Are Fascinators really naff ??

I have finally found a dress for my best friend's wedding which doesn't make me look like the flabby post natal blob that I actually am but it is completely black. I don't have a major problem with wearing black but would like to brighten it up with accessories.

I was thinking possibly hot pink accessories and have seen a lovely pink and black fascinator. Are they a total no no ??

Hats suck. Fascinators rock.

supergreenuk · 28/04/2010 19:51

Go for it. They are great at weddings.

The very reason you feel the need to ask suggests a no.

Looking at our ahmm ten year old wedding photos it's the mens ties that date it, I suspect that fascinators belong to a subsect of fashion a few years ago( loads at sil wedding 3 years ago).

Aim for classic, I opt for large sunglasses and look fab, also have a totally over the top Droopy & Brown hat that gets wheeled out if a hat is what is required.

I too piss on your silly english fascinators.

bobdog · 28/04/2010 20:11

Wonderful hat everything is everything, suddenly feel the need for a cocktail.

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/04/2010 20:29

Hmmmmm - its looking like a no then. The Ascot pic did it for me

I am planning on getting shoes, bag, jewellery etc to lift the black dress (and have checked with the bride). I (and she) isn't sure its a formal enough wedding for a hat. Neither of the mothers are wearing one

Right - may well start a thread for accessories

Thank you all

Total no. The day if the fascinator is over, long live the hat!

hotCheeseBURNS · 28/04/2010 21:12

Where do these wonderful hats come from then? I'm going to a wedding in the summer so I've been looking out for one and all I've seen is old lady hats. I am in my twenties and want something fashionable!

mmrsceptic · 28/04/2010 21:12

common as muck sorr

hotCheeseBURNS · 28/04/2010 21:15

Oh, and tillyscoutsmum, personally I find the idea of black with hot pink upsetting and much more naff than fascinators! Stick to cream or ivory with your black dress!

hotcheeseBURNS I've worn black and white for the last few weddings I've been to and wanted to do something a bit different. Just to really upset you, I'd actually really like lime green accessories, but don't think there's enough around for me to get them

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 14:18

or this!

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2010 14:21

Here you go.

pagwatch · 29/04/2010 14:52

OOh
The gardeners are in just now [fnar] I could get them to knock one up with my trimmings

Hullygully · 29/04/2010 14:58

Ignore Pag, she's just being silly. She doesn't understand about style.

Now this is nice

aquavit · 29/04/2010 15:01

I hate fascinators

I got a truly wonderful hat from this website

it is a very ugly site and the model photos are awful (they have about two pictures of someone's face that they have just superimposed the hats on), though they do have lots of different shots of the hats themselves

but their customer service is good, their prices are very good, and my hat is fab

there are some right horrors on there too and I expect the odd fascinator as well...

MarshaBrady · 29/04/2010 15:03

to hully and pag.

mippy · 29/04/2010 16:17

i wore a mini-top hat from accessorize to our work Christmas party, which looked ace. If it helps, though, my colleague goes in full drag so I think that detracted from any naffness element.

shhhh · 29/04/2010 21:24

get a fascinator from cherry chou. Fab imo and I have just bought one for a wedding im at next weekend.

Not naff at all, doesn't scream I have lack of fasion sense..very glam, not ott and miles cheaper than a hat etc!

Its a little clip with diamante's and feathers. Very subtle.

QueenThistle · 01/05/2010 13:55

Pink enough for you? Although it is more cool than hot

waitingforgodot · 01/05/2010 15:26

no no no
wear a flower in your hair

SuSylvester · 01/05/2010 15:27

Trikken · 01/05/2010 15:44
