How many of you wear dresses and skirts for every day more than jeans?

I'm so bad at just throwing on a pair of jeans and then working my outfit round that. Wish I would wear dresses and skirts more. I do in the summer but then in the winter I just feel really overdressed for toddler group or music classes with my DD when many mums have tops with dried yoghurt on from breakfast!

Just wondered what you all wear for a normal day if you stay at home.

I've been told recently that I look like I've lost about a stone - got no scales so I dont know! So I thought I'd try and fit in my old jeans. None of them fit and it just made me depressed.

So I have resolved to not wear jeans again this year! Long tunics, dresses etc with jeggings/leggings and boots for winter, sandals for summer.

I am the dress queen. Wearing a blue jersey knee-length dress today with woolly tights and a navy cardi.
I own one pair of jeans, four skirts and about six dresses - at least that's all I own that fits atm. Am in the process of shedding the roughly three stone I have piled on over the past two years and when I have lost a bit more, I will have several more dresses to wear!

Wow good for you with the weight loss. I've put a bit on over christmas which isn't great! Where do you all get your dresses and skirts from?

I almost always wear skirts or dresses. At the moment, in this weather, teamed with thick woolen tights.

I hate jeans, find them really uncomfortable. I dpn't find them warm and if they get wet they are a nightmare. I do own a pair of jeans, but they get worn very rarely.

Hopefully · 11/01/2010 16:23

I much prefer dresses and skirts to jeans - I'm quite curvy, and have relatively long body/short legs, and it's hard to find flattering jeans. Also hate getting wet jeans, so find it easier to wear skirt/dress with boots.

I wear knitted dresses (am wearing amazing magical skinny making Brora dress atm), or simple a-line skirts that I make - think Boden fun skirt but with patterns that I like instead of Johnny's dubious taste. Wear black/tan nubuck leather boots (Duo boots are good) for casual, smarter boots for... smarter.

Am not smartest dressed person ever but have vastly improved since limiting my wardrobe to things that match, and not having to worry about tops matching skirts and jeans makes things easier again!

LaTristesse · 11/01/2010 16:23

I do wear jeans a lot in the winter, but usually with a dress / tunic over the top. Summer is mostly dresses... I have very few skirts - I think because I can't seem to find a good fit - I have a couple which are summer staples, but that's about it... Also cropped jeans in the summer too.

Hopefully · 11/01/2010 16:24

Oh, and think matt/flat/casual boots and opaque tights completely tone down any 'overdoneness'. Likewise with flip fops in summer.

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 16:25

i look HOT in jeans

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/01/2010 16:25

17lbs down, and another 30 to go . Dresses mainly come from Monsoon, Boden and Fatface - but only in the sales. The one I'm wearing today is actually Wallis though.

cordonbleugh · 11/01/2010 17:30

forgot to say that I'm only 5ft tall and a size 14/16 so jeans are either miles too long in the leg, or too small on the waist.

Dresses/tunics etc are much more comfier and flattering.

On a very limited budget so places like asda, tesco and new look (in the sales) at the moment. Would be primark but nearest one is an hours bus ride away.

Am also obsessed with cardigans, I think they make a dress more casual in the daytime, especially if its a long one, worn undone.

MollyRoger · 11/01/2010 17:33

I look hot in everything

NoahAndTheWhale · 11/01/2010 17:35

I go through phases - am having a dress/skirt phase at the moment

Today I have on a short sleeved black dress from dorothy perkins which i got in a sale in the summer. It has floaty short sleeves so I have a long sleeved top under it. Have been told it looks good .

I also am on a budget - if I see something nice that is cheap I consider getting it.

Dresses flatter my figure well (have pear shaped figure with pretty small waist) so I like wearing them.

SnowMuchToBits · 11/01/2010 17:37

Hopefully I think you have the same body as me! I also live in skirts, as find it so hard to find trousers that fit!

In the summer it will be a cotton skirt with t-shirt and sandals, and a cardigan if it's chilly.

In the winter it will be a warmer skirt with long sleeved t-shirt/top, tights and boots.

Bonsoir · 11/01/2010 17:38

Like others, I go in phases. I recently bought a new pair of jeans (thanks MN Style & Beauty ) so have been wearing them a lot, but I quickly get bored of the jeans look and want to put a skirt on.

traceybath · 11/01/2010 17:58

I wear jeans pretty much every day but do think they suit me.

I always find skirts tricksy in terms of putting tops with them.

When I stop bf I will be wearing a lot more dresses as find them easy and stylish. However it is harder to find nice day dresses I think.

LastTrainToLapland · 11/01/2010 18:04

I only have one pair of jeans and about a gazillion skirts. That says it all

I have wide hips and a comparatively narrower waist so it is a nightmare to find jeans that fit properly. If they go over my hips they gape at the waist, and if it fits at the waist I can never get it above my hips without a struggle! Skirts are so much easier. Plus they'll never go tight at the crotch if you do put on a few pounds

LetThemEatCake · 11/01/2010 18:28

50/50 in winter

90/10 in summer in favour of dresses and skirts (more specifically, skirt - a denim mini)

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 18:29

i think I am hotter

thanksverymuch

Cyb · 11/01/2010 18:34

Gareth, did you get your barnet cut. Do you look like renee?

GeorginaWorsley · 11/01/2010 18:34

I wear dresses alot in summer.
Occasionally I wear skirts/tees in summer, but usually opt for dresses.
In winter I rarely wear a skirt as I only have 2 winter ones, both of which I should put on ebay.
I do however frequently wear dresses/tunics with either thick tights or leggings, boots or flats.
Unfortunately weather so cold here atm that I have worn jeans tucked into boots today, and wore leggings every day last week.(different pairs, obv)

I never ever wear jeans or trousers. ever.

Which apparently excludes me from ever sledging without risking harsh criticsm.

I wear mostly dresses. They are very comfortable for sitting around in. I have casual dresses or tea dresses and a few casual skirts for everyday. And posher (fitted, structured, dry clean only )dresses if I am going out.

RolandButter · 11/01/2010 18:39
