I'm wearing the same make-up now that I wore twenty years ago. Who can teach me something new?

When I say I'm wearing the same make-up, I don't mean the actual same make up (cos that would be fab value for money wouldn't it), but the same style. I've been thinking for a couple of years I should go and get some new ideas, tell me where I should go oh knowledgeable ones. Thanks.

what do you currently do?

shandyleer · 02/01/2010 20:07

Black liner on top of lids, black eye liner inside lower lids, black liner underneath - you get the picture, lots of black. I feel like a much plainer and older version of Chrissy Hynde. I want to experiment with different colours and styles of eye makeup but "subtle" doesn't do anything for me (I don't think).

I used to wear lippy too but as I've got older I've lost confidence in what suits me so don't bother. I have very dark brown hair and eyes and sallow skin.

You could go for a make-over at Space NK or Bobbi Brown.

"20 years ago" might be quite a good look though. It would be funny if you went for a make-over and they did you up exactly the same way.

They won't, though. they'll introduce you to a lot of the new products that have come on the market since you were last interested (primer, for eg.) and change your look a bit.

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 02/01/2010 20:13

don't put liner inside lids - it's not a good look.
try brown instead of black
lip gloss if you don't want lippy - juicy tubes are great and prescriptives do some nice ones also

hbfac · 02/01/2010 20:14

They'll work that look for you.

Probably change the liner on the upper lid to a dark eyeshadow, applied wet, with a blunt brush.
And help you choose a lipstick.
And show you how to make the dark-eyed look, eyelinered look a. more subtle for day-time b. more sultry for night.

I reckon you should go to a Bobbi Brown counter. They are brilliant at subtle lipsticks and they have a very gorgeous dark eyeshadow called "Cappuccino" which they do a good sultry look with.

shandyleer · 02/01/2010 20:25

Ok, thanks. I'll give Bobbi Brown a go then. They won't laugh at me will they (with my 20 year old eye make up)?

Why no eyeliner on inside lids cornsilk?

it looks awful!

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 02/01/2010 20:26

Don't mean to offend - I did it in my grungy youth, but it really is a look for sulky 17 year olds only.

shandyleer · 02/01/2010 20:31

Oh crikey, I'm well past 17, will lay off it pronto!

corny I actually wear liner inside lids MOre now than I used to . It defines my eyes better. BUT I use a soft grey rather than black.

I reckon a make up counter will take your 'look' (which sounds rock chick) and put a modern twist on it. i bet they put blusher on you too.

duckyfuzz · 02/01/2010 20:39

I've just started wearing eyeliner on the inside again, after years of not doing it, as cybil says i find it defines my eyes well and goes with my new short hairstyle. I had make over at Bobbi brown a few years back and it was fab, well worth it

CybilsDrivel · 02/01/2010 20:41

All the best dresed people wear eyeliner there

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 02/01/2010 20:41

at cybil

duckyfuzz · 02/01/2010 20:44

quite

GleeE4 · 02/01/2010 20:51

everyone in teh world needs teh doublewear grey eyeliner in grafitti or summat

CybilsDrivel · 02/01/2010 20:52

is that a twist up one or sharpeny one

shandyleer · 02/01/2010 20:54

Oh, I'm confused now, to eyeline or not to eyeline? How about one eye lined, and the other not

Rock chick sounds good, but in reality my look is more very-old-chicken with no rock ...

def eyeliner but softer texture, softer colour, black too harsh and ageing unless you are out at night

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 02/01/2010 21:16

no! Don't do it - listen to auntie corny.

CybilsDrivel · 02/01/2010 21:17

eyeliner in inner lid or no eye liner on inner lid?

theres only one way to find out......

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 02/01/2010 21:18

fight!

CybilsDrivel · 02/01/2010 21:19
brimfull · 02/01/2010 21:21

do you wear it on inner lid on the upper eyelid-god it's sounding technical now

am sure St Bobbi Borwn says put it on inner upper lashes if that makes any farkin sense

southeastastra · 02/01/2010 21:22

max factor do a nice mascara with gold or pink bits that looks nice

CybilsDrivel · 02/01/2010 21:22

No I don;t wear it on upper inner lid altho those make up bints always do for nights out.

I'm loving these, cheap as chips but a great alternative to eye pencil You can't beat a bit of Collection 2000!
