Help me find a long nice urban raincoat please!

I've been searching for yonkies. I need to deploy your help.

I want a long, lightweight raincoat which looks funky, cool, urban style, rather than the short-i'm-just-heading-up-a-mountain type.

Please find me one. You girls are good at this sort of stuff!

I've just got this (the Wakefield one) and it is very water proof and quite fitted. I'm pleased with it but I think you need to try it on to get the right size.

AllBuggiedOut · 09/02/2010 10:19

Humph. There appear to be none in England! (Wonders whether to risk ordering from one of the Danish online sellers...)

VerityBrulee · 09/02/2010 11:25

What size are you ABO, I found the sizing on the generous side. Why don't you email the Danish sites, one of them has an English version so I'm sure they'd send it too you. Don't give up yet!

AllBuggiedOut · 09/02/2010 12:07

Usually a 10, but 12 in French Connection... I'd just be happier if I could try both sizes, but obviously don't want to have to return a coat to Denmark if I can avoid it. DH wondered if Easy Jet did cheap flights to Denmark, bless him!

VerityBrulee · 09/02/2010 12:24

I'm a 10, tried on the 38. I had t-shirt, dress and light cardigan on, but the coat felt a bit loose, 36 was a perfect fit, but I couldn't fit another layer under it. HTH!

AllBuggiedOut · 09/02/2010 12:42

You are marvellous, thank you! I suspect I'd need to try the 36 and the 38, which is putting me off ordering .

VerityBrulee · 09/02/2010 13:34

Find out how much the post would cost, and how much it would cost to return it if you need too, then decide.

If it's your dream coat, you'll still be wearing it long after you've forgotten about the postage costs.

Or you could come to Dublin for the day, Ryanair is cheap as chips! I'll show you the sights

AllBuggiedOut · 09/02/2010 13:50

Bless you! You're right, must pin down the costs and then decide. Off to find currency converter and estimate the weight of a raincoat...

spikemomma · 09/02/2010 21:14

Sorry for disappearing - we got the sick bug which is everywhere at the mo. Blur!

Anyhooo, enough about my kids health, back to me and my coat (shallow emoticon!)

Thank you so much for your responses girls.

Verity - especially you, although, it's your fault i missed my bus stop today as i was thinking about that bloomin lovley red coat...

Chunglimum - I took the plunge last week and i too bought the wakefield! In olive. It came today and i LOOOOOVE it. It has ticked all of the boxes for me. It's a bit sad that out of all our searching we can only find two coats that fit the bill. Gap. Market...?!

Verity - what was the hood like on the coat you tried on? My biggest prob with most coats is the hoods are rubbish and sort of stop too short. The wakefield's is top.

AllBuggiedOut - you HAVE to buy the red one now, as i need to buy it by proxi!

Working on it, Spikemomma! But can't find it in red in the right size anywhere. Considering sand... but postage is £20-odd and if it's not right, I've spent double that to try a coat on. Gulp. Still waiting on the nice lady I saw at the weekend who said she'd phone this week to tell me if she can get me one. [stamps foot and glares at phone...]

scattercushion · 10/02/2010 18:20

oh no the wakefield one is only available in small

scattercushion · 10/02/2010 18:47

can this really be the same raincoat? Shows what good photography can do...

looks nice
looks nasty

spikemomma · 10/02/2010 21:58

I know what you mean scattercushion. I wouldn't have looked twice at the first photo. I got mine from here

Merrell Wakefield

NonVinaigretteRien · 10/02/2010 22:01

Ah, someone's already linked to it

I'm pleased with mine though, but for some reason it's really difficult to fasten the zip!!!

NonVinaigretteRien · 10/02/2010 22:03

Ha ha ha!

You've already bought it!

that'll teach me to read the thread first

spikemomma · 10/02/2010 22:07

Cursors - that's much cheaper than minenon vin. Suffering succatash!!

Although, i love it so much i don't mind too much. Although i could have bought some new gloves with the difference. I've lost one, of all times, the day it snows again...

Am resurrecting this thread on the off-chance that anybody is interested in the Ilse Jacobsen coat - I got one from Avoca in Dublin, a very helpful lady called Shona posted a size 36 in red to me. It's fabulous, and I can't thank VerityBrulee enough! Colour is wonderful, and I love the fabric. I'd say the fit was on the generous side; I'm usually a 10 and although a smaller size would definitely be too small, there's plenty of room for bulky clothes under the 36.

Now I can't wait for it to rain! I even think the hood will be so fabulous that my specs will stay dry!

spikemomma · 23/03/2010 18:22

Ah allbuggiedout i'm so pleased for you! How nice was your helpful lady! I'm really pleased for you. That coat was just fab. That's what i had in mind when i started the thread, but i ended up loving the one i got. Still love it.
