Quitting smoking tomorrow who's with me?

I've had enough. It stinks. My partner hates it. It's affecting my health. I've smoked for 36 years. I have patches and a vape at the ready from the NHS quit smoking program. Tomorrow I end this insane and disgusting habit. Does anyone fancy sharing mutual moral support?

I tried so many times to quit and I managed it in February so jumping on to wish you loads of support. This time I did it with disposable vapes. Tried before with a refillable vape but didn’t get along with it.
The freedom is fabulous! No shameful trips to the newsagents late at night. No picking up all the butts from the garden. No lighters, ash or matches. No stink. My chest feels lighter and my heart rate is undoubtedly slower. Good luck @NoEscapingMe! Biggest tip - distraction! Find a hobby or change your routine. Head out for a walk, join a book club whatever you fancy but mix things up! It’ll help!

Thank you. That's amazing advice. I've started. Patch on and vaping away. I do hope this is it. I hate the bloody things. I'm excited in a strange way. The freedom will be so good. I read that if I quit for 28 days then I've pretty much cracked it. I bet you feel fantastic. You've done amazing. It's such an evil addiction. Very grateful to you first r the encouragement xx

Read the only way to stop smoking by Allen Carr. It’s the only thing that worked for me. It’s annoying and repetitive but works. I still feel like he brainwashed me.

good luck!

Please don't swap one 'crutch' for another. You don't need vapes or patches any more than you needed cigarettes. I smoked for 50 years and gave up in one day once I learned that nicotine isn't actually addictive.

It's not brainwashing I don't think - rather now you know you truth and once you know you can't un know! it's a great feeling

I failed with willpower alone so many times I almost stopped trying to stop!
In fairness I hardly ever vape now, just every now and then. I feel like I can take it or leave it with the vape whereas before I had to have a cigarette! Of course I didn’t but you know what I mean. I think whatever works!

Yes. I've just ordered a copy. I've heard many good things over the years. Thank you

It's the NHS stop smoking program so they wean you off the NRT over a period of 12 weeks. There's no way I could cold turkey

How is it going OP?
I had a month and 5 days as of the 12th of September and I stupidly relapsed, so as of yesterday I started quitting again.
I'm cold turkey (but with the help of a book) and I can feel the withdrawal hitting hard but I won't allow it to take over. That month being free was AMAZING.
We can do it :)

iosc2418 · 19/09/2024 21:42

Oh and about Allen Carr's book. I read it, it worked. But I also read The Naked Mind: Nicotine and I actually enjoyed that book a lot, I found it far more interesting and easier to read.
The reason I relapsed is because I started to feel really good and I thought I can have just one, which both books advised against. Lesson learned

JammieMaggie · 20/09/2024 16:05

I'm currently on Day 1 of giving up vaping... do you mind if I join?

See I have the that problem but with vaping!

I smoked occasionally from my late teens to early twenties. But I could always take it or leave it. I was only really a social smoker/smoked with a drink at the pub... I could do weeks between cigarettes.

Vaping on the other hand I've found wildly addictive and am really struggling to stop. I've quit once already and started again.

I wish I could take it or leave it!

I'm still at it. Really couldn't do cold turkey so well done you. I smelt people smoking in the street yesterday. I was nearly sick. Can't believe I used to smell like that. Really brought it home. I'm determined to quit. Also, I'm not getting on well with the patches so I've dropped those. Just doing the NHS vape

Thank you - I did start a thread specifically for quitting vaping but not had any responses. 😆

Glad to hear you are doing well OP - your resolve sounds strong which is fantastic. Keep it up!

Four days in - I'm having a truly shitter than shit week and TBH it's hard to tell what's nicotine withdrawal and what's anxiety/brain overload. But I'm not caving! 💪

Really sorry to hear that. My weeks been piss poor too tbh. I've been a dick to my partner and in turn hurt myself by being so unreasonable to him. We've now just discovered the freezer off. Small world problems but it was packed with nice thick cod, lamb steak, beef etc. I'm still not having a fag.

Well done for not reaching for a cigarette in a stressful situation.
I've been stopped 18 years and was a 40 a day..zyban tablets helped me quit.

JammieMaggie · 27/09/2024 11:02

Amazing @NoEscapingMe 💪
You've got this!

I'm a week in today and feeling good. Although I have had an awful headache for the last 48hrs which I'm not sure is related...

I had a few days of being incredibly irritable... that seems to have eased off a bit now thank god.

DH has a habit of leaving his bloody vape where I can find/see it. 🙄

Onwards...

iosc2418 · 09/10/2024 20:39

14 days today!!! How are you all? One day at a time..
