Dress for the races - anyone want to help?

DSM · 06/06/2010 19:33

I'm off to the races in a couple of weeks.. Need a new dress that will also be suitable fir a couple of weddings later in the year (too poor to buy more than one outfit). Literally looked at a million dressed but can't find one that I like.

I am 28, about 5'5 and a 12. Big stomach but great norks and legs. Must wear bra.

I'd really like something short, sleeveless and preferably high cut, as I always have the norkaroos on show and I'd like to cover them up for a change! Though, I normally wear strapless/bandeau and this would be acceptable.

Short is important, mid thigh max. Not black.

Thanks for any ideas!

How about this?

DSM · 06/06/2010 19:52

That's very nice. Interestingly, I quite fancy yellow!

However, it's too floaty round the stomach, I will look pregnant. Need something of a more structured fabric so as not to enhance the tummy. I look quite slim other than the 'pregnant belly' look I seem to sport. It will squash down with tightness though! (FYI - not body-con style, no no no).

Too spangly?

tethersend · 06/06/2010 19:57

Or here?

If budget is no option

Ewe · 06/06/2010 20:07

This is cute

This could be flattering?

Big bow to cover tummy

DSM · 06/06/2010 20:07

French connection one is gorgeous, but again too stomach clingy (fine when standing, not so when sitting..)

DVF one is wonderful but sadly money is an object - whilst I am willing to splurge to an extent, £500 is not an extent I can manage!

That blue Awear one ewe - I actually tried that one on! Its lovely, but again, makes my stomach look fat.

Need to have a defined waistband usually..

The Mango one is okay, but brown is a bit boring, and its too long.

Can you see why I am having a problem?

Really appreciating this help, BTW

Might be a little too long?

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/06/2010 20:17

floral

this is gorgeous on but I don't have the legs for it

more flowers

nice colour

DSM · 06/06/2010 20:19

Ewe - thats really nice but yes, too long.

If it's not mega short, then I kind of look like a little girl dressed in mummys clothes. I look really young for 28.

Thankfully, I have cracking legs, and a lovely DP who has been faithfully rubbing that gradual fake tan moisturiser stuff on them every few days for the last week (and forthcoming two!)

That floral French Connection one is beautiful. Will be ordering that to try on. Thank you! Great find.

The other FC one I think looks a bit cheap? White one too stomachy again.. and the blue one is nice but not sure why they've chosen to dress a male mannequin in it. Or its not flattering.

one more though not sure of neckline ?

DSM · 06/06/2010 20:43

That Karen Millen one is stunning. If it were high cut, or strapless, I would buy that right now.

I hate halterneck.. and I wouldn't be able to wear a bra.

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/06/2010 21:06

similar ?

yellow but would need strapless bra

DSM · 06/06/2010 22:00

Can't buy off eBay...

I'm sorry for being so damn awkward.

Like the pink one, though since you can see the skinny minnie models tummy I imagine it will be hell on mine!

Love that French connection one, but one of my friends has it in cream and is wearing it to the races!

Other two are nice, but again not got the all important waistband bit.

I can't wear anything that's straight up and down, needs to have a defined waistband to flatter the tum.

Some nice ones there... You're very good at this!

Nothing that grabs me though.

Hate being so awkward.

That warehouse one is lovely, but (oh god.. feel free to slap me) I don't like the sleeves. Would LOVE it if it were sleeveless.

The All Saints ones are too dark and the two from JL will accentuate my stomach.. again.

I really do appreciate this though, even though it seems I am dismissing everything!
