Pleeease help, shoe crisis!

Hen night in a couple of weeks, got most of my outfit sorted, but I need help with shoes!

A couple of ladies have decided to wear 'formal flats' or mid heels, to save their little feet from aching so much that it ruins their night. This is a great idea for me, because me and heels, well, it's like asking a bloke to walk in them unless they're 3 inches or less! Quite a few times I have gone out, and come midnight, have been dying to go home and soak my feet in a bucket of ice. I don't want a good night ruined yet again, so I think flats are the way to go!

I have this skirt(, and was planning on teaming it up with a black just above elbow length sleeved bodysuit and some 3/4 length black tights to hide my ghastly legs, and nude bead accessories. All looks very pretty on. But I'm struggling to find a flat or flat-ish shoe to complete the look. They all look too casual!

So I'm recruiting any shoe savvy people to help me Very much appreciated!

I don't think any flat or low heels would suit tights that stop half way down your leg, if you have such appalling legs it will only cut them into bits and highlight them (do you want the only bit of flesh on your lower half showing to be the bit of leg just above you ankle? - I would do full length leggings and flat biker boots or full length sort of riding boots and I wouldn't wear that white skirt and black everything else.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 14:57

Argh, I knew someone was going to say that The only acceptable part of my legs are my calves, and I didn't want to be covered head to toe, hence my 3/4 length reasoning, pah!

The skirt is cream in colour btw I hate wearing light colours on top, too many visible lumps and bumps that way!

Red patent? - quite 1980s (they also come in black)!
Similar in black satin
Black with a gemstone.

JackieNo · 20/03/2010 15:02

(MmeCastafiore's right though - maybe at least go for opaque tights, not leggings?)

hulahooper · 20/03/2010 15:02

Are these too casual - Office ballerina £25? Something about the pink is drawing me to them, could be a bit of a love/hate colour though.

MadameCastafiore · 20/03/2010 15:06

But it will look weird a bit of calf floating around above black shoes and below black tights!

Maybe if you are really wanting to go for them go for flats with a short clingy black skirt and everything else in black which will look fresher but those shoes are vile.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 15:09

I don't mind swapping the skirt for a different skirt, or maybe even a dress as long as it covers my upper arms (unbelievable hatred for my arms and legs!) and is acceptable to wear with tights and flats. Doesn't have to be overly dressy, just not casual. Oh god I need a Fairy Gokmother asap

I'd go for black patent ballet pumps. New Look have loads.

MadameCastafiore · 20/03/2010 15:17

But do not cut yourself in half with that skirt - it is a look only a very thin teen could carry off and if you have the normal lumps and bumps I wouldn't draw attention to your mid section by highlighting it in a different colour.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 15:24

So black skirt then? I don't mind, I just thought it'd be a nice chance from being all in black yet again! I'm 5'8" and a size 14 if that is any help for any suggestions

Flattering and comfy, it's all I want, why is it always too much

vesela · 20/03/2010 15:55

I would wear the skirt. Black/contrast skirt/black tends to be quite a flattering combination if you're tall (if the top is long) and I think even with a cream skirt would be good.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 16:01

What would you team it with in terms of leg wear and shoes vesela?

OP posts:
vesela · 20/03/2010 16:05

I think what a contrasting skirt actually does is draw the eye down the body and make you look slimmer. (As I said, the top needs to be long for this to happen).

(I'm 5' 8" 14 on top, 12 bottom and definitely find it a good combo).

Eglu · 20/03/2010 16:11

these are lovely and would go with the outift you suggested.

Eglu · 20/03/2010 16:13

or these sale shoes

tethersend · 20/03/2010 16:13

I would go for this with black opaques and patent pumps like this or this teamed with nude, pearl or gold jewellery

tethersend · 20/03/2010 16:15

For the love of god, stay away from the 3/4 tights though. Please.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 16:16

I'd be wearing it with a bodysuit, so can let the skirt rest further down my hips to make the top look longer if that'd have the same effect?

It's just blardy hard taking a skirt which is quite dressy, and teaming it with shoes which can be seen as quite casual.

OP posts:
SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 16:21

Jesus tethersend I don't have the balls nor figure to carry of a dress like that! All over light colours definitely do me no favours!

Eglu, pretty shoes thanks!

OP posts:
vesela · 20/03/2010 16:22

Black opaques and boots - but if shoes, I wouldn't go for total flats.

SheWillBeLoved · 20/03/2010 16:24

I was looking at these yesterday, maybe with full black tights? Oh this is hard, shoes are not my strong point!

What sort of boots vesela?

MayorNaze · 20/03/2010 16:25

i bought these the other day and they are lovely

tethersend · 20/03/2010 16:36

I promise you, that dress will be far more flattering than a black bodysuit and 3/4 tights

annamackay · 20/03/2010 16:44

i would wear ''these www.asos.com/Gap/Gap-Clean-Ballet-Pumps/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=933450&cid=6459&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize= 20&sort=-1&clr=Black''

Tortington · 20/03/2010 16:45
