Do you wear makeup every day?

Just curious really. Speaking as someone who has worn it all day every day since I was 16 and even had to reapply it before going into hosp when I was in labour with ds 1 which was a complete waste of time essential in my view, I've recently tried not wearing any. Mainly because I wear it as I feel it makes my skin look better but feel it could do with a break so aside from mascara which is essential I'm having a little time off, although obviously when I go back to work after Easter hols will be wearing it for work.

Usually just mascara, as you say, it is essential.

SpawnChorus · 15/04/2010 18:36

Yes, otherwise I get sympathetic looks, and people asking if I'm tired / ill

said · 15/04/2010 18:39

Yes. Probably makes me look older but less scary.

birdsandblossoms · 15/04/2010 18:39

i wear mascara, some max factor foundation on my cheeks and chin blended in and lipstick/lipbalm thats it really but always wear it

sungirltan · 15/04/2010 18:44

i wear it every day. tbh i'd actually like some time off from it but everyone i know would think i was ahving a breakdown. seriously i would look like Cindy in Hollyoaks when her child was missing.

i wear liquid eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencil and nearly always a hint of foundation, under eye concealer, tiny bit of powder and then either some bronzer or some benetint depending on season.

its the eyemakeup i feel chained too as its so noticable if i dont wear it :-(

ImSoNotTelling · 15/04/2010 18:48

Rarely wear makeup unless on a night out/work meeting. As on mat leave at the moment with BF baby this translates to never.

bobbiewickham · 15/04/2010 19:05

God yes, since I was twelve.

No makeup days (ie Sundays and when ill) are days when I wear concealer, eyeliner and mascara. And probably lip balm.

Every other day is foundation, concealer (two - one for undereye shadows, one for spots), blusher, powder, eyeliner, two shades of eyeshadow, mascara and lipgloss.

Would scare dogs and small children without it.

cyb · 15/04/2010 19:16

yes I do.

and sometimes I apply make up that deliberately looks like I am wearing no make up

I look like a cadaver without it

nowwhatdoido · 15/04/2010 19:28

I never used to wear any make up, maybe a little bit if I was going out, once in a blue moon.

The last year or so though, I've started to look older ( am 35 next week ) and have gradually begun to wear it more often. Now I wear it most days. Especially since I've developed thread veins on my nose. I look and feel better with it on now, and I have a bit more time to devote to personal grooming now that the children are a bit older.

Foundation, blusher, eyeliner and lipstick/gloss.

If I don't wear it now, I get comments about looking tired and ill.

tethersend · 15/04/2010 19:28

Yes.

I would rather leave the house with a made up face than clean underwear.

I have actually had to make that choice on a few occasions.

Blusher! Without blusher I would be mistaken for a corpse! And lipbalm (is that make-up)....

AND if I have to leave the house - concealer, brow highlighter and mascara and quite often lip stain

Oh, and either fake tan or tinted moisturiser...

This is normal though I think.....

cyb · 15/04/2010 19:39

these threads usually kick off with the no make up briagde trumpeting in saying looks dont matter and we are all shallow bimbos

said · 15/04/2010 19:40

And assuming that if you do wear make-up you must look like Jodie Marsh.

deaddei · 15/04/2010 19:42

Then I am a shallow bimbo.
Better than a haggard old crone.
Bobbi Brown's cream blusher in coral is fantastic.

cupofteaplease · 15/04/2010 19:47

Unfortunately, yes I do wear make up every day.

I have tried to give it up, but I get fed up of people asking me if I am poorly, tired etc if I don't wear at least foundation, eyeliner, mascara and blusher. Even if I leave one of these things out I get the sympathetic looks

MaineGirl · 15/04/2010 19:52

Most days i wear make up. I usually have sunday off though
Work make up is full foundation (tinted moisturiser in summer) concealer under eyes, loose powder to set foundation. eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, lipstick. non work makeup is eyeliner, mascara, gloss or balm and pressed powder to take shine of my t-zone.

SirCharlieStinkySocks · 15/04/2010 19:57

To be honest it's only because I'm on hols from work and with the kids and not actually meeting many people I know is the reason I'm trying to go without it. I know it's a confidence issue with me and always has been but if I don't have my foundation, bronzeror highlighter, blusher and mascara at the very least I feel slightly under-dressed. I may well try just a day or two in the week without it when I go back to work but I thought even just a short break may help my skin.

Hell yes. I have to. My inner goth doesn't allow me out without my dark eye make up!

I too, reapplied before labour with DD, and after, and everyday I was in hospital after her birth.......and once I was home, even after NO sleep, I'd still be made up, just in case..........

GwennieF · 15/04/2010 20:10

Sure, what's wrong with wearing make-up every day?

I long for the days when I used to be able to wear dangly earings evey day too... (DS is obsessed with my ears and plays with them constantly)

moonshine · 15/04/2010 20:11

Yes pretty much unless I do not intend to leave the house at all, because as well as it making me look better (I think), I do actually enjoy wearing it and putting it on is an integral part of my wake-up-and-be-able-to-face-the-world routine.

DrDoobs · 15/04/2010 20:17

make up? what's that?

although as a near 40 I do wish I had spent the last 10 years moisturising at least...

NBelle · 15/04/2010 20:19

I never wear any makeup, purely as it translates to an extra 5 minutes in bed every morning and I am lazy.

I do wish sometimes that i wore more, maybe i should subtly start wearing some.

purplepeony · 15/04/2010 20:26

Iwear it every day and would not go outside without it. I do not even open my front door without it.
Why? Because I have very pale transluscent skin and purple under eye shadows, andnext to no eye lashes. Without make up I look like the living dead.

Normal routine takes about 10 minutes and includes sunscreen, foundation, concealer, blusher , eye pencil , mascara and lippie- if pushed for time or gardening I leave off the eye shadow.

I look "unmade up" as it's all nude colours.

usualsuspect · 15/04/2010 20:28

yes
