I'm visiting the UK soon, help me plan my capsule wardrobe

I can't get a handle on what the weather is like and what I'll need. North of England in two weeks time. Should I pack my boots?

A cagoule I beleive that can be packed into a very small capsule.

Bikini and wellies if the weather today has been anything to go by.

wellies, raincoat and an umbrella. I guess some clothes underneath too. :/

This is not filling me with joy. Last time I visited it rained for 3 straight weeks.

Nice warm jumper too, bloomin' freezing today

Oh god, I'm making a trip back next month. Was sort of hoping my normal clothes and a jumper would do me.

which bit of the north?

Would a down jacket be overdoing it?

And think dark satanic mills.

Does ds need warm pants - or will normal cotton cargo pants be okay?

Impossible to say really (sorry!).

I'm in the south east and this week it has ranged from freezing to mild. Bring lots of layers so you can put on clothes and strip off during the day. Mind you, spring is about three weeks late so I'm still wearing winter clothes at the mo.

I am still wearing everything I wore in the winter - even vests - so I wouldn't recommend bringing anything summery.

Where are you coming from? That makes a big difference because if you are somewhere hot now, the difference in temperature will shock you. I know my mil comes over from Australia every year around this time and when we see her, she is wrapped up in several layers with a big fleece on top, even indoors, and we are (usually) rejoicing in the warmth and starting to go without all the thick layers.

Tights are a wonderful thing. And if it gets really cold, you can wear them (furtively) under trousers for added insulation.

Weather is wet and nippy at the moment. But occasionally sunny. So, yes to layers.

We're doing lots of tea-dresses, still. But, possibly owing to the weather, with a bit of irony (ie, with thick, often black, tights and cardigans.) Great thing about that is that you can feel a bit spring-like if the sun does show,

You can pick up a very English, flowery, cagoul in Cath Kidston, to remind you of your visit. Though the Kidston mania has waned a little, I think it will bring back your trip and be a source of conversation amongst your friends.

I would go for a waterproof jacket maybe buy one over here. (if the exchange rate works for you) Also a mac for more dressy days. knee high boots with dresses work all year here and keeps some light pumps if the boots get too hot. Lovely warm tights with dresses. Cardigans to put over dresses if you are slim put a belt over the top to have a clinched in waist. pretty vest under dresses. i am still wearing boots every day - long ones with woolly tights and skirts and short ones with jeans. and thermal underwear aka uniqlo heatthech tops

i have not yet moved into lightweight macs and pumps / shoes with dresses and my cotton cardigans are still in the wardrobe awaiting spring

Essential to underdress as soon as the sun comes out. A nice white vest style T shirt is good for all occasions (and all arms). We Geordies have not been seen in tights since January - and any jacket is just a sign of extreme softness. Oh yes, leggings and ballet pumps or flip flops (no matter how gnarled your feet or how hard it's raining) will be fine from April onwards....

But seriously, layers and a light mac.

i thought strapless minidresses were compulsory for all geordie women from march onwards????

I live in NZ - the land of goretex and fleece. I just didn't want to come over all down on the farm.

Though the Cath Kidson idea would probably impress people at the school gate.

Would it be very anal to only pack black white and red clothes so that everything will match when I wear it all together in the cold?

don't bother with the brolly - been too windy to use it!

Have just googled the Kidson cag in a bag - can't go there, pattern is just too busy.

I should stay here, it's been in the high 20s all day and we are supposed to be entering autumn.

No come over. Then on your return you'll enjoy home more! It not so bad honest hunt out warm pubs with good food and a roaring fire. Be warned still wear layers some pubs get too warm
