Crest whitening strips but you ahve to be religious about wearing them . They make a real difference after about 10 days I reckon

Is it a gradual whitening effect? So if you get to day 8 and they are white enough, you stop using them? (Am scared of over-white teeth...)

Yes, Crest whitening strips are brilliant - try the Supreme version (available online only) but I'd give a medal to anyone that manages to use them twice a day for 10 days. They make your teeth really sensitive. I just use one every few days and my teeth are still a whole lot whiter than they were...

How often do you use them? Just for the initial 7/10 days and then every year or whatever when they start looking yellow again?

Or do you need to use them, as dogrilla seems to imply, every few days but continually?

My dentist is offering tooth whitening for £140 with moulded trays, but that sounds like a lot!

I brought one of the DIY kits from Boots and had quite good results. I can't remember which one exactly but it was a set that comes with a mouth shield, paste and toothpaste. I also use the Colgate whitening mouthwash combined with a whitening toothpaste.

DH & I have had amazing results just using Arm & Hammer toothpaste and one of these

Crest Whitestrips are very cost-effective. I had in-office bleaching done once and while it worked it was a) expensive and b) gave me shooting pains in my teeth for the next 24 hours -- I thought I was going to lose my mind. With Whitestrips if you get any sensitivity you can just cut back to only once a day or even skip a day entirely.

wonderingwondering: You only get over-white teeth with veneers. In fact, a dentist in California once told me there are "normal" veneer colors and then there are veneer colors used by those in the entertainment industry, and that one of those colors is actually called "Hollywood White."

Another vote for Crest whitestrips here. I used them once a day (instead of twice like recommended, to reduce sensitivity, though meant it took twice as long to finish the pack). I had hardly any sensistivity effects. Don't brush teeth before using them, only afterwards, and use Sensodyne - that helps with sensitivity.

I used them about a year ago and the effect has worn off a bit, but still much whiter than they used to be.

They aren't legal in the UK. So you'll need to get them off the interweb. I can't recommend a specific site as a mate got me mine from the US, sorry, but lots of people selling them on Ebay.

Here They are fab....... first used them about 5 years ago and just really need a top up about once a year. Many compliments even though my teeth weren't that bad before I used them.

crest strips work.Not sure if this is just me though, but they made my teeth v.sensitive.

They do make your teeth sensitive but they do work. Dont go for that Bright Smile treatment it really is painfull!! I will be stocking up on Crest when I go to the States this year.

Those whitestrips sound great - which ones did you use,the basic supreme ones or one of the other 5 types. Thanks for that link, am really tempted.

I've used one called Maxbrite which was brilliant. About £25 I think.

£140 for whitening at the dentist including trays is really, good, blodau. I'd bite her hand off (with my Persil white gnashers!)

can I just ask, why do they make the teeth so sensitive? Do they damage the enamel I wonder?

Pofaced, I don't think they damage the enamel (not sure), but I have definitely read that all whitening products dehydrate the teeth - actually the Zoom-type 1 hour whitening treatments are worse for this than the at-home gradual treatments.

To supervixen, they are lite bits of sellotape with a bit of gel on one side, you stick the strip to the front of your teeth and keep it there for about half an hour. (pick some time when you don't need to talk...). then brush teeth.

Have ordered some. So if my teeth fall out it will be all your fault.

I Am a teeth whitening specialist and DO NOT use strips! These can cause extreme sensitivity due to contact with the gums. Over the counter kits are not very effective due to the licensing laws of hydrogen peroxide content and will probay only contain Carbomine which is a weaker bleach.

in europe it is illegal strictly speaking according to trading standards to have anything with more than 0.5% hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth effectively you need higher concentration, they re supposedly clarifying the law but that has been case for at least 3-5 years, probably will make it illegal to get tooth whitening in beauty salons etc, the best method is at home with trays that fit over your teeth, ebest if trays are made for you by dentist with an impression tray fits better no fluid on gums etc,

the official figures and research shows at least 10% suffer sensitivity, when doing process must clean teeth first otherwise agent will not touch all of tooth surface, and while treating no heavy staining food like black coffee red wine curries with lots of tumeric etc, also will take much longer if you smoke.

good whitening kit the effect should last 2-3 years less if you smoke

whitening toothpastes remove stains but not strong enough to probably whiten

whitening does not damage enamel but if sensitive can use every 2-3 days instead will just take longer, buy some sensodyne too and after brushing do not rinse just spit out

Another vote for Crest strips. I bought a pack of 40 but my teeth are very light anyway so I only used 10 days worth then stopped. That was about 4 months ago and I'm probably ready for another go with them.

Carry round some Sensodyne Rapid Relief toothpaste in your handbag and rub it on your teeth as and when you need to.
