Help me find a long nice urban raincoat please!

I've been searching for yonkies. I need to deploy your help.

I want a long, lightweight raincoat which looks funky, cool, urban style, rather than the short-i'm-just-heading-up-a-mountain type.

Please find me one. You girls are good at this sort of stuff!

This kind of thing? This is a bargain if you have the budget... or cheaper

Am I barking up the wrong tree? I'm not sure what sort of style you're after...

tethersend · 04/02/2010 21:39

Oh, and size please...

VerityBrulee · 04/02/2010 21:41

I saw one recently that fits your bill, in fact I meant to start a thread about it. I was made from wet-suit fabric, looked very cool.

Made by Ilse Jacobsen, the photos aren't very detailed and not sure how widely available it is, but worth a look I think.

VerityBrulee · 04/02/2010 21:44

Here's a better picture of it that site has it in black as well

spikemomma · 04/02/2010 22:00

oooh Veritybrulee, that looks very nice! Shame i can't work out how much it is - which is probably best as it looks trop cher!

Tethersend, size medium or 12 but it has to be waterproof, not just showerproof.

Sorry i meant to say tethersend that as far as style wise goes, Verity's find looks nice, basically, something with a bit of shape to it and slightly fashionable.

There is a huge gap in the market for waterproof, funky/urban/stylish outerwear products. I wish someone would fill it soon. I mean, it's not like it doesn't rain much in this country is it...

I think verity's find is a winner; really nice.

spikemomma · 04/02/2010 22:41

I know, but how do you get hold of it, and is it mega bucks?! Is there anything else out there, which i haven't managed to find...

Quick Google conversion reveals 1399 DKK in Danish money is £163 of your English pounds.

Obviously can't read anything on the site about delivery or whatever though.

VerityBrulee · 05/02/2010 12:16

It is very cool, and that's a good price for something you'd get a lot of use from. I have a Boden one, but I'm a bit sick of it now, so might ebay it and get that one instead.

I saw mine in Avoca in Dublin, there must be stockists in the UK, you could email Ilse Jacobsen, or email the second site, I'm sure someone in their office would speak english and sort it for you.

AllBuggiedOut · 05/02/2010 16:07

Do post if you find somewhere selling it, spikemomma; it's gorgeous. Have just e-mailed Ilse Jacobson and will let you know if I learn anything about stockists!

Cranreuch · 05/02/2010 19:57

this might be too sporty?

spikemomma · 05/02/2010 22:07

Verity. you've got us all going about this coat! It's so nice. I hit a translate button (randomily found i hasten to add), description as follows:

Ilse Jacobsen Figure sewn raincoat / overcoat transition from 2009 - new trendy model. Coat is windproof, waterproof and the skin can breathe easy in it. All seams are "wallpaper" to make it extra tight. Coat is lined with fleece which makes it comfortable and warm. Coat is longer compared to the classic Ilse Jacobsen raincoat. Coat has a small shot / closed vent behind, which makes his coat, despite its length can easily be spent on cycling and walking. Zipper may also be unzipped from the bottom up. It has a large hood, which can be closed completely close. Coat is a bit big in size so you are between 2 sizes, choose like the least. Wash at 30 degrees. 100% polyester

Can't work out how find it though.

However, Cranreuch, i like that jacket too!

Although they only have it in a chocolate colour, which can't find a pic of - like the red. I'm into either a red one or white one at the mo, wonder why!

You girls are good!

Ooo, lots of them here in lots of colours. That site has english and german version so I'm sure they'd ship to the UK.

I'll be in town tomorrow, so in the interests of research I will try it on and examine closely and report back

AllBuggiedOut · 05/02/2010 23:43

I am looking forward to your report, Verity! (Didn't even know I was looking for a raincoat until I stumbled across this thread )

Cranreuch · 05/02/2010 23:50

too spotty?

Cranreuch · 05/02/2010 23:51

white

VitaminChocolate · 06/02/2010 12:00

The Ilse Jacobsen coat is on sale here - and they say they deliver to Europe (and Greenland )

1000DKK - about £110 roughly?

(they also say that the sizing is slightly on the large side, so if you are generally between sizes, then you're recommended to choose the smaller size.)

VerityBrulee · 06/02/2010 20:43

Well, I tried it on

I am 5'3" and a size 10, I tried the 38 in this pinky red. The 38 was a little big, I think I'd go for a 36.

I'm was wrong about the wet-suit fabric, it's very similar, but not as squishy! The inside of the fabric is fleecy, and the outside is kind of firmly woven but not hard IYKWIM. I would say that it would be very waterproof.

The style is great, the side panels give it a good shape, and all the zips look cool. The hood is high necked so would keep you dry, rather than having to hold it up which I need to do with my Boden one.

I am very tempted

VerityBrulee · 06/02/2010 20:46

Good find vitamin, the one I am talking about is slightly different, here, lots of detail pictures here

AllBuggiedOut · 07/02/2010 18:30

Thanks Verity - was it rubbery feeling at all? Or more fabric-like? I found a shop locally selling Ilse Jacobson, but they only had the one Vitamin linked too - which is a lot less structured and very rubbery (was worried it would rip easily). The nice lady in the shop I went to is going to call me tomorrow to let me know if she can get me one of the zippy kind. Do you remember how much it was, Verity?

VerityBrulee · 07/02/2010 19:35

It's hard to describe AllBuggiedOut, firm but not rigid, definately not rubbery, a totally different type of fabric to the other one you tried, much thicker but not heavy! It felt a bit like lightweight yoga mat material with a waterproof layer on top.
It's really stretching my descriptive skills

I tried it on in Dublin, it was 199 Euro. The pinky red shade is lovely, would be very cheering on a grey day

I love your description, thanks! Am now hoping my nice lady will be able to source one for me.
