Can't cope with blazing south london sun. Need some kind of hat

Just this year I seem not to be able to cope with the sun, presumably on my bonce. So I'm walking around town (alright to school) in cropped jeans and flip flops or birkies and a wrap dress or summat. What, pray, can I stuff atop my head that might make me feel both good and better?

PLEASE NOT one of those mum hats

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 20:58

mum hat. makes wearer look like chess club member

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 20:59

with a wrap dress NO Hat will look right.
they are for casual wear.

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:00

these are supposed to be in

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:00

this owuld look nice with jeans etc

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:01

or htis.. doors to manual

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:02

Oh shit no. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. 'broderie beanie' makes me feel a bit chuggy up. To be fair, jeans a lot more prevalent. Beanie shape not terrible idea though. Is there any hat/skirt combo that would look alright.

The purported chess one would i feel be more suited to liver spotted OAP playing bowls in pale blue slacks.

The raffia sun visor is surely shome joke?

Only effective thing is learge wide brimmer number.

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:04

the oh shit is levelled at the beanie. I love the trilby!

what's wrong with a big floppy sunhat??

no poiint being utterly uncomfortable just because some other people don't thjink hats go with dresses

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:06

No to wide brims. That could so easily slip over into 'bowl player on holiday'. I'm not very good at sophisticated so can't try and go stepford route turban whatnot.

NO to any fabric hat

they always remind me of drippy mums at playgroup

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:08

but forlorn, the trilby is linen. Are you withdrawing it?

OP posts:
FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:08

no i mean floraly chintzy
i still keep that one IN IN IN

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:11

Good because I'm going to try it ON ON ON.

I work at home and felt chipper until time to collect from after school club. Got about 5 minutes up the road and felt faint with the heat. Went home to get car on pretext of thinking I might have left a window open.

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:11

i feel a tinge of knowingness

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:12

moondog · 22/06/2010 21:13

If you are saerious about keeping sun off, you need a hat from people who understasnd serious sun
i got one for my dh but he won't wear it in the hot places he worsk in as scared of being mistaken for an American and being picked off my Islamic militant.

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:14

yes
my h has one of those for rugby specatating
i suit hats. rarely wear em.

FolornHope · 22/06/2010 21:14

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:17

forlorn, would that info a) give you a clue to knowing me, or b) is sudden onset sun-wimpery a perimen symptom?

you are a name changer though?

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:19

Hmmm. Last one looks quite warm. Maybe the acrylic hair is removable? I could velcro it back on in more clement weather.

DukesOfTripHazard · 22/06/2010 21:21

Do they have it a less lividly boiling looking tartan?
