As you can tell I am hopeless with this sort of thing, want to get a new one but not sure where to start looking, mid 40's normal to dryish skin

High street shop preferable as I want it asap and would like to look at it and try it before buying

Thanks!

I use Clarins Extra-Firming Foundation, have the same sort of skin as you and am fast approaching 40.... It is about £25 a bottle but I find I only ever buy two a year as it goes a long way. Hope that helps !

I am a fan of Clinique Repair wear foundation- gives good cover and looks natural. I like it as i am very fair and the palest shade suits me well.

I also rate Lancome foundations but haven't used them for ages.

hohoholepew · 14/12/2009 17:30

I love Maybelline Liquid Minerals, it gives good coverage but doesn't feel cakey or heavy. Good price too.

squeaver · 14/12/2009 17:32

Chanel Vitalumiere. It's the best.

Bucharest · 14/12/2009 17:32

I'm 44 and have just started using Clarins Instant Smooth mousse foundation- I love it, and have found (after many years) The One for me!

BrianGiggs · 14/12/2009 17:35

deffo for dryish skin

chanel

hohoholepew · 14/12/2009 17:44

Don't listen to them, that Chanel one is shite.

ModestlyglazedHam · 14/12/2009 17:47

Lancome color ideal is lovely for me. And if your skin is quite clear it's possible to mix it with moisturiser and still have great coverage.

fimac1 · 14/12/2009 17:56

Thanks will try out the Clarins and Lancome one, I tried that one to hohoholepew after recommendations on here ages ago and it didn't suit me either

ho ho is a cheapskate
i find lancome colours odd

hohoholepew · 14/12/2009 18:02

I bought it and it's shite.

I should do reviews for Grazia.

BrianGiggs · 14/12/2009 18:03

lol
yes thats abotu the right level
then " mary portas uses it and she is fierce"

ModestlyglazedHam · 14/12/2009 18:04

My face is an odd colour

DarrellRivers · 14/12/2009 18:06

mac select foundation here
Great range of colours, I have 2 , a paler one for winter and a little more brown for the summer, and in-between I mix the two

EvilTwinsStoleSantasSleigh · 14/12/2009 18:06

I use this and I really like it. It adjusts to your skin tone when you put it on, and is nice and light, so only covers where you need it. I have very sensitive skin and tend to stick to what I know won't cause a reaction.

hohoholepew · 14/12/2009 18:07

I'm a bit orange today. Every time I overdo the tan, people in work tell me how well I look . I must look vile usually.

DarrellRivers · 14/12/2009 18:08

And the Laura Mercier tinted moisturisers are nice.
They are a good step for the shy of foundation folk
I didn't like the coverage tbh and there was not a wide range of colour, I think only 3 so that's rubbish for getting the right shade

hohoholepew · 14/12/2009 18:08

Revlon do a good one, you turn a dial to get the colour you want.
Or it could be Max Factor.

sh77 · 14/12/2009 19:42

Chanel Vitalumiere - best by far. Moisturising also.

carciofi · 14/12/2009 19:53

Giorgio Armani foundation is fab.

MarioandLuigi · 15/12/2009 11:08

I use Clarins Instant Smooth - (I am only 26 but my skin is dry) and I love it. I use a primer underneath which really helps to make me look more radiant than I am!

Bucharest · 15/12/2009 11:14

Marioandluigi- it's fab isn't it? I actively look forward to putting it on (never did before) What is this primer of which you speak? MIght I need some?

LouLouH · 15/12/2009 11:25

I had a make up specialist come to my house and out of all the foundations out there the one she recommends is Tesco's own brand! Cheap, but i changed to it after she said how good it is and i've used it ever since.

MarioandLuigi · 15/12/2009 11:29

I love it - I use a Benefit 'That Gal' primer underneath which is fab
