Quitting smoking tomorrow who's with me?

I've had enough. It stinks. My partner hates it. It's affecting my health. I've smoked for 36 years. I have patches and a vape at the ready from the NHS quit smoking program. Tomorrow I end this insane and disgusting habit. Does anyone fancy sharing mutual moral support?

Well done for getting to a fortnight @iosc2418

You feeling OK?

NoEscapingMe · 18/10/2024 17:19

Sorry I've been quiet. Had a mad busy time lately. You're all doing so well. I'm happy to say I'm now 30 days smoke free and feeling so much healthier

I'm on Zyban. 4 days off the cigs now, and the thought of smoking one makes me feel sick. There's no going back now. I occasionally miss them, but not much. I like smelling nice!

How are you guys doing? 129 days today, if anyone needs motivation ♥️

Mabelface · 02/02/2025 22:36

Still off them! Can't even vape. I'm enjoying being a non smoker.

I really need to stop vaping. Are you using patches?

chattyness · 03/02/2025 00:15

Well done everyone, I was a heavy smoker and gave up 19 years ago with patches.I'm weak willed so if I can do it anyone can.

I didn't know you can get patches from the NHS, how many do they give you if you don't mind me asking ? My DH still smokes but he's getting to the stage where he's fed up of it now & I think some support with nicotine patches might help persuade him to try & quit.

I quit vaping on January 27, so I’m on day 11 now.

I had switched from cigs to vape 10 years ago, thinking I’d just quit that no problem but as vapers know it’s not that simple! The thing was surgically attached to me, I vaped first thing in the morning, throughout the whole day because I WFH, and even in bed before I went to sleep. Vaped WAY more than I smoked.
Started to hate myself for doing it, hated the wheeze I could hear from myself, hated hiding my vaping from the kids, hated feeling pathetically addicted at my age.

I downloaded Allan Carr’s Easyway to Quit Vaping on audiobook. It blew apart the myths around nicotine addiction and really set me up for a proper go at quitting.
I did have cravings for a few days but just sat with them and acknowledged what they were - just passing feelings of the little nicotine monster dying. Been drinking lots of sparkling water and eating lots of fruit!

Zero nicotine, no patches or gum or anything and the nicotine is definitely out of my system now. Any ‘craving’ I feel is purely psychological.
I do have some lingering brain fog, hoping that goes away soon.

Just updating, still haven’t vaped or smoked since January 27 and the thought rarely crosses my mind. Just the very odd fleeting ‘oh I used to vape in this situation’. No cravings.
Im actually furious at myself for not doing this a long time ago. I wasted a lot of time sitting around vaping. Anyway, better late than never I suppose.

I'm still not smoking or vaping. I do have a nicorette inhilator thing, but to be honest, I chew it more than anything. I've gained a few lbs, but not a huge amount. I'm definitely enjoying not being a smoker. I hate the smell now.

This thread has just made me realise I am a year non smoker today. It feels so good, no longer have the horrible wheezy can't breath feeling after exercise, no more having to swing by a supermarket to pick up a pack whilst balking at the ever increasing prices. There were a few times when I wanted to cave in the evenings mostly which was boredom but I would say that passed after a month. Now I don't think about it at all but whenever I do see women smoking or walk past the smell, I feel a genuinely massive sense of relief that it no longer has a hold over me. Well done and keep going
