Why has no-one warned us about this jeans-style revival?

In Next today I saw several pairs that were like those baggy jeans that were popular in the late 70s/early 80s (around the era of Madness) - gathered at the waist and tapered legs, often elasticated at the ankle

but the ones I saw were far worse in that they were also baggy at the top. can't find them on the website - they must be too cutting-edge!

This is only something that tall and skinny people can pull off. Oh and small children.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 26/02/2010 12:38

urrr bleached denim too; what with dungarees making a comeback as well we'll all be chanelling banarama

yikes

hatwoman · 26/02/2010 12:39

oh ffs. I've only just come round to skinnies. and even then have not, succesfully, found a pair I'll actually wear. shall I just head directly for flares...

I did smile at the Gruaniad recently, in which some young fashion writer claimed that dungarees were back. and that they were different from previous incarnations. one of the pictures was identical to a pair I had in 1990

southeastastra · 26/02/2010 12:39

like the ones linked personally

hatwoman · 26/02/2010 12:39

cross posted with boys

You've warned us . Maybe we should ask MNHQ to flag this thread - a million unique users and all that. This news is far more important for the well-being of womankind than eg the kind of biscuit eaten by MPs.

hatty

50ftQueenie · 26/02/2010 12:41

A woman at the school who thinks she is the bees knees has been sporting a pair since Christmas. She has a great body but they make her look like a sack of spuds. Nobody could tell her that of course, she thinks she looks ace. Hee hee! Twunt!

hatwoman · 26/02/2010 12:41

oh just looked at the link. just imagine if teh two were combined (dungarees and elasticated ankles) Howard Jones?

Ewe · 26/02/2010 12:43

Denim on denim is also going to be HUGE this spring/summer I hear... WHY?

It is not a good look, denim jacket and jeans

50ftQueenie · 26/02/2010 12:44

They're called carrot jeans by the way.

whyme2 · 26/02/2010 12:45

Southeast - I agree they look good on the model but for the 95% of us not that shape they will not be flattering. And I can envisage many many people wearing them.

50ftQueenie · 26/02/2010 12:45

You could always try the cacked yourself look.....

whyme2 · 26/02/2010 12:48

oh they are sooo flattering. Top marks to the designer of those.

BendyBob · 26/02/2010 12:49

Carrot jeans...? I'd need more of a turnip shape

SiriusStar · 26/02/2010 12:50

Now, the cacky jeans, they are something. An easy look to achieve I feel.

hf128219 · 26/02/2010 12:52

Yes, the double denim look is in. I think I will let that trend pass me by!

noddyholder · 26/02/2010 12:52

I tried those on and they were really flattering!Low on the waist and really made me look skinny which I'm not

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 26/02/2010 12:56

At a shade under 5'2" I don't think these are a fad I shall be buying into. Anyhoo, if you remember the 80's from the first time around, why ever would you want to re-visit them? Hideous.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 26/02/2010 12:58

Double denim, too? Is that not a perennial fashion no-no? Best left to Shakin' Stevens and my MIL.

DecorHate · 26/02/2010 13:03

I think I still have my pair from the 80s in the attic somewhere! I absolutely loved them at the time. They were just elasticated at the waist, not the ankles though...

They would look ok with converse and layered vests in summer but agree a hard look to pull off really when you are getting on a bit!
