What would you wear to these weddings...?

If you were going to a wedding in Yorkshire in a stately home in May, and one in Spain in June (no overlap of guests)?

Imagine you are mid-20s, 5'7, and slim with good skin, small boobs, and relatively chunky legs.

I know it's early, I am just scouting around for inspiration and ideas rather than committing to buy anything yet.

Nautical is going to be HUGE this year ( as it was last year ) so I'd recommend a very on trend and very slinky...

Nautical Cocktail Dress

very chic

traceybath · 18/02/2010 06:58

nude

maxi

pretty

coast strapless

bright

oasis maxi

Any good?

SofaQueen · 18/02/2010 07:41

I think that a maxi dress with a dramatic necklace would look fab on you, and be appropriate for both occasions. I'll do a dig for some.

TrillianAstra · 18/02/2010 13:53

Mmm, maxi dress is nce but I'm not keen on the brownish colour. It's not too dramtic or 'look at me' to have a long dress at a wedding?

I've actually seen the one tracey labelled 'pretty' in the shops and my first thought was 'I wonder if it comes in colours'?

The neckline of the 'bright' one is lovely, and I like the slashes of white at the knee in the firts nautical dress.

I would go for cocktail length dress, and then for the Yorkshire wedding:

  • cropped jacket
  • court shoes
  • tights
(this is assuming, probably correctly, that it will be cold and draughty) Then, for Spain
  • no jacket
  • wrap for later in the evening
  • corsage or large flower in hair
  • sandals

How are you shoulders? Happy to expose them>

TrillianAstra · 18/02/2010 14:05

Ooh, large flower? Good idea!

My shoulders are awesome.

I have vague optimistic thoughts about May in Yorkshire, but I know it will actually be rubbish weather.

Thank you all for playing imaginary dress-up with me

Is the wedding in Spain a religous one? I'd avoid black if that's the case, and make sure you have something to cover your shoulders in the church.

FakePlasticTrees · 18/02/2010 14:08

oh, and warm clothes for yorkshire in May!

traceybath · 18/02/2010 14:30

Right - so you like colour - any in particular? And strapless perhaps?

Whats your budget - tis fun to shop for someone tall and young

I think maxi could work for spain but perhaps not for yorkshire in may.

traceybath · 18/02/2010 14:47

too short?

maxi

slinky colour

another maxi

I think a maxi would be fine at summer wedding although more problematic for yorkshire one.

BunnyLebowski · 18/02/2010 14:50

For the spanish wedding - bloody gorgeous

This too

TrillianAstra · 18/02/2010 15:48

Budget is I will look at things I like and either save up or find something cheaper but similar by May

I'm actually at work so will look properly later.

So far, I like

this toast one best of potential 2010 wedding outfits.

Ewe · 18/02/2010 16:31

The maxi dresses Bunny linked to are lovely. If you can pull them off, which I reckon with your figure you can, go for it!

This ASOS maxi is pretty too, very simple and would need accessories.

I really like this dress would look hideous on me but I think it's a good wedding dress if not too short on you.

Ewe · 18/02/2010 16:37

Very pretty

Depending on your style

Unusual maxi

Colourful

KentuckyFriedPenguin · 18/02/2010 16:44

the maxi dress that Tracey linked early on is LOVELY. WIth a pair of nude shoes it would look fab!

Most of the ones on the thread are hideous imo

traceybath · 18/02/2010 17:03

I like the asos maxi - lovely colour.

this is lovely

traceybath · 18/02/2010 17:07

Love that link - all the ladies who think they look better without make up should watch that

Right laguna has gone into my virtual space nk basket.

Where do you get that beaute stuff from?

traceybath · 18/02/2010 17:14

Oh found it here

traceybath · 18/02/2010 17:14

Oooops wrong thread

TrillianAstra · 18/02/2010 17:53

Show me the link about not looking better without makeup?

OP posts:
traceybath · 18/02/2010 18:04

prettier with make up

minipie · 18/02/2010 18:14

this one has colour and is maxi

TrillianAstra · 19/02/2010 12:04

KFP - I do like that maxi dress but absolutely not in that colour. I am not wearing grey or brown or beige or taupe to a wedding.

I agree, prettier with makeup

More comments - Ewe's ASOS maxi - I've tried one like that before, and it didn't fall very well, when fall is the main point of a long dress. The jungle print dress is very cute but strapless and short might be a bit too much skin for wedding.

Pink chiffon - too girly/twee for my tastes. Even less keen on the Dior pink one, which is good as it's £700. Shape of the Intropia one is really cool, I quite love it, but I wouldn't wear a dress with 2 different patterns on it. Didn't like the 4th one in that set.

Giraffe one is cool but probably too beachy.

The Cynthia Oasis one is awesome, very cool. SIlly worry - are some of the colours too pale that it looks like wearing a long white dress with colour splashed on? So perhaps not v respectful? (yeah, I know, I've been reading too many bridezilla AIBUs )
