Help me accessorise, I'm stylistically challenged! (please)

Can anyone help me accessorise these dresses:

this

and

this spotty version

I am forever in debt to the clever MNer who first linked to them for someone else as I always feel like a sack of spuds when I go to smart dos, but these dresses actually make me feel slightly grown up.

So.
I've bought the dresses with a particular wedding (muslim ceremony, just day time) and maybe general meals out or whatever in mind. They're a bit plain on their own, no?

To complicate the challenge I really can't walk in high heels as I have lived in trainers for 34 years, so shoes need to be flat or beginner heels.

Very many thanks to whoever is willing to help!

Cranky, do you know anything about muslim ceremonies? It's the Walima we're invited to rather than the Nikah. Will I need to cover my head?

I'll try to avoid the 'pleasant but sexless art teacher' look. Tits are OK - Good Bra will be out

moondog · 22/01/2010 21:35

Nice with your brown frock

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 21:35

No, I definitely can't do yellow. Remember I am The Corrs

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 22:02

You guys are fab!

(Enough with the shoe porn already, I'm jealous of proper ladies what wear proper high heels)

Can I ask, would cardi+dress+pashmina be too much? just thinking of the head covering element.

OP posts:
moondog · 22/01/2010 22:11

Scarf or pashmina over arm would be fine to put over head as and when needed.Don't wear whole ensemble at once though for too long.

LowLevelWhingeing · 22/01/2010 22:22

Got it .

Thanks for your wise words poppity and moondog

Have fun and let us know what you decide on eventaully.

PoppityPing · 22/01/2010 22:50

One like this could go round neck, then unfolded and over head as required as it's fine.

If you are up for a bit of a spend, I would look at Chie Mihara shoes, they are v easy to wear even with a heel. Or maybe some Fly heels?

Shame your boots didn't fit, my friend has calf fit problems with boots, she bought the Mol I think. They are very casual though, so no good for a wedding.

NorkilyChallenged · 23/01/2010 12:02

Ooh this thread makes for lovely clicking as the links are all very nice!

LLW - if you really do struggle with heels and never normally wear them, then have a look at Clarks. The mid-heel height there I can just about manage on and I NEVER wear heels in normal life.

I've got [[http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/OnSale-is-onsale/product-is-20333402 these] whcih I wear for work and can cope with for a day. Something like that might look okay with your dress and Clarks do a nice range of colours/styles now. You can limit searches by colour/size/heel height too. Worth a look.

I know that they are not as nice as some of the shoes linked to here but for my heel-walking ability, that's about my limit!

PoppityPing · 23/01/2010 12:16

Oh, good idea Nork, Office do a Mid heel search option too

here

these are rather lovely, with a strap for extra not-wobbling ability

Norkily, I really want pretty much everthing I've linked to, esp the Toast heels and velvet jacket, oh and a Lola necklace....and the Boden yellow jacket- although can't wear yellow

[greedy and getting carried away emoticon]

PoppityPing · 23/01/2010 12:18

everything I am not liking my new keyboard, I have to thump it with my fingerdamntips.

LowLevelWhingeing · 23/01/2010 12:48

Morning all. Nice to see you're all still shopping!

That's a good idea about Clarks, maybe I can find some beginner's heels to start me off. Poppity you have excellent taste in shoes - I'm tempted to just buy some beautiful heels and just hobble to the first seat and stay there all day!

All my shoes are in boxes in my wardrobe with a description of them written on the side.

One pair actually says 'high ankle ties impossible to walk in'[shame]
