Can anyone point me in the direction of some attractive flat sandals that are COMFORTABLE?

The only thing I can bear to wear is my silver Birkenstocks which are super-comfy but do look a bit big and clumpy with certain outfits.

Where can I find something lovely and a bit more 'now' that I will be able to tolerate wearing? I have a nice pair of white leather flipflops with a butterfly on the front but the sole is so thin and hard, they really hurt after a while.

Help!

I have just bought these. Not cheap, but incredibly comfortable.

miche8 · 22/06/2010 12:41

i love birkies, fitflops are even more comfortable but are clumpy, so no good for dresses/skirts.....i'm always very casual so dont have that problem, tempted to get a sparkly pair of fitflops.

Have you tried clarks? they had some gladiator styles in, havent seen them in real life but all their shoes are very comfy and usually theres something fairly 'now'.

muddleduck · 22/06/2010 12:44

they are not flat, but the fly yakin wedges are incredibly comfortable. yakin wedges

keynes · 22/06/2010 13:03

kit shoes are comfy very soft quite wide with a bit of tread

get them in independents

lucykate · 22/06/2010 13:09

I love my melissa sandals www.theshoegallery.co.uk/acatalog/Melissa_Couture.html, the secret love gold pair.
Not to everyone's taste but super comfy and (I think) look fab!

Thanks so much everyone, that's so helpful. Surprisingly, the Clarks site has some I really like - thanks miche8!

Keynes - do those Kit shoes come up big or small? I'm usually a 6.5, but they don't do half sizes.

franch · 22/06/2010 13:32

I like those, thecatate. (Also like the crystal-studded ones but a bit pricey!) Did you buy yours online?

They are prettier than the photos

Picklepants · 22/06/2010 13:34

I've been living in these recently, and I love them:

Sorry, not quite got the hang of linking yet

thecatatemygymsuit · 22/06/2010 13:36

Hi Franch, I'm wearing mine now in fact!
I got them in an independent shop near me in south London , but am sure they are widely available on line. Last summer, I think i paid around £30?
Love those crystal ones too but rather expensive for jazzed-up flip flops, yes!

franch · 22/06/2010 13:38

And these. (You can only order 3 different styles online, what's that about??)

How funny! Do you know Lordship Lane (east Dulwich)? It's a shop called Sugar on Goose Green. Not sure if they still have them in but they do stock melissas, I think...

franch · 22/06/2010 13:45

Yay! My kids go to school in Dulwich. Just a short detour ...

Thanks thecat

Small world Franch ...

SloanyPony · 22/06/2010 15:54

I'm still in search of flat sandals that are comfy and not too lesbo to look at.

franch · 23/06/2010 11:00

Sloany have you looked at any of my Clarks links above? (No, I wouldn't have considered Clarks either)

Loads of flat pretty ones here - can't vouch for comfort but I always go for the appearance and wear plasters until my -feet-- are they're broken in .

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/06/2010 13:38

I have the pewter-coloured sparkly FitFlops. I think they are pretty, and soooo comfortable. I have not had backache since I strted wearing them, and i have the arse of Cindy Crawford
