Feeling I look old.

I went to the jewellers today and when looking in the mirror to see what my new earrings looked like, I caught sight of my whole face and felt and as I looked old and unattractive. I posted the other day about looking like my parents and pretty much feeling ugly so now I am looking for ideas and help to try and look better.

I do look a bit better when wearing make up but I am not confident applying it and it is also not practical to do it every day when trying to get 3 under 9's to school. I also feel unconfident when wearing it as if people will be looking at me thinking who does she think she is/what does she look like.

Has anyone got a recommendations for foundation for really pale (more mature...) skin? I need to wear it to feel human but as I get older it seems that compacts are too dry, liquids too oily and most shades are too dark for me. Any tips for antiaging foundation?

Lucky - sorry I'm olive skinned so not sure (vitalumiere is what I use and I know they do a cream version for drier skin - it really is lovely).

I've heard a lot of people bang on about bare minerals powder foundation...doesn't work for me (possibly because I've got combination skin) but may work for dryer skin.

luckymummy2010 · 16/01/2010 20:06

I tried bare minerals - I thought it looked OK in the mirror at home (for weeks...) then I went to the hairdressers (do they deliberately make you look cr*p in their mirrors!) and thought Christ Almighty have I been walking around like this!! LOL Probably just me, not very expert with make up, it needs to be easy to apply for me to use it

There is one called SerumInside or something which may be a L'Oreal one. That is okay and comes in a pale enough shade for my beyondthepale skin. Also Max factor Perfect Skin or Second Skin or something like that.

Luckymummy
have you seen Clinique's Repair Wear foundation? www.clinique.co.ukI have used it for a few years and love it. You need only the tiniest bit and have to blend it carefully but it looks very natural and is non drying.
Iuse itin Alabaster Breeze.

I am always going on about it. problem for me is getting a shade pale enough in foundation. Pale ones seem to be made by Clinique, E Lauder and Bobbi Brown.

OP- as the others have said, make up doesn't have to take long- I can put on foundation, concealer, blusher, mascara, eye pencil, eye brows and lippie in under 10 minutes. If you use natural shades and sheer textures you won't look like a clown.

thanks purplepeony - do you use a foundation brush or fingers? I keep reading that brushes are good but when I have used sponges in the past I feel like a ton of expensive foundation gets wasted

purplepeony · 17/01/2010 16:48

LM- I just use fingers.
Like you brushes and sponges seem to waste too much.
With the RW foundastion it is a pump dispenser and 1 drop comes out. Believe me, you will not need much more. Pump it onto your hand, then dot a tiny bit on each cheek, nose, forehead and chin, then blend carefully using long sweeping strokes. If you put too much on at first it will look thick. Make sure you use a good moistuirser under it- I use their Youth Surge ,then City Block sun screen over it first.
