to Bedfordshire now, 'tis late,

Remember tomorrow breakfast for three girlies. Smile

FernieB · 23/09/2013 06:26

They sound lovely. I hope they had a good night. Naughty will have to learn to share again. I'm sure the new girls will get braver soon and start telling Naughty off Grin

dotty2 · 23/09/2013 09:21

Good luck with the new household - will be interested to hear how the settling in goes.

guineapiglet · 23/09/2013 13:03

EnvyEnvyEnvy

They sound wonderful! - So glad she has now got some new friends, it will take time for them to settle, and we know Naughty can be a little, shall we say, possessive about food, so is bound to feel a bit threatened and sensitive about two new friends. Can't wait to see their photos. They are such lucky girls to have landed on their paws with you, I can feel a lovely story in the making, another one for the SFA collection.
Grin

guineapiglet · 23/09/2013 13:05

Ps loved the name Matilda which was a suggestion on another thread, whitebum says it all though really, maybe in another language it would sound much more 'exotic' !
'culoblanco' in spanish!

XX

fortifiedwithtea · 23/09/2013 13:11

New girls love tomatoes! Yay and they drink from a bottle. I hope they show Naughty Girl how to do that Smile

Surprisingly White Bum is a bit of a wuss. Coco ignores any nonsense and stands her ground. Veg was put in 3 piles this morning just to be on the safe side.

I'm going to put them out in the run now. Hopefully they will run off any tension Confused

OP posts:
FernieB · 23/09/2013 14:14

I'm sorry, Whitebum is just not flattering for any female, piggie or otherwise. I also like Matilda or what about Blanche as she's a bit white?

fortifiedwithtea · 23/09/2013 15:13

Hmm...I could see her as a Matilda. I think she needs an old traditional name.

I have vetoed Snuggles and Jasmine, suggestions by DD2.

I am toying with Sienna because of her colouring but is it too arty? Hmm I need to put a picture up really for you to see. But DD2 has set it on video and I don't know how to change it. It's her camera really and she won't be home until 5.00pm tonight Confused

OP posts:
FernieB · 23/09/2013 21:15

Matilda is more down to earth and practical - she will knuckle down and mow the lawn. Sienna will laze around preening herself and then not so much mow the lawn as make patterns in it Grin
