Why has no-one warned us about this jeans-style revival?

In Next today I saw several pairs that were like those baggy jeans that were popular in the late 70s/early 80s (around the era of Madness) - gathered at the waist and tapered legs, often elasticated at the ankle

this

but the ones I saw were far worse in that they were also baggy at the top. can't find them on the website - they must be too cutting-edge!

Some of the teenagers around here are wearing straight leg jeans with the high ankle strappy shoes like these

www.mandmdirect.com/products-Firetrap-Womens-Payne-Shoe-Washed-Black_FA2668.htm

strapped over the top, to give the same sort of look.

Might be my age, but I thought they looked awful

Ewe · 26/02/2010 13:20

Even the models look shit in these double denim combos.

The second pic down of Alexa Chung looks ok though, she looks cute.

zanz1bar · 26/02/2010 14:20

Yikes I can remeber bananarama the first time round, not a good look when in your forties.
Think miss marple in baggy denim.

noddyholder · 26/02/2010 17:35

Dp used to be their drummer so that shows how old I am Better not get them then !

SixtyFootDoll · 26/02/2010 17:42

I saw lots of rolled up denim and chinos today,I am keeping an open mind!

noddyholder · 26/02/2010 17:45

Rolled up is fine

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 18:25

Lucycat · 26/02/2010 18:45

Ewe · 27/02/2010 11:20

I tried on some stonewash denim jeggings today... the shame.

Not A Good Look.

RoseWater · 27/02/2010 11:25

They look dreadful and I can remember wearing them in the 80s - but I bet by next year we'll all mostly have sucummbed just like we have to leggings treggings / skinny skintight jeans etc

Rockbird · 27/02/2010 12:04

I would love dungarees to come back. I nearly nearly bought some maternity ones a couple of weeks ago (not pg just fat) but realised that none of my family would want to be seen in the street with me if I did so I held off.

SixtyFootDoll · 27/02/2010 14:14

AAAh I used to love my denim dungaress, used to wear mine baggy with a vest and my DM boots back in the day!

LadyGaggia · 27/02/2010 14:21

I refused to wear denim dungarees the first time round. All my friends were wearing them with hoodies and big trainers. It was such a godawful look.

There is no way on earth that I would ever do it again.

What about those shoes you could send off for, advertised in the back of Smash Hits. They were Bros inspired I think, and had watches or something similar embedded in them.

TidyBush · 27/02/2010 14:22

I struggled to carry that look off 25 years ago when I was half the size I am now. Think I'll give it a miss

MitsubishiWarrioress · 27/02/2010 14:43

I am a big dungaree lover but only in the summer, a strappy vest, flip flops and a pair of sunglasses and I own summer , but noooo to the cuffed jeans....

hatwoman · 27/02/2010 16:13

my dungarees were grungey - worn with vests and floppy cardigans and monkey boots.the last time I wore them was when dd was 2. she found them and insisted I dress up as bob the builder

I quite like the cuffed ankle thing, in practical terms, it would stop the bottom of ur jeans getting soggy if rainy or muddy, also like slim jeans 4 that reason. I do feel bootcuts/wide legs are prob more flattering but hate wet bits at hems!

LynetteScavo · 28/02/2010 17:59

I shall nott be buying any!

Why are they called carrot jeans?
