Best foundation for VERY pale skin?

GlendaTheGrizzlyPiggy · 07/04/2010 10:47

I have really pale skin ( think Dita Von Teese) but I have some scarring from teenage spots & the usual blemishes so I like to wear foundation. I haven't found one that's light enough for me yet. I've got normal/combination skin.

Please lovely mumsnetters can you reccomend something for me? Am willing to spend up to £30. I am very sick of walking round looking like an oompa loompa.

sister is pale
she has a new one from Lancome she rates

tummytime · 07/04/2010 10:49

Have you tried Bobbi Brown? They come up very very pale - works for me and I go pale with a tan - I'm blue in winter!

Clarins Instant Smooth 00 ivory.

I am the colour of mozzarella, and it's wonderful.

Thank you . I'm off to town in a bit so I'll go have a good shuftie round the Beatties beauty dept & check them out. I was a bit nervous about spending so much on a foundation after I was totally ripped off by a Chanel beauty laydee who sold me a v.expensive foundation that looked lovely in the shop but when I got it home it was terrible. Wouldn't give me a refund either .

Oh, I agree, avoid the Estee Lauder women- I spent £50 last summer and looked like fecking David Dickinson afterwards. Sold it on ebay.

purplepeony · 07/04/2010 12:21

I'd suggest Bobbi Brown Alabaster. I am very pale and would need the next shade up which is Ivory.

You might also look at Clinique Super balanced.

IMO all Chanel ones are much too dark- they don't suit me- and there is a very limited range of shades.

Agree try Lancome too but I haven't used theirs for over 25 years! I gave up when I got eczema as they are highly perfumed.

MsDav · 07/04/2010 12:22

Bobbi Brown cream compact foundationn gives good coverage, alabaster and porcelaine are very pale

ilovemydogandmrobama · 07/04/2010 12:23

I use No 7 cream.

jellybeans · 07/04/2010 16:17

No 7 intelligent colour

chachachachacha · 07/04/2010 16:20

yes yes to bobbi brown - I am v pale too and it is the only foundation that matches my skin tone.

jumblequeen · 07/04/2010 16:49

Laura Mercier's 'Porcelain' is great! I use a tinted moisturiser, which is lovely.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/04/2010 16:59

Lancome Photograpjhic Luminesnece - I am very pale albeit with a pink undertone to my skin, this is perfect.

Have tried Chanel, Chantecaille, Laura Mecier however all too yellow tones so look like corpse.

Estee Lauder also too yellow, also (Double Wear) is frightening texture like PVA glue.

By Terry Eclat Opulent is fantastic - comes in one colour which adjusts on the skin and is the best foundation ever, however is 90 bloody quid.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/04/2010 17:00

For el cheapo range - Rimmel (the one in the beige tube with a pink lid advertised by Kate Moss after a night on the charlie) - it is very good albeit shimmery.

brimfull · 07/04/2010 17:01

lol at bucharest and mozzarella

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2010 17:01

Chanel Vitalumiere limpide is a good, pale shade. You need very little if your very pale (like me) - it's still darker than my neck but I blend, blend, blend.

Also I find a proper pale powder is best - not translucent as they never really are.

kingprawntikka · 07/04/2010 17:38

Mac do a very pale foundation.

domesticslattern · 07/04/2010 18:04

Another vote for Laura Mercier.

Whatever you end up doing, never buy a foundation in the shop straight away. You can never tell under all those lights. Take a tiny pot and ask for a sample so you can use it at home in your own time. They give you a funny look but if they are worth their salt they do give you some.

vesela · 07/04/2010 19:04

I'm pale with a pink tone, like Getorfmoiland, and bought Lancome Photogenic Luminescence on her recommendation and it's excellent. I think I may have the second palest rather than the palest, but it's good for pink rather than yellow-toned skin anyway.

vesela · 07/04/2010 19:05

sorry, photogenic lumessence

SuSylvester · 07/04/2010 19:07

hey
was just looking for prooof that i was the first person to rave about vitalumiere whn i found a very similar thread in archives

vesela · 07/04/2010 19:09

actually I think they have two pale ones, one yellow-toned and one pink-toned - I have the latter and it's called Lys Rosé.

Mirrorball · 07/04/2010 19:14

Clarins - they will tell you which one - I love their foundations, primers and radiance thingies.

Adair · 07/04/2010 19:21

On the cheapy end - I have a Max Factor one, and Collection 2000 !! Both pale enough. Also Maybelline Minerals seems to be fine too.

I usually buy them, think they're ok then a week later realise I look orange.

GlendaTheGrizzlyPiggy · 07/04/2010 20:23

Adair that's always what happens to me as well. Then I spend the next week blushing furiously at the fact that I walked round for ages looking like a gormless satsuma.

Thank you all for the reccomendations (sp?). I managed to blag some samplers & I think i'm going to buy some trial size pots from a website so I can really make sure that when I pay full whack for one it will definatly suit me.
