It started thirteen years ago, i was addicted to cocaine. I had really bad binges and would do 4-5 days of use every week.
eight years ago, I decided enough was enough and completely changed my life overnight. I literally picked everything up and moved across the country in a day to get clean and it worked!
I had five glorious years of being clean and I was the happiest Ive ever been.
Unfortunately I met people who I knew I should of stayed away from, and slowly the addiction started up. i told myself if I only use once or twice a year its not addiction, but then i met more people and after two years of using once/twice a year and not even much it turned into a every weekend situation.
This weekend was horrific, it was spiked with something else like ketamine or speed which I know I cannot take as it makes my mental health dip so far down and I nearly killed myself this weekend over it. Managed 24 hours of sleep after taking prescribed drugs (codiene) to get me down enough to sleep and feel a bit better but I know now I cannot keep doing this. This relaspe is even worse the original addiction in terms of my mood.

I cannot move again, so instead I have changed my phone number & deleted and blocked everyone I know who can access it for me off my phone. It’s unlikely that I will bump into them when Im out & about so thats okay.
My trigger is drink even if I drink a tiny bit (im not a big drinker) I want it. So Ive poured away all the drink in the house down the sink. And I only ever touch it on a friday & saturday night.

I need ways to get a natural happy hormone hit so I dont go looking for it. Any ideas please? I have done it once and I know I can stay clean if I really put my mind to it. Thanks for listening.

@ughwhatnow44 well done on week 3. Keep putting the work in. The pink cloud does wear off. That’s when the real challenge does come in. You probably know all this anyway as you’ve done it before. You can absolutely do it again.

(never used chemical drugs, alcohol was my PDC. Nearly a decade sober).

Well done!!! Keep going. Avoid alcohol over Christmas (its really not that hard at all, if necessary tell friends/family you are on medication that you've been warned not to drink or that you have a bad flu/headache/tummy bug and will be staying home...if you feel the need to make up an excuse) its only a couple of days and it will be all over!!
They always say "play it out to the end" when you have a craving, so in your head imagine the whole situation and how awful you'll feel, the comedown the next day, the money wasted etc.
Keep busy, spend loads of time with DC and I do think get professional help, even though youre 3 wks clean professional help would be extra support to keep you extra determined.
You want to be the best parent for your DC and they do not need a parent who is doing drugs, or who is always in bad mood etc. You need to keep both them and yourself safe, healthy and happy and the way to do that is to keep going with your clean & sober weeks 😊😊 xx you are doing amazing, stay going!!!

I wanted some last night and did get into a bad mood as I was fighting it, not going to lie had stressful news this week but instead I had a hot bath and then went online and booked pantomime tickets for early this afternoon as I knew I would need a early night to take dc to see it!
And it worked, FOUR WEEKS CLEAN! 🎉🥳

I have told myself If I can make it through another month and through christmas/new years I can take nyself clothes shopping in the january sales & buy a entire new wardrobe of clothes (which i havent done in years) which is helping motivating me too. 🥲
Its just the cravings they send me into a bad mood for a hour or so and then wear off.

Well done ,I hope you can workout a strategy for Xmas/New year.
Would it be possible to stay away from parties that you know temptation would be put your way?

Hi op just wanted to say a massive well done you should be so proud of yourself! Ive been sober (recovering alcoholic) for 15 years it is so tough. Earlier this year I met up with some old friends i would drink with they did the whole you've been sober so long you could drink a glass and be okay and I almost almost did drink but something kicked in at back of my head and I knew id be lying to myself, I loved drinking so much that I would be back to square one. Just wanted to let you know you can do this, if I can do it you can too and stay away from bad influences because so hard to resist with them, especially if you've had a hard week etc xx

Just thought I would update I am 6 weeks clean & sober. Glad you didn’t give in to your friends . i think some people just don’t get it nor respect our choices! i have had to let a few people go lately who have expected me to get back on it.
