Leading on from 'do you wear make up every day', how much of you is natural, and how much is artifice?

Me:

Naturally red hair, highlighed blonde. Is washed and blow dried every day otherwise would look like wreck of hesperus. Also conditoning treatments to counteract the effects of peroxide and hairdryer.

Eyebrows bushy caterpillars, so threaded into a nice shape. Also used to be dark but they have faded over the years, so colour them in.

Skin wouldn;t be so good if I hadn't worn sunblock for years.

Skin would also be dry as a riverbed if hadn't used creams (albeit cheap basic ones)

Legs, armpits, bikini line shaved.

Wear make up every day.

Try to eat sensibly as have natural tendency to have a pot belly and big bum. Exercise a lot to counteract this.

Would look a lot different if I hadn't helped myself a lot on the way.

Oh god ....my hair although its natural coloured is wavy beyond belief so its straightened every day

I have dodgy coloured skin so wear a foundation all day although my skin is well moisturised and looked after ....

my tan is almost always false

my nails are false

I shave too otherwise would be fuzzy

And i do wear makeup every day - always have.

ooops

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2010 08:48

Oh yes padded bras here as well.

Never bother with my nails though - I file them down short but never put nail varnish or falsies on. That falls into my can't be arsed category.

MerlinsBeard · 09/02/2010 08:53

I pluck my eyebrows and dye my hair. My armpits are always shaved but legs only done when I need smooth legs!

Padded bra here too but as limes are bigger that my boobs I am sure you can let me off

Bobbiewickham · 09/02/2010 09:04

Dyed, straightened hair with shine spray.
Plucked eyebrows.
Dyed eyelashes (sometimes).
Facefull of makeup.
Underwired/padded bra.
Clear polish on filed nails.
Shaved pits, legs and trimmed ladygarden.
Painted toenails, always.
Perfume, always.

Am Dolly Parton without the tits or talent. But then, to look at me, you wouldn't think I'd gone to so much effort...would look like a train wreck without!

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2010 09:08

Lolol Dolly Partom without the tits or talent.

Like her quote 'it takes a helluva lot of money to look this cheap'

Oh, forgot to add that my hair is as fine as can be, so add serum, volumising spray, mousse and hairspray.

Hair: Have dark hair, which is highlighted (half head). No grey yet though. Is washed and conditioned daily - have psorasis and not washing it makes it itchy I never bother with blow drying or straighteners unles going out properly. I leave it to dry naturally (car heater on way to work helps, lol) and don't use serums, sprasy, or products on it unless for a night out.

Eyebrows: still dark naturally. I have a natural nice shape apparently but have them waxed or threaded every cupl of months or so.

Skin: I use a daily moisturiser and face wash when in shower, but I am rubbish at daily cleansing or takng make up off. I do use sunscreen in the summer. Luckily I am not prone to spots, so dont need anything for them.

Body: Legs, armpits, bikini line shaved. Have dry skin so I use moisturiser most days. Have never used fae tan or sun beds. my skin is naturally pale, my legs almost blue! I do usually wear padded bras too.

Make up: Most days it is a face base and then a bronzer and lip tint. Wear more for nights out. If in house and not going out I have make up free days as my skin feels better for it.

Perfume: I wear some most days

Nails: I bite No need to polish, etc.

Diet: I am a couple of stone overweight crrently which I hate with a passion. I have been very lazy and it is to be addressed. Should have had new kick start in New Year but have been ill with oneumonia. It is now starting after half term when I should be fully recovered.

Exercise: Hmmm Have been ill since Newear which was when my new kick start was due to begin. Once fll recovered I will get the Wii Fit out 3 times a week and want to go out on my bike once a week too.

blinks · 09/02/2010 09:32

knockers harnessed and lifted by boulder holder.

I am pretty much as nature intended me.

I dye my hair about once every 6 months when the greys become too much for me, and I shave legs, armpits and excessive ladygarden every so often (not all that often in winter).

I don't think I do much else. Wash face with soap, wear balcony bras rather than padded ones as I find they produce the best shape. In winter I find I need a bit of E45 for my hands and face nowadays but never did before. I eat an OK diet, exercise not at all, am a size 12, still fit my wedding dress after 4 children and am now 45 so I reckon I am doing alright for my age.

NoahAndTheWhale · 09/02/2010 09:45

Hair : brown. Did have some blonde highlights but these have sadly gone the way of the credit crunch. Am getting grey hairs instead

Eyebrows: Very natural. Last dealt with for my sister's wedding nearly 2 years ago

Skin: Gets washed. Has suncream in summer

Body: Armpits get shaved. Legs get shaved in winter when I realise I have turned into a yeti. They get epilated in the summer.

Make-up: Very very rarely

Perfume: Can't remember when I last wore any

Nails: get filed when they are getting too long so that when I use the computer they get in the way. Keep meaning to put clear varnish on them. Keep forgetting. I paint my toenails in summer.

Diet: A bit too much sugar in there but generally OK

Exercise: Run between two and three times a week for about 30 min. I do about 3 and a bit miles each time.

