Anyone interested in forming a "shop more wisely and less compulsively", "no more expensive mistakes" and "make the most of what you already own" thread?

There seems to have been a digression from the original intention of Penth's very worthy thread so, rather than cause anyone any offence or detract from what Penth and others were setting out to achieve, would anyone like to do a thread in a similar vein? Discussing potential purchases (advising each other for/ against in sensible fashion!!) and talking about how we're wearing existing pieces etc

Am off to Sunday lunch with friends but will check back in later.

Wearing purple Tam Tam dress, grey opaques, grey slouch suede boots, charcoal travelwrap for discreet bfing. Pretty exited about the sunshine so nearly cracked out the new OP sunnies but am saving for summer proper

have a good day all

Fleecy, sorry, am not overly keen. I prefer these

LetThemEatCake · 25/01/2010 22:05

oh crikey, this thread is addictive - am supposed to be working tonight but here I am again ...

MM - think the Gap pea coat looks good, from what I know of your style I think it will work well.

hana - did you buy the bag? If it makes you feel any better I spent my Health in Pregnancy grant on a pair of Choos, Or, to be more exact, on one Choo since that was all the £190 covered ... ...on that note, geordie, you is just like, soooo jealous cos you know you aint gonna be wearing my shoes, girlfriend!!! Talk to the hand!!

Burningbunting - I've got the Black rats and posted some info about them a few pages back. So sorry about all the illness, hope all better soon. Love the animal print pumps, very similar to mine which I am dying to wear.

what has happened to Riven?? come back please

hoxton - v. excited about your bag! Faberoo!!

Hi Choo - yes, Bob was around recently, we had a bit of Hermes banter ... I hold her completely responsible for my new lust (not even going to comment on hells and her casual reference to inherited and forgotten scarves ...) Nor am I going to click on Tibi link, no no no NO!!!!

esher - like the shirt, not sure about the jacket ... are you tall?

Absurdly pleased that so many of you like my snakeskin dress, can't wait to get it!!

thanks to all for the Toast sizing advice

i had a size 10 coat in my basket earlier but the site crashed on me and when i got it back they only had an 8 left. i have large norks so suspect the 8 will be no use

so this thread has saved me about a tenner in wasted postage charges

now if i was some posters ( you know who you are [wags finger] ) i would go and spend ....ohh...about £300 on a dress now

mrsjuan · 25/01/2010 22:15

Wow - the Tibi dress is amazing

go on

go on

go on

KristinaM · 25/01/2010 22:17

but there are months to go until you have to get your legs out properly

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 22:23

LTEC - they may be Hermes but they are not really vintage in a beautiful way perhaps that is why I had forgotten - but Iadored my grandmother so much I feel like I should love them now I've rediscovered them.

Mrsjuan - you enabler you

florenceuk · 25/01/2010 22:34

Happy Australia Day LTEC (& everyone else!)

hellsbelles · 26/01/2010 09:04

happy australia day!

Today I left the house feeling that I looked o.k...but too many window reflections have led me to realise I look very mutton.

Charcoal (well actually they look light grey to me but that is what it said on the label) current elliot legging/jeans things, black teeshirt, big grey short sleeved chunky cardigan, black boots. All the long layers are to hide flatter big bum...but have given me little matchstick calves sticking out which make me look like some sort of mad old man.

ummm....too late to go home and change - shall have to just wing it.

MM, are you having any more luck with your flat shoe hunt? Did you see the zebra skin flats from dune posted on here last night by burning bunting. Look great to me.
Carciofi - need to know name of your paige skinnies, and colour if poss. Ta.

bodsmum · 26/01/2010 09:56

crumbs so much been going on the thread..i've been lurking but not posting as veeerryyy slow but been enjoying all the delicious links posted..do have to say another yes!yes!yes! for the snakeskin ltec and i just don't know how you are managing to resist the tibi..

good to see marshabrady's daily outfits back as they always make me smile(well kind of grimacey smile with )

just wondering..in spirit of thread trying to take better care of existing wardrobe..cashmere washing in pillow case?do you have to tie the end of pillow case so trapped inside(sorry if completely barmy question)

also anyone think of particularly good items to buy for cashmere storage..to purchase online good but also heading to westfield thurs so anything there worth looking at?

finally..i seem to remember dimly from hazy days of bf first time around having to chuck stuff out as (sorry to do this so ealy a.m)milky sick stains never washed out..do i avoid wearing anything vaguely nice or is there a better way to do my laundry!

