What items of clothing do you have that people, even complete strangers, always compliment you on?

For me its my Fly London Mol boots (for which I have to thank Lulumama for as they didn't fit her so I bought them from her).

I was in the hospital waiting room with DD this morning and a complete stranger asked me where they were from as she loved them. This has happened at least half a dozen times this month, some strangers, some playground Mums.

Do you think are people more likely to compliment and ask out-right where you've bought something from these days?

What do you get compliments about?

I have a very old but smart wool coat in light brown it has a fur collar and cuffs and everytime i wear it people compliment me on it .....it was from canda at c&a its that old!!

Bonsoir · 10/12/2009 12:21

Not me, but DD (5) gets rave comments about her Grevi knitted woollen beret - a delicious shade of raspberry with a flower embellishment. And her purple suede boots.

krugerparkrules · 10/12/2009 12:26

a cusco jacket (about 4 years old now) - gets a comment everytime i wear it, i have often being asked where i got it and i can see the person mentally remembering the brand so they can go and see if they can get it!!!!

VerityBrulee · 10/12/2009 13:03

A brown full length fake fur coat that I got in a vintage shop years ago for next to nothing. IIRC the new buttons I put on it cost more than the coat itself. I get compliments every time I wear it.

DD gets compliments every time she leaves the house, which pleases me greatly as I put a huge amount of effort into her wardrobe [shallow emoticon]. For me, one of the great pleasures of having a dd is dressing her.

ChatterClausIsComingToTown · 10/12/2009 13:53

Cliche I know, but most of my Boden clothes get favourable remarks, time and time again, from strangers and friends alike.

If only Johnnie hadn't cheated on me with that American whore..sigh...everything was nearly so perfect.

GentleOtter · 10/12/2009 13:58

One of our GPs admired my cowboy boots and asked where I got them from as she had fat calves too.

Seriously Ruby?

You're not hiding them under jeans are you?

I tend to wear my mine with skirts , or occasionally skinny jeans.

A dress from TKMaxx that looks almost identical to this but actually even nicer. I paid £19.99

IvanaDK · 10/12/2009 14:06

My black and white cow jeans. They're mostly for childrens birthday parties now, but I used to wear them when I went out when I was younger.

squeaver · 10/12/2009 14:06

Mulberry handbag

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 10/12/2009 14:17

I have several pairs of Fly Mol boots, too many Boden clothes and a Mulberry handbag and I never get compliments.

Helewise · 10/12/2009 14:34

My Boden mixed tweed jackets with elbow patches (bought two a couple of years ago, I liked them so much).
Dd's Joules yellow Joules coat with added fluffstuffs kitsch brooch. My baby dd's Baby Bloch shoes (she now has three pairs) always receive praise too.

Nobody has ever commented on my Mulberry bags (I only have two, three if you count a very old one), but they are very discreet and plain looking.

SixtyFootDoll · 10/12/2009 14:37

A Green knitted tunic top from Asda

Nowtheres4 · 10/12/2009 14:43

A very old skirt from next, blue/grey tweedy, multi layer wiht uneven hems. i wear it every winter as its comfy with duo boots and plain jumper and for some reason everytime i wear it i get asked if i've lost weight and where i brought it.

dd we are always stopped when she wears her purple boden duffle coat, with her green boden suede boots (they match the lining!!) I love dressing dd more than buying clothes for myself.

I bought a Phase 8 dress about 6 yers ago for my brothers wedding, it was slung over a wrong rack in John Lewis, tried it on andloved it.

everytime I wear it I get complimetns, its a pinky vintagey looking pattern, simple cut, veh flattering.

I had a dress maker shorten it so I could wear it daytime too.

it cost me £100 which seemed a fortune at the time but was so worth it

Black Hobbs high-heeled suede boots. About 4 years old now, but always get compliments on them. Was the first pair of shoes I bought that cost me three figures, and I was really anxious about buying them. I've got over that now.........

Poledra · 10/12/2009 15:20

Oh, and a black military-style long coat with fur collar, Jacques Vert, bought in one of the outlet shops. Looks fab with aforementioned Hobbs boots

deaddei · 10/12/2009 19:08

My duo Florence boots.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 10/12/2009 19:10

everything I wear, naturally

seriously, some of my most-complimented buys are courtesy of Ebay and a few quid

Francagoestohollywood · 10/12/2009 19:14

a pair of grey, patent leather round toe shoes from Topshop. They must be 4 yrs old and people still ask me if they are Marc Jacob's

NorbertDentressAngel · 10/12/2009 19:14

AnyFucker- I agree, charity shop buys are good for compliments.

I think its because stuff you buy from there is sometimes from obscure shops so nobody has seen it before in Next etc or its from a few years ago so not currently being worn by every other person
