Help me accessorise, I'm stylistically challenged! (please)

Can anyone help me accessorise these dresses:

this

and

this spotty version

I am forever in debt to the clever MNer who first linked to them for someone else as I always feel like a sack of spuds when I go to smart dos, but these dresses actually make me feel slightly grown up.

So.
I've bought the dresses with a particular wedding (muslim ceremony, just day time) and maybe general meals out or whatever in mind. They're a bit plain on their own, no?

To complicate the challenge I really can't walk in high heels as I have lived in trainers for 34 years, so shoes need to be flat or beginner heels.

Very many thanks to whoever is willing to help!

Anyone?

How much do you want to spend?

When is the wedding?

Do you need jewellery/jacket/bag, or just shoes?

Love the colour of the first dress.
Toast have some flats which are a gorgeous colour and would go really well especially with that one violet

They also have the Chie Mihara they are quite high, but I am not much good at heels and I have 2 pairs of her shoes. They are very very comfortable. The fushia colour would look fab with either dress.

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 19:29

they also have the silk velvet jacket in both colours which looks gorgeous.
I think those would look very elegant with your dresses imho

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 19:42

Lola rose has some gorgeous necklaces (on sale!) at the moment too, more great colours.

I can't link to individual ones, but Hanna, Jessica and Olivia would all look great with that neckline.

Any of this to your liking or am I way off the mark?

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 20:12

Sorry poppity, was just doing bed time

The wedding isn't 'til end of Feb so there's time to shop.

I need it all really - so used to just hanging out in jeans!

Right I'll have a quick look at your links...

Ooh thanks poppity, some really gorgeous links there for me to bookmark!

I don't think I could carry off the jacket - too unstructured for me though v lovely.

The Chie Mihara shoes are absolutely DIVINE, and I so wish I could wear them, but I fear I would break my ankle at worst and at very best I would be walking like a man in drag...

The ballet pumps and jewellery are beautiful! thank you.

Wow, the Lola Rose jewellery has some excellent discounts doesn't it? It would be a shame to not save £80 on a necklace...

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 20:48

I know, I'm tempted too.

So you want a fitted jacket? Or a cropped cardi? Or a wrap maybe?

How about colours, what do you like?

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 20:53

Well, I think I'd feel v comfy in a cardi as that is my day to day staple. I'm a short size 16 so I need forgiving clothes! I think I'd like a wrap, but do you think they can be ageing?

(Don't worry, I won't be reaching for a fascinator )

OP posts:
moondog · 22/01/2010 20:54

For the first, I'd do a long pendant-something really striking.
Silvery high shoes and a wrap. Maybe silver bracelets but only small earrings.

For second would go more folksy-brown chunky boots, wooden/bead necklace-big and chunky.
A fitted cardigan in a bright (but not neon) colour. Blue or pink perhaps.

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 20:56

Oh, sorry, and I like a cool pallette; I'm fair skinned, blue eyes, medium brown hair. (yes I'm one of the Corrs, honest)

OP posts:
PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 20:57

I think both those dresses would look lovely with warm rich colours (like the toast ones) and I don't think a wrap in those would be ageing.

I'm not great at this though, I just like shoping!- we need more people to help, I am a bit quirky in what I like, and will probably give you rotten advice about colours!

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 20:58

What kind of cardi moondog, something like this kind of shape? (I realise not that colour!)

OP posts:
LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 21:00

Ooh, Moondog, chunky boots eh? I can do chunky boots. What kinda style IYO?

OP posts:
moondog · 22/01/2010 21:08

That's too long. It needs to be quite short, under the tits actually so as not too swamp the dress.
Like blue this sort of but brighter.

Plain low flat chunky heeled boots.I have a lovely pair form Russell and Bromley (expensive but worth it).

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 21:12

this is nice

too casual?

nice shape

lovely colours

love these shoes but only for the plain dress

easier to walk in?

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 21:21

what about Fly boots if yo want chunky?

I have these the are very comfy, lots of not to bright colours there too.

bit more glam

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 21:22

at typos, my keys are sticking

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 21:22

Oh blimey ladies, they are fab suggestions, thanks!!

I get it that shorter is better - never done that before.

I love the colours of the Ness ones but maybe a bit casual?

I'm so excited that I may have an outfit for a wedding that I actually like for once!

OP posts:
crankytwanky · 22/01/2010 21:28

You might need a pashmina-style scarf to cover your hair for the muslim ceremony, or a hat, Cilla stylee.

moondog · 22/01/2010 21:29

Ness lovely but a bit casual and you need to not go too casual (at least with dark dress0 or you risk looking like a pleasant but essentially sexless art teacher.

You need a fitted cardigan (don't make mistake of going bigger to hide.Have you good tits? This will acentuate these nicely. And a high pair of shoes! They can be chunky or platform thoguh, which makes thme easier.

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 21:29

hehehe poppity, you have no idea how spot on you are!

I ordered those Fly Yule boots, just for daily wear. They arrived today. And they are too tight round the calf. boo hoo. My calves aren't even fat! I tried them on twice to check but they have to go back.

OP posts:
smallandkind · 22/01/2010 21:32

I've always had great success in phase eight and actually their necklaces are also fab.

but otherwise try dotty p for necklaces

moondog · 22/01/2010 21:32

I like these but colour too similar

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 21:32

can you do yellow?

would look good with brown accessories Moondog suggested, or with the plain dress too
