i think you have to have small feet to wear shoes and skinny jeans otherwise you end up loooking like a penguin

babyonboard · 18/08/2005 11:41

ballet shoes look great with skinny jeans..
wish i could wear them but i would look truly ridiculous right now with my huge baby bump on top of skinny legs !

my legs look like tree-trunks in boot cuts or even straight legged jeans. welcome the return of skinny jeans with open legs, no sorry, arms!!

colditz · 28/08/2005 20:35

I don't wear skinny jeans because i have a fat arse.

sansouci · 28/08/2005 20:37

i also have a generous bottom but pretty good legs. what difference does the cut of the leg make to a bottom, anyway? a large one is still a large one.

the absolute worst look has got to be the low-waist with thong visible above. especially over a fat bottom. v. scary.

Demented · 28/08/2005 20:49

No, no, noooooooo!!!

I'm not wearing skinny jeans!!! Before we know it we'll be wearing flourescent terry towling socks with stilletos and the skinny jeans will come in snow wash to wear with big puffy snow wash denim jacket, noooooooo!

marthamoo · 28/08/2005 20:55

Last time I wore skinny jeans I had a turquoise and black batwing sweater to go with them and wore them with small heeled white 'teabag' stilletos. Also had my hair in a Flock of Seagulls stylee quiff, and blue mascara.

Oh yes, I can definitely see me going down that road again - such a stylish era, the 80s.

Demented · 28/08/2005 21:01

Oh nice, batwing sweater! I tried to knit one of those!

sansouci · 28/08/2005 21:10

yes, the '80s were pretty gruesome sometimes. but so were the '70s (if any of you were around back then) & i'm sick to death of seeing the same old stuff being regurgitated. how about something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT?

wysiwyg · 28/08/2005 22:04

PMSL Demented at the fluorescent socks. I used to wear one green and one pink one. (Why?)
IMO skinny jeans are just awful and v unflattering - (particularly if you are pear shaped liked me and a big pear at that).
Esp strech denim, with white stilettos.... (I am cringing...)

Demented · 28/08/2005 22:10

Uggg @ stretch denim, noooo!

SueW · 29/08/2005 08:23

Nickyfen you could look at tummy tuck jeans if you really need something to tuck your tum into. They don't do them in skinny style yet tho, afaik.

SueW · 29/08/2005 08:23

Also not shippable to UK from that site.

Nickyfen · 30/08/2005 10:18

i got some miss sixty ones from ebay. I love them, but I think if you are not stick thin, then they look better balanced out with boots, I don't think I would get away with the ballet pump thing - i would look like an upside down triangle

northerner · 30/08/2005 10:26

Cod - skinny jeans look great with ballet pumps I think. I've seen Sienna Miller wearing apair of espardrilles with them and she ties the string over the jeans.

I wear mine with a hed scarf

SueW · 01/09/2005 06:13

Trinny and Susannah on Oprah today say NO-ONE should wear skinny jeans. AT ALL. V definite. Said 'high-faluting European designers try to get us to do it cos they think they have to come up with something different'.

So that's that then

expatkat · 01/09/2005 07:20

My fashion-y friends were wearing them with knee high boots--but they have to be quite groovy boots, not any boots will do. And I've worn them this summer with sort of delicate ballet-ish mules. I'm still not sure about skinny jeans though. . .can only slightly get away with them b/c I am emaciated at moment. As for higher waisted jeans. . .I realized to my peril the other day when trying on prs that that your bum vanishes. . .low waisted are much more accentuating of the bum (in a good way).

frannyf · 01/09/2005 08:08

Do they have to be extra long? The ones I've seen seem to be sort of wrinkly at the bottom. I ask because I have got skinny trousers left over from last time they were fashionable and I'm wondering if I can now wear them again...

expatkat · 01/09/2005 08:20

IMO long is better, franny. The ones that sort of stop just above the ankle, or around the ankle might look a little passebut that's just my opinion. But short skinny-ish trousers eg knickerbocker type thingies are also coming back. . .apparently (bleurgh!)so I guess either extreme is fine. . .But recycling your old jeans could be cool/retro, too. (I am NOT an expert.)