i know this going back into the distant postings but the lady who got her lovely DH to help her wardrobe cull..well i was telling my dh the other day i liked him in slim fit jeans(rather than the foul baggyhalfway down his a** teenage ones he used to wear when in the music biz)and tried the..'what do you like me to wear?'..dresses and heels i got..worrying since although i have a dress for each day of the month and shoes to cover about 3months i am quite dress down for day to day i.e jeans with something..must try harder..

hoxtonchick · 26/01/2010 12:19

hello all
i have my bag. it's very beautiful, smells expensive. but is quite small. need to put all my crap stuff in to see if it works. GORGEOUS colour though.

dexter73 · 26/01/2010 12:22

I keep my cashmere in these. Brora have zip bags.

traceybath · 26/01/2010 12:29

Morning all.

Today I am wearing navy breton dress with pink cropped cashmere cardigan, blue tights, pink silk leopard print scarf and black calf length boots. Looks nice - well ds1 told me I looked too beautiful! But he's 5 and just likes me to wear dresses.

Have been doing more wardrobe culling - god, after having DS1 I became so mumsy - have just found a boden hotchpotch dress in my wardrobe - the shame .

Right now I bought a while ago a chocolate brown leather jacket - its cropped so waist length and has no collar. I think I like it but its just different to what I normally wear. Looks nice with what I'm wearing today actually.

Hells - NAP are doing a pre-reservation list for the white halston dress.

carciofi · 26/01/2010 13:44

Traceybath, your outfit sounds gorgeous. Where is your scarf from? I am a fiend for leopard print! You sound very cool too, Helles, am sure you are lamb rather than mutton.

Blossoming, I have the blue heights skinnies in McKinley. Selfridges have them in stock.

I like that bag, Fleecy.

Thanks for the link, Eshermummy, but they don't have my size. Might get the Kurt Geiger trainers instead.

I have bought more than I realised in January, two pairs of jeans, the Hush cardigown, a couple of tops, a pair of trainers and lots of clothes for DD so I am going to stop shopping and maybe buy a Mulberry bag in Feb if I sell my stuff on eBay. Unless of course I see any must-haves on this thread in the meantime!

blossoming · 26/01/2010 14:05

Thanks carciofi, I knew resistance was futile. I'm working tonight so can justify ordering from US - will be months before I get to Selfridges. Have also spent loads this month, but just getting back into pre-pregnancy clothes so allowed no?

monkeysmama · 26/01/2010 14:09

Traceybath your outfit sounds great. Where is your dress from?

My M&S purchases arrived. I love love the scarf. I am a major animal print fan anyway but it'll add colour to lots of my outfits. I've been trying to see who suggested it but can't find the post - thank you! I am not sure about the ballet flats - I think they may be too wide. I am going to try them again later. I like the colour though and they are really soft.

I've got a streaming cold & in laws here so am running round like a skivvy enjoying the company in grey leggings, grey and cream leopard print cotton baggy tshirt and a grey waterfall cardigan. Very comfy.

Blossoming no joy on shoe front so far. I saw the Dune ones and they look nice but my search will go on.

Re grey skinnies I have two pairs. These that my sister got for me in the US and these. Tbh I wear the Topshop ones most of the time as they're less tight. Since I had dd the bit under my bum seems to have become wider/more solid even though I am still slim. It's odd by the Paige ones don't fit so well though I am sure they will when my belly flattens out again . The Topshop ones don't do much for muffin tops though.

carciofi · 26/01/2010 14:29

Blossoming, definitely allowed.

MM, I know I am a Russell and Bromley pusher, but they sell Stuart Weitzman, if you know that brand, and the flats are great.

brownmia · 26/01/2010 14:44

carciofi they have discounted Ash trainers here, incl hi tops and good selection of sizes too. Ordered some myself the other day.

www.theconservatoryclothing.co.uk/ash-270.phtml

Sorry to butt in, have been lurking for the last few pages...

carciofi · 26/01/2010 14:59

Thanks Brownmia, I had ordered from them but they cancelled my order. I need a size 40.

blossoming · 26/01/2010 16:06

MM, it was me with the scarf! I don't get out much but was in M&S last week for the first time in ages and liked it, so posted on here along with the flats and the jeans. Love the jeans so much have decided to embrace the skinny and have bought these. Have also bought this long cardigan thing from Boden in slate. Anyone have it? Love this thread, keeping me going at an emotional time, but no good for bank balance.
