I bought this book in a fit of idle curiosity while in England at the weekend.

It is not really a cook book, is it? It's a lifestyle guide: how to become Sophie Dahl.

Is it?
I may purchase it then, she is gorgeous

Though irritating, but I'd live with that.

MrsMotMot · 18/05/2010 13:10

Bonsoir you are lucky you missed the tv series. It was pretty awful- lots of style over substance. she really can't cook and was very clumsy with chopping, etc. According to a MN in the know, she actually had to have cooking lessons before she did her cooking show! I do think she is beautiful but a chef... no.

fishie · 18/05/2010 13:12

oh dear bonsoir. never mind, perhaps you could give it to someone who doesn't read english?

TiggyR · 18/05/2010 13:15

I agree she was a bit rubbish, ans some of the recipes on the show looked a bit suspect, but it was lifestyle porn of the highest order and I gazed soppily at every second of it. Not to mention gazing at her exquisite face - she's divine, and seems like a really sweet girl.

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:15

MrsMotMot - you are confirming my opinion of the book!

I do think she is very gorgeous, in that kittenish English private school privileged way...

Oh dear, now I think I need to buy a DVD of the series

It was an awful series. Sophie Dahl is far more beautiful, far richer and with far more leisure time than I will ever be or have. The series seemed simply to be restating that repeatedly.

Really couldn't see the point. I don't care what her favourite salad / ice cream / fish is. It's not going to make me righer or more beautiful and I have my own favourites.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2010 13:27

Is she really that beautiful? I've never really thought she was that beautiful

I still think Nigella is my personal life style porno diva!

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:28

What was awful about it? I can understand how it might make one feel incredibly slightly , but was it bad television? It sounds very entertaining, if you take it with a pinch of salt and with the right degree of perspective.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2010 13:29

I'd love a Kate Moss to have her own show, where she (already tipsy) shows you how to fix a vodka martini...

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:29

That's because you are dark, Franca. We blondes empathise with Sophie

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:30

What, how to become Kate Moss? I think that might be more improbable difficult than trying to become Sophie Dahl, somehow...

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2010 13:33

... mind you for all we know SD could indulge in the same hobbies...

CaptainNancy · 18/05/2010 13:34

Bonsoir- the episodes are on iplayer, but I do not know if you can access that where you are.

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:35

I thought Sophie Dahl had gone from overweight-nude-model-stardom to slim-clean living-stardom?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2010 13:35

No, we can't access iplayer from europe, I think (damn)

Francagoestohollywood · 18/05/2010 13:37

Maybe.

I wonder if C4 has already thought about a cookery prog with KM. The more I think of it, the more I think it'd be a success.

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 13:42

I don't know anything at all about mixing illegal substances, could be useful

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 14:07

I'm flicking through the pages... it's a sort of romanticised autobiography interspersed with the food she ate (and the recipes thereof)... I could do this and become a millionaire! Not sure I and my lifestyle are quite as telegenic

OP posts:
LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 14:18

Exactly Bonsoir! That's why it was awful.

But you can check it out in iplayer and come to your own conclusions.

noddyholder · 18/05/2010 14:20

She is so pretty but the show is nonsense and by the look of her she doesn't eat any of the food so pointless. It has been dropped already viewing figures atrocious

Bonsoir · 18/05/2010 14:22

Sadly I cannot watch anything as I am not in the UK!

I bought the book thinking it might inspire me for a girly lunch party I am giving next Tuesday.

OP posts:
TheStraitsofWTF · 18/05/2010 14:25

Bonsoir - she's no cook. She took A Lot of time explaining how to melt chocolate. I couldn't bear to watch after a while.

lucykate · 18/05/2010 14:28

did anyone else notice during the series, lots of comments from her about being vegetarian, and then in a later episode, she ate the chicken soup?

LaTrucha · 18/05/2010 14:32

Bonsoir - it'll probably do that for you.
