Guinea pig sunglasses?

DoesItWearingWellies · 26/05/2012 18:16

DD's Lone Pig has pink eyes. He finds the sun too bright and sits about with his eyes shut :(

Their run outside is shaded so the sun doesn't bother him, but the room he is in is very bright (SW facing so gets sun most of the day) as despite him having rather fetching wallpaper shading his enclosure, it's still quite bright.

Do they do guinea pig sunglasses? Confused

Move him to a less bright room?

DoesItWearingWellies · 26/05/2012 18:51

No can do or we would.

DD won't keep him up in her room as she says being that close to the others would be like torturing him, and the back room is the only one big enough for him as his cage is 4'x2'. DD did say we should put him in DD2's room as she's at uni but 1. DD2 wouldn't like it, and 2. we spend a lot of time in the back room (computer is in there) so he's always got a lot of company and someone to give him cuddles, whereas upstairs he'd be all alone :(

It will be darker in the back room soon as we will be rebuilding our awning/gazebo, but in the meantime the poor lil guy needs sunnies!

We had 2 pink eyed sows (Himalayan) when I was a child. They spent most of the time in shade. In the garden they liked to be in the sun if it wasn't too bright but wanted somewhere to run to.
Mind you, this was in Scotland so if the sun did ever shine they'd come in screaming "Mum,Mum, What's that round yellow thing in the sky? Is it an Alien Invasion Spaceship?"

Good luck keeping sunglasses on the GP. Our boars posed in their very fetching Father Christmas hats for 1.09 seconds. We were considering double sided tape to get the photo taken Grin

Lol
How about blinds for the room instead? Easier to keep on

What about blackout curtain material over his run indoors. Then he could have complete dark if he wanted?

dietcokeandwine · 26/05/2012 21:08

Like mercibucket I'd go for a blackout blind over the window/s of the room he's in if possible? We have blackout blinds and curtains on each of our bedroom windows, and in summer I always keep the blackout blinds pulled almost but not quite completely down (ie leaving 3/4 inches of clear window at the bottom) during the day. This allows enough light in to be comfy, without the glare of direct sunshine, and helps maintain room temperature too. Might be worth a try (and easier than keeping guinea specs on Grin)

BonkeyMollocks · 26/05/2012 22:19

Couldn't help it Grin

Grin BonkeyMollocks

I was thinking along the lines of those UV protective contact lenses.

I could HONESTLY say I'd have fewer bites trying to insert /remove contact lenses from the boars than pop those sunglasses on them Wink

That guinea-pig must be very in touch with it's inner Elton John heavily sedated.

DoesItWearingWellies · 26/05/2012 23:13

Bonkey That's what Lone Pig needs! Not sure he'd appreciate the pink, it would clash with his red handbag lilac fur :)

70 Grin @ Alien Invasion Spaceship

Hanging blackout curtains also not really an option as it's not a window but French doors. We have vertical blinds but they aren't that good at keeping out the sun - they were bought before Lone Pig had taken up residence so their ability to keep out light wasn't a priority.

DD has veto'd covering him with a blackout curtain (we have a pair knocking about and had suggested it to her earlier) as she says it'd restrict airflow and he'd overheat. She was fretting today about his wallpaper, moving it to make sure it didn't stop the airflow because he "looked uncomfortable" (he was sound asleep and didn't look any different to how he usually looks when he's asleep).

DD is not at all maternal when it comes to humans, but she is very very PFB about her boars Hmm Grin

What Lone Pig needs is a pair of these. Just guinea pig sized. Would they be called Poggles? Giggles? Confused

makes note to contact Dragon's Den to pitch guinea pig sunglasses

Grin @ poggles !
Although maybe it should be Piggles ??

BonkeyMollocks · 26/05/2012 23:33

if you use the name Piggles, I want a cut Wink

DoesItWearingWellies · 26/05/2012 23:56

I had thought of Piggles as that's what DD often calls her pigs, but decided Poggles sounded more like goggles, only for guinea pigs (with a silent "guinea", of course Grin).

Guinea-oggles ?? Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/05/2012 23:58

GP1 was in the wicker hedgehog house in the run today.
GP2 was restricting his exit and airflow (luckily house is woven so it has gaps) by lying in the door/tunnel like a little croissant.
But I just know he was passing gas (because he does- he lifts him bum slightly and out it seeps).

I'm sure there was retching and gagging going on in there.

DoesItWearingWellies · 27/05/2012 00:30

An extreme version of the Duvet Game?

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/05/2012 00:53

DD brought the pigs up for a cuddle this morning when I was in bed.
GP1 was hoping I had toast for him to 'share'

GP2 was looking snidely at my M&S duck down duvet.
Now I know why. He was hoping to slide his bum under to 'give me the benefit'.

GP2 is a gem of a GP but his emissions are legendery. Envy vom.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/05/2012 17:54

When you invent the guinea-pig sunglasses can someone invent an air freshener that fastens round the GPs hips and unobtrusively neutralises nasty niffs.
But not lavender smell.

GP2 is sitting under my neck as I type doing his evening pooh eat'n' fart routine.

He is DS GP, but DS doesn't cuddle him Sad.
GP2 you will be mine. Mine I tell you.

BonkeyMollocks · 27/05/2012 18:22

I sense some piggy napping being planned....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/05/2012 18:52

Grin I love the dragon outfit. (Don't think the hogs would go along with it, but you could try)

GP2 is looked after by me, cuddled by me, fed by DD and I (she has GP1), cage cleaned by me.
DS said he wanted GP2 because we were getting the 2 boys (otherwise they would have been for DD and I ). GP2 wouldn't have any change to his Life As He Knows It if he was mine (except I'd rename him Bart.) he doesn't answer to his name anyway Hmm so no worries.

I'll try not to kidnap your mad, water digging boys Bonkey . My boys don't hump each other -they are The Jonas Brothers of the GP world (ie pure and chaste) Grin
