Speaking of shorts -- any other ladies out there refuse to wear them?

I HATE shorts on women, with a passion. Think they always look shabby and display one's thunder thighs and lardy arse in a way a skirt of the same length never does.

They're OK for playing sport in/over bikini bottoms at the beach, but otherwise. . .

Skirts, dresses and trousers only for me. Anyone else?

Unless you are very young with incredibly gorgeous legs/playing sport in/at the beach shorts should never, ever be worn in public.

I have legs of the purest white (and some purple ) - so, no. No shorts here. In fact, in the sun I tend to wear long trousers.

I agree. Totally. Unless slim and trim.

(Glad nobody can see me in my shorts! Don't wear in public but did go to DIY store in them today. That doesn't count!)

Sorry beanlet but I wear shorts a lot in the summer - mainly because they are cool and comfortable. Don't think they look shabby although I admit that a couple of my "smaller" pairs possibly don't show my bum at it's very best

I can wear jeans and trousers but somehow shorts seem to distort my bum and thighs so they double in size

I wear shorts in the summer AND winter. IN summer, denim shorts etc. In winter, I have a pair of dark grey flannel ones from Zara that I wear with opaque tights.

I don't wear shorts as I don't have shapely legs. Some women look good in them and some really need to think again. Like anything really.

Oh for goodness sakes - of course women can wear shorts.

I'm assuming you're not referring to cut-offs that show half your bum.

I have reasonably good legs - and they look fine in shorts. And if I bend over to pick up baby at least I'm not flashing my knickers at you as I would be in a denim mini (as I discovered last week )

I spend nearly the whole summer in shorts, denim or black. Very practical and I'm happy to show my legs.

Clearly if you have fat legs then they don't look great.

I have long, muscular athletic legs and I think they are better suited to shorts than a delicate looking skirt.

Meant to add, I work blardy hard on my legs (pilates or yoga or swimming every day) so I will damm well get 'em out!

I wear shorts but only strangely, at the weekend. I'd never do a school run in my shorts.

I just don't get these edicts that seem to abound at the moment - you know - you can't wear maxis/shorts/skinny jeans or whatever.

It so depends on the individual surely?

Obviously I would look ridiculous in shorts (being short and fat) however dd looks good in them as she's 12 and a size 8.

You can wear them if you're tall.

Saying that I did wear denim hotpants when a size 10 and thought I looked great (20 years ago)

I would love to wear shorts, but I have been blessed with the most dreadful legs. Even when I'm slim I look dreadful. I think woman with athletic or slender legs can look fab in shorts and I am v envious!

You do not have to be tall to wear shorts or many other things.

I am 5ft and look fine in them - its a question of proportions surely?

Seem to recall Kylie Minogue looked pretty good in her gold shorts

Many larger ladies also look good in shorts if legs are toned and shorts fit well.
