I love em but they look dated.... Be gentle with me...

I really regret the passing of bootcut jeans, they are the only shape that flatter me in any way.

I think it is a sign of my middle age that I continue to wear them even though I know it dates me horribly.

weaselm4 · 08/01/2010 21:09

I couldn't give a monkeys whether they're in or out. They suit my figure so I'm going to wear them forever

compo · 08/01/2010 21:10

I still wear them to
skinny jeans, flares, high waisted, none suit pear shapes like me
and they still sell them so I still buy them

notyummy · 08/01/2010 21:10

They are still shown in a lot of mags (inc young/fashiony ones) whenever they talk about 'jeans to suit your shape'.

a compromise I have found is skinny flare jeans from Top Shop, which are flattering on the pear shaped IMHO.

YanknCock · 08/01/2010 21:11

I'm with weasel. You'll have to pry my bootcut jeans from my cold, dead thighs.

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2010 21:11

Look if you like them and they suit you wear them. Better to look good in something out of date than bad in something trendy.

SleepingLion · 08/01/2010 21:13

I wear them because they suit me. Don't know whether they're in or out, don't care. Would rather wear something I feel confident I look well in than some of the clothes I've seen on the fashion pages of the magazines recently

cakeywakey · 08/01/2010 21:13

I'm with the 'who gives a toss if they're in fashion' crowd With the size of my hips and thighs, no other jeans will do!

GrimmaTheNome · 08/01/2010 21:13

But there are still loads of bootcut jeans available - its all I could see in M&S Per Una when I was hoping for some straight jeans which fitted (I have decided that their size 10'Roma' jeans mean, well, you might once have been a size 10 but too much pizza and pasta....)

And there are still lots of boots which work with bootcut jeans.

RockBird · 08/01/2010 21:14

I don't give two tosses if they're out or not. I like them and they're staying in this house

Ceebee74 · 08/01/2010 21:16

Agree with the others - bootcut jeans suit me so I will wear them whether they are in or out of fashion.

Also love boyfriend cut jeans - will probably still be wearing those in years to come

hangoninthere · 08/01/2010 21:17

What sort of boots??? I've just bought a pair of studded ankle boots (black) and I think only a pair of skinny jeans will go with them.. (is this another thread??)

I've never been sure why bootcut jeans are called 'bootcut' - is it to do with what you are supposed to wear underneath, i.e. there is room to wear long boots underneath them? (But why would you do that?)

How do they differ, technically, from 'wideleg' styles?

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 23:56

They do look mumsy Skinny flares better

Tortington · 08/01/2010 23:57

GOK SAYS if you are a midget - you shouldn't wear bootcut - t'all about proportions

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 23:59

Custy I saw a pic of you you look beautiful You should be the poster girl for low carb!

gaelicsheep · 09/01/2010 00:16

I don't care about things that are in or out. Clothes shopping is a complete nightmare at the moment - the stuff in the shops is hideous and every one is the same. To top it all I'm nearly four months pregnant and all I want is a pair of tie-wasted loose trousers. But I can't get any can I, because they're "not in fashion". Parp to that - it drives me crazy. I tried on a pair of maternity trousers in DPs in desperation. They were so huge they would have swamped me in my last pg even when I was 9 months gone!

The only fashion I worry about is what suits me. Looking around the town it's a shame more women don't adopt that approach.

MrsSeanBean · 09/01/2010 00:22

LOL gaelic sheep. Live in a highly populated jegging-wearing area, do we?

gaelicsheep · 09/01/2010 00:36

Isn't it the same in every town? I live in the country btw and avoid the town centre like the plague!

Tortington · 09/01/2010 00:42

NODDY I BLOODY LOVE YOU

how are you doing btw?

RipMacWinkle · 09/01/2010 09:36

Custardo - out of interest, what jeans does Gok say us midgets should be wearing?

Tortington · 09/01/2010 10:53

straight leg proportions

Garrylous · 09/01/2010 12:21

noddy....

we all love a loose pair of L and ls

alkthough i wear Gap bootcut now for events like rugby or with walking boots etc

noddyholder · 09/01/2010 12:56

I love mine thankyou v much but they are not that loose!

TrillianAstra · 09/01/2010 13:00

Bootcut = small amount of flare at the bottom. Not tight to your legs. Not wide all the way down. Not massive flare. Nothing to do with boots really, unless it's the mid-90s and your tapered-leg jeans can't go over the top of your DMs.

A friend's little sister was very exicted last year when she discovered bootcut jeans - it had been skinny jeans all the way since she was old enough to care about fashion and she thought they were the coolest new thing