Teeth: Not got any false ones (yet) but rather too many fillings and crowns.

Starting to wonder if maybe I should make a little more effort...

NoahAndTheWhale · 09/02/2010 09:46

Oh I have underwired bras. Some have padding.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2010 09:52

Yes all my bras are underwired. I don't know why. My (non wired obv) sports bra is so much more comnfortable.

I too only wash face with soap. I spend a fortune on make up, but soap and moisturising cream cheap as chips versions. Skin is good (but think that is due to sunblock).

OP posts:
Dumbledoresgirl · 09/02/2010 09:54

I don't even bother with sunblock unless I am on the beach and it is really really hot (and in this country that amounts to about once a year at best). I am blessed with darkish skin which tans very easily. Plus I want my vit D - sunblock also blocks vit D.

thumbwitch · 09/02/2010 10:11

heh heh - was going to post on t'other thread but would rather buck the trend on this one.

Hair - mostly natural colour (reddish blonde), helped a bit with Aveda Madder root shampoo/conditioner. Not washed every day or it goes into mad dry frizz bomb. Never blowdried for same reason. Mostly worn in ponytail for convenience (small child)

Skin - completely au naturel. Spots if I eat too much sugar, fine otherwise. Freckles. No creams, just lots of water (drunk) and never use soap. No sunblock unless going out in strong sun. Vit D far more important.

make up - very rarely - maybe weddings.

Shaving - pits and legs, almost never bikini line (do nail-scissor trim instead)

Eyebrows - had them waxed twice, never again. Silly mare took too much off, they looked stupid!

Bra - padded perforce because it's almost impossible to get the type I want without a central seam that don't have padding (i.e. t-shirt bra or whatever it's called). Hate underwiring, avoid it as much as poss.

Nails - pathetic weak things that are kept short (used to be very short when was working) Nail polish, almost never - it doesn't look good on short nails, imo.

Perfume - for special occasions.

Diet - too much chocolate but mostly pretty wholesome apart from that, I think - no processed foods (unless you count sausages), everything cooked from scratch, organic when I can afford it. 1 glass wine most days, lots of water, no fizzy drinks or aspartame (Yeuch - poison). Fish at least 3 times a week, oily fish usually twice.

Exercise - way too little other than running after small child. Hence (plus wine and chocolate) small spare tyre round middle. Need to do something about that.

There - mock away!

NoahAndTheWhale · 09/02/2010 10:16

Hair gets washed most days and left to dry (but very short so would take longer to find hair dryer I think).

Also have sports bra for exercise purposes.

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/02/2010 11:45

Well I never knew that sunblock kept out Vit D.

Perhaps that why I look like I have rickets. Spend vast majority of my life indoors as well.

Prefer to wear sunblock however as have had skin cancer (due to being burnt to crisp in tropics as a child). Will look into Vit D deficiency though so thanks for the heads up.

EdgarAllenSnow · 09/02/2010 12:26

armpits shaven, chin & eyebrows minimally pluckd.

hair washed most days.

aside from that...nothing really.

although i like a brisk long walk every day, i have to do it dragging a toddler along these days, which makes for it being less a matter of exercise and de-stresing and more a ritual to get through every day (calms the kids down).

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/02/2010 12:57

GetOrf - I have read it a few times and it was repeated in a newspaper fairly recently. Of course, you never know what you should believe but it made sense to me. The article said that in Britain, we do not see enough of the sun in winter to maintain healthy vit D levels. Normally, people store up a supply of the vit in the summer for use by the body in winter, but with the use of sunblocks, some people weren't getting enough. Personally, I doubt most people are affected, but if you think you might be, you can take vit D supplements in the winter. HTH

frakkinaround · 09/02/2010 13:14

Hair - naturally blonde and haystack like, washed, conditioned and left, still looks relatively presentable!

Skin - permanent sunblock! array of skin cleansers, toners, pore-minimisers and moisturisers because I like nice smelling things and it's hot and damp here so skin gets filthy quickly

Make up - most days, even if just powder, mascara and lipgloss

Body hair - epilate legs and underarms, trim bikini line

Eyebrows - blondish, plucked and filled in with eybrow pencil but still cleverly natural looking

Bra - v expensive, underwired, balcony, scaffolding

Nails - not overly long, filed, always polished even if just clear polish

Perfume - rarely, doesn't go well with mozzie repellent!

Diet - pasta/rice/couscous, fish and lots of green veg, at least 2l water a day, fruit juices, soya milk - am hideously healthy but can't eat packaged stuff due to allergies so all cooked from fresh. Red meat very occasionally. Calcium and vit D, iron and vit C supplements plus folic acid.

Exercise - gym 4 times a week, usually half hour cardio, body balance class and then weight work and stretching, pilates class. I am pre-DC though!

I am mostly me in all my slobby glory No hair dye for years, never fake tan/nails, don't own any padded bras or hold-you-in underwear, don't bother with nail varnish except the occasional toe polish at the height of summer...I do pluck my eyebrows though, they make a nice arch (whereas if left to their own devices, they grow together into one big monobrow).
