I want purple highlights

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:04

not auburn, proper witchy inky purple

can I do it myself? How?

you could bleach it then dye with directions
they have fab vivid colours and they fade out slowly when washed, so you can change your colour when you like
the bleached bits will stay in though

how long is your hair and what colour?

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:08

greeny here kooky

do you think it will suit me?

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:11

oh superb name! LOL it's like a masked ball in here some nights

tbh i think inky witchy purple on anyone over 25 is always at risk of looking mid life crisis me i am so wacky

but what the hell, i have currently got bright copper bits in mine

would you bleach it first then? there isn't really another way to get the deep vivid shades i don't think
would you maybe have a stripe? or little fine highlights? what were you thinking of

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/05/2010 22:13

I will keep an eye on this as I want to do it too - have gone as far as to buy the dye (La Riche Directions, about a fiver on ebay).
Not brave enough to use it yet.

Thing is, you have to bleach your hair in the streaks first otherwise the purple dye won't show up, and I fear I am too inept to apply bleach to only part of my hair...

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:13

this is a better site to buy from, but the other site shows the colours better

i used to use them, they do fade quickly but that is part of the beauty as you can just do something else with it
if you want permanent i would try a hairdresser rather than doing it yourself
it could go quite wrong couldn't it
which would be annoying

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:14

was thinking of four or so fairly narrow strips, nothing drastic

and I AM having a midlife crisis

I used to have weirdy coloured bits and rainbow woven bits and the odd little bead here and there, my hair is so fucking boring these days

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:15

to do bleach highlights at home i think you need a highlighting cap maybe?
where you pull the bits through

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:16

oh have it then
i want mine flame red but it would look shit i think
wrinkly old pasty skin and gorgeous lily cole hair
hmm nice

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:18

wrinkly and pasty my arse

I would do it, I think it would look great on you

but then I am a bit odd about things like that

one of my friends here has a bit at the front which is green sometimes, blue or pink sometimes

she is forty-something and I still think it looks fab

OP posts:
TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:18

and lily cole looks like the love child of ET and a satellite dish

You could ask your local hairdresser how much they would charge to 'lift' a couple of chunks.
They'd use foil instead of a cap.

And Directions rock! I've been using them for over 15 years and have done most of the colours under the rainbow!!

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:26

no no i thought the same, that funny 8 year old's moon face, but then we were standing next to her in the queue at the cloud exhibition, do you remember? as she was fabulously beautiful and she smiled at me and i have had a crush on her ever since

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:26

I do remember, but I wasn;t quite as starstruck as you

OP posts:
WilfShelf · 22/05/2010 22:28

NO YOU DON'T...

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:28

yes well that's because she didn't SMILE at YOU

i thought she was the weirdest thing alove from pictures
she was lovely
all that hair, and eyes, and legs, and ooooooh

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:28

alive

ShinyAndNew · 22/05/2010 22:28

My sister is very purple at the moment. She did herself so she won't have used bleach. Her fave hair dye is usually Ferria. Have you tried that?

Dunno how you would get it to 'highlights' though and not a full head. Unless you bought a cap or knew some one who could do foils.

Bleach and then colour always washes out v v quickly.

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:28

wilf do you think purple is a little bit i am a wacky librarian? i think it might be

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:29

her ears are weirdly false-looking too, like little white mushrooms

not my type, I have a crush on Liv Tyler

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:29

how can you get a deep colour without bleach? i am not convinced

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:30

she has delightful little ears
just right for whispering in

TheFatOwlOfTheRemove · 22/05/2010 22:30

Ferria and Directions, ok [writes down]

I am going to do this, I think

i will be a laughing stock at work, but the children will love it

OP posts:
ShinyAndNew · 22/05/2010 22:31

CoupleofKooks, you just leave the dye on for at least three times the length of time it advises you to. Used to do it all the time myself with bright red colours.

CoupleofKooks · 22/05/2010 22:33

ok i'll remember that shinyandnew
does it work on all hair colours?

ShinyAndNew · 22/05/2010 22:34

I have very dark brown hair, naturally. I think
