What do you think about this dress?

Here

It is for a uni reunion on my birthday, in bars then a club. I'm thinking tights and ankle slouch boots with it, with lots of jewellery?

I'm 28, a size 14- bingo wings and flabby tummy my worst points, legs my best feature.

Opinions please!

I think I like it. Then I think it looks like a nightie... I can't pick which thinking I think the most... I think.

SpanishCYBILwar · 30/12/2009 19:28

Don;t like colour, or shape. In fact its virtually indistinguishable from the background on the page

KristinaM · 30/12/2009 19:29

no sorry, much nicer stuff out there. esp for a 28 yo with great legs!!

JaneiteQuiteRight · 30/12/2009 19:34

Oh no I don't like that sorry. It looks like something out of a Carry On film. Much nicer things out there.

cupofteaplease · 30/12/2009 19:34

Oh dear!

I thought the shape would be good for hiding my massive tummy, whilst being short enough to show off my legs.

Must admit I'm not overly taken with the colour!

Too nightie-esque/wedding dress.

Sorry

cookielove · 30/12/2009 19:38

i actually like it, i think it is very pretty, and i think the colour is fab, some great big chunky beads maybe a nice deep purple over the top, and a bit of bling in the ear ring department, fab

cookielove · 30/12/2009 19:39

this is also nice

SpanishCYBILwar · 30/12/2009 19:39

carry on film, lol

PoppyIsApain · 30/12/2009 19:40

I like it

SpanishCYBILwar · 30/12/2009 19:40

that black one looks even more like Joan Sims negligee

cookielove · 30/12/2009 19:40

and this one

geordieminx · 30/12/2009 19:42

nice print

covers all areas

lots here

CeeUnit · 30/12/2009 19:46

Would you consider something cut under your bust and sort of flowy over your tum? I think that smock tops can often make you look bigger than you are. An empire line pulls you in at your narrowest point and a bit of clever gathering can cover lumpy bits.

Wish I was clever enough to provide a link to the kind of thing I am on about

Also spanx a brilliant, I would never get dressed up without them!

cupofteaplease · 30/12/2009 19:52

Thanks for the helpful links.

CeeUnit- I know what type of dresses you mean. I would consider one, but the problem is always sleeves- most dresses you see tend to be sleeveless or short sleeved- I thought I'd struck gold with the Topshop one!

mrswill · 30/12/2009 19:54

I quite like it, especially the way you intend to style it, but i do agree these sort of things tend to make you look bigger. Id wear some cracking spanx, and a belt to draw you in at the waist, to even things out. Post some pics so we can see!

JaneiteQuiteRight · 30/12/2009 19:55

So your requirements are: sleeves/tummy flattering? What is norkage like? Budget? Colour prefs?

Sorry about the Carry On comment - it was mean.

traceybath · 30/12/2009 19:58

I do like it but think it would make anyone look pregnant as just too shapeless.

You need ruching - like this

I think warehouse had something similar but much less £££.

Or skinny jeans/shoeboots and a glam top with draping/ruching. So show off legs and conceal tummy.

cupofteaplease · 30/12/2009 20:47

Janeite- my bust is small, I'd be prepared to spend around £50, don't mind colour of dress- I have dark brown hair. Am still trawling the net!

I think the dress is lovely.

You will look a lot classier with sleeves IMO.

It should be worn with black opaques and black or grey patent/suede heels- forget the slouchy boots and do NOT wear a belt with it (sorry mrswill!)

Something like these or these

CeeUnit · 31/12/2009 07:47

I like to cover my arms too. I have found dresses that tick the boxes before, but when I can't I opt for a bit of layering and put a very thin 3/4 length sleeve top underneath. Covers the arms and keeps you toasty warm

Agree with mrswill; if you wear the original dress a belt will give you a better shape.

butadream · 31/12/2009 08:31

I actually like the original dress too, esp. if you have long hair, sort of hippy chick vibe.

tethersjinglebellend · 31/12/2009 09:11

It will look awful with a belt- too short a dress.

ShirleyKnott · 31/12/2009 09:16

GROSS
you will look like a ghost

cupofteaplease · 02/01/2010 13:45

Thanks for all the opinions and advice. I have ordered the dress and will make my decision once I have put the whole outfit together. [smile
