Feeling I look old.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 17:29

I went to the jewellers today and when looking in the mirror to see what my new earrings looked like, I caught sight of my whole face and felt and as I looked old and unattractive. I posted the other day about looking like my parents and pretty much feeling ugly so now I am looking for ideas and help to try and look better.

I do look a bit better when wearing make up but I am not confident applying it and it is also not practical to do it every day when trying to get 3 under 9's to school. I also feel unconfident when wearing it as if people will be looking at me thinking who does she think she is/what does she look like.

Nah! No one will think that if you wear make up unless you've applied it like a clown.

try a gentle facial fake tan overnight, wake up with lightly tanned healthy looking skin

bung on a bit of cream blusher.

mascara

concealer

lippy/gloss

5 mins job done. Do it in the kitchen while they are eating cereal

Hows your hair?

Earthstar · 16/01/2010 17:34

5 minute make up is enough so definitely practical to do this before school - get up just 5 mins earlier and hey presto!
Why not get Benefit to show you a 5 min make up routine?

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 17:42

Just went to put some make up on as DH has gone to get the kids from his parents. He will probably think it is a ruse to get him into bed,. I do look pretty now .

My hair is okay-ish. I am growing it and it is better now I have had it coloured.

I have some really good make up, Dior, Elizabeth Arden, (though not convinced this suits me. Should have walked away when I saw the assistant wearing bright blue eye liner, did not suit her) and Ruby & Millie.

Just put what you need on, i.e no eyeshadow if not necesary, or powder or whtever.

And think more positive, woman

janeite · 16/01/2010 17:47

I often feel as if I'm being vain by putting make up on tbh, so I understand where you're coming from - but I KNOW I look better with a bit of foundation on my t-zone and some cream blush and mascara, if nothing else. Vaseline on lips.

Oh and there have been many threads on Beauty Flash Balm lately - lots of people hate it but I am convinced that it makes me look better (usually on Mondays and Saturdays!).

LetThemEatCake · 16/01/2010 17:47

also, everyone has days like this, or shocking glimpses in the mirror. It's not necessarily how you look, at least not all the time or to everyone else.

Cyb · 16/01/2010 17:48

youre not being vain...no more than you are being vain by painting your walls a different colour

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 17:48

LOL

I like blusher and mascara, maybe eye liner too but would think that would look daft on its own without lippy and eye shadow.

OP posts:
Cyb · 16/01/2010 17:49

Nah, I wear eyeliner (smudged) without eye shadow. Just mascara. Those thick ones are good

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 17:49

My LOL was to the be more positive, woman.

I felt a bit as the girl serving us is 24 and very pretty. I am nearly old enough to be her mum! .

Like LTEC said, we all have ugly days and hot days. Enjoy the hot ones, forget about the baggy eyed ugly ones....

LetThemEatCake · 16/01/2010 17:54

my biggest tip for avoiding that baggy aging look which is slowly but surely taking over my face is to smile. It lifts everything up and disguises those lines that run from nose to mouth without the need for Botox

white teeth essential.

A fringe is also handy for looking younger, but can be annoying ...

LetThemEatCake · 16/01/2010 17:54

I do look like a bit of a grinning idiot though.

Cyb · 16/01/2010 17:55

Yes my fringe has been the making of me

MadameCastafiore · 16/01/2010 17:57

Have a fringe cut - will take years off of you instantly.

Just cover up bags under eyes, a small amount of pinky blush, neutral lip gloss and a sweep of mascara will make you look neat and clean and fresh without looking made up and made an efforty.

My biggest thing that I think makes women look old is wearing proper lippy in the day time - what is that all about?????

sfxmum · 16/01/2010 17:57

Just don't look at mirrors angled upwards to your face, don't get photographed from lower angle

and smile smile smile

but gosh do I have days like that!

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 17:57

No wrinkles.

Eyes seem to have shrunk and to have acquired black shadows at times.

Teeth not that white due to no one brushing them, or showing me how too when small.

Mostly have a fringe but growing it to the side a bit so I can see where I am going
.

Crest white teeth strips.
Concealer

traceybath · 16/01/2010 18:09

I did this the other day - polishing a mirror and looked down into it - god - my eyes!

As all the wise ladies have said - a little fake tan, a little make up and a smile does wonders.

I'm also doing the side swept fringe until I can afford botox .

Am also getting haircut and blonded again soon as feel better when its shorter and blonder.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 18:09

Not heard of the crest white teeth strips. What are they?

OP posts:
hellsbelles · 16/01/2010 19:43

fab - if you look at 95% of women they have make up on...so if you are going without then you are going to look older (I bet that 24 year old was caked in it

I don't wear a lot but I find just a tiny bit (vitalumiere to tone down my reddish cheeks and round my nose, eyeliner, mascara and some lip gloss) and I look a lot better (it takes 2 mins tops)

Also some mirrors just lie so maybe that's what happened. There is one where I work that must have been taken from Dorian Gray's attic!

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 19:47

TBF she wasn't wearing much if any as I can't really remember any particular colours, etc. I have no problem with getting older. I just hate being hungry.

OP posts:
MegSophandEmma · 16/01/2010 19:50

www.whitestrips.com/

Sellers have them on ebay. Brilliant things and I swear they work.

hellsbelles · 16/01/2010 19:51
  • why are you hungry fab? Have I missed something?
FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 16/01/2010 19:53

Hungry? wtf? I am waiting for my pudding - that is my defence.

It should have said ugly.

Thanks Meg.
