I can't get a handle on what the weather is like and what I'll need. North of England in two weeks time. Should I pack my boots?

At least everywhere will have central heating inside. Yesterday it was 26 outside and about 16 in my teaching room which gets no sun. I wore my jacket inside and took it off to go outside at lunch.

I'm in the North of England - it's been pouring down today - more rain forecast until Tuesday, they also said it might get colder. I'm hoping the weather is going to buck up for Easter weekend.

I have 7 of everything for ds, he has no warm coat - are they still in the shops?

How about getting him a winter coat here before you go - the kids shops are getting their winter stock in now. Then it will be good for the UK and for the coming winter here in NZ.

thirtypence · 29/03/2010 07:40

We are coming back in the pointy end and so have more baggage allowance. Hence wanting to buy anything bulky/heavy in the UK.

The warm coats aren't in the shops now - it's all spring/summer stuff which is a joke as it is raining once again and they have forecast snow for Wednesday!

KristinaM · 29/03/2010 14:33

snow today and cold wind

DrNortherner · 29/03/2010 14:51

I'min the North and am still wearing skinny jeans or skirts with tights and knee hight boots. Not warm enough for ballet pumps just yet.

You will deffo need your doen coat and lots of cardi's. Pack warmer trouseres for ds just in case. This Northerly wind can be quite biting if they only have thin kegs on.

I have packed lots of merino tops which I can pile on top of each other if I have to but are also light and don't need washing much. I have also packed leggings, pants and merino skirts that can all be worn together. I look like an advertisement for NZ wool.

Ds has some warm track pants from M&S waiting for him. He will have to wear both his polar fleece tops and his school raincoat all at once.

There will probably be a heatwave now.

Lack of winter coat is good excuse to go sale shopping at the Trafford Centre (or whichever massive shopping centre you will be near)

thirtypence · 30/03/2010 09:36

We will not be far from Trafford Centre.

snowing again today here. well more sleet really but still cold

thirtypence · 30/03/2010 18:25

That's it the down jacket is going into the bag (not sure what is coming out to make room...)

my kids are wearing ski jackets, scarves, hats, gloves and boots to school today

WhatSheSaid · 30/03/2010 19:50

I thought you might be somewhere in the vicinity of the Trafford Centre, from your cryptic location clue . I'm from that neck of the woods myself.

Would this be worth buying/bringing for ds?

OP posts:
serinBrightside · 30/03/2010 22:47

Flipping Heck! It has been 15degrees centigrade all day today (with just the one sleet shower), wouldn't have thought you would need a down jacket. My DS's are running around in fleeces with a waterproof if it's raining and they complain they are too hot!

How old is DS? I have stuff to fit from age 7 to 9 if you would like to borrow? I am not far from Trafford centre either.

thirtypence · 31/03/2010 01:01

I have purchased the down jacket but it is very light and will need here for winter anyway.

Ds is 7 - but I think we will be okay. My plan is to bring winter clothes and if we have a heatwave I will buy new stuff which ds can wear again in 6 months time.

I think I am obsessing about the suitcase packing to distract from the 32 hour flight time.

thirtypence · 09/04/2010 19:27

Just a quick update that we are here and very warm. The outdoor clothing type shops turned out to have lots of suitable jackets for ds - so much so that I've filled the suitcase with the next sizes of them.

We looked a bit mad in Chester yesterday - all merino and fleece with everyone else in T shirts having picnics.
