What items of clothing do you have that people, even complete strangers, always compliment you on?

For me its my Fly London Mol boots (for which I have to thank Lulumama for as they didn't fit her so I bought them from her).

I was in the hospital waiting room with DD this morning and a complete stranger asked me where they were from as she loved them. This has happened at least half a dozen times this month, some strangers, some playground Mums.

Do you think are people more likely to compliment and ask out-right where you've bought something from these days?

What do you get compliments about?

I have a dress which is a copy of the Roland Mouret galaxy dress which is very flattering and always gets commented on.

A really unusual bead and ribbon necklace that strangers have stopped me to ask wher i got it.

A teal 40's style dress.

All from top shop.

an enormous double layer fleece lined brown woolly fat face jumper that i 'borrow' from dh who is a foot taller and five stone heavier than me... i try to rationalise it's because it looks cosy, and not that it hides my figure, but why does it never happen when i wear clothes that fit?

2 dresses from Boden. I have bought nothing else there for me, ever. But for the last 2 christmas parties at work, I have worn 2 boden dresses (one a black, wool smart dress that's low cut and has a wide elastic band and then flows out to your knees iyswim and the other a jersey wrap dress in a sort of wine colour).

Maybe a bit young for me however they look great when worn with jeans, jeggings, joggers or anything else!

My camel John Rocha coat with red stitching around the hem and cuffs, I have had it at least 9 years and still get compliments when I wear it.

beautiful bag

EggyAllenPoe · 25/02/2010 20:56

long blue velvet coat with mandarin-style collar and black frogging.

long coats tend to be well-complemented reading through - they really make your winter outfit.

sarah arnett silk/wool blend day dress in a beautiful chrysanthemum print.

black fitted silk dress with sweetheart neckline. same thing in paperweight silk print also well complemented.

long bias cut silk velvet skirt from Monsoon, worn with black ballet-wrap top.

maxi length tartan skirt worn with bondage-style belt and white silk shirt. had to be sooo slim to wear it, or look like tug-boat-annie.

..'these are a few of my favourite things..'

ladylush · 25/02/2010 22:23

Whenever I wear a necklace made by these folk:
One button necklace

I am wearing one today and have had FIVE people talk to me about it. (Though I have to say that I have met an awful lot of new people today at work and perhaps they were just all stuck for something to say)...

KristinaM · 25/02/2010 23:07

red suede 40s style shoes Clarks

fur hat (H&M childrens department)

yellow 3/4 sleeve tulip shaped coat ( M&S but I'd never admit it)most recently admired my assistant in Jaeger

vesela · 26/02/2010 07:48

Those One Button necklaces are lovely, domesticslattern - just what I've been looking for. Thanks!

Mine is a grey crinkle tweed skirt with a black tier underneath from Promod. It's not even my favourite thing (although very useful) but other people seem to love it.

Busytray · 26/02/2010 13:42

Laughingly I get more compliments when wearing my Dickies Overalls it's mainly from my husband but I do get the odd compliment, I think more because people are suprised I am wearing overalls rather than thinking I look good in them. I got my oldest girl some red overalls she loves being like mummy, we have a large well kept garden I like to get the kids involoved and it really saves on the washing. Admittedly I dont wash them after every use but they look better with a little dirt on.

SoMuchToBits · 26/02/2010 13:48

My Boden lustrous patent boots, which I bought in the sale before Christmas. They are in the mulberry colour, which is a vivid pink, and I have had loads of compliments about those.

Even a random customer in the butcher's shop where my Mum lives commented on them. Dh couldn't believe it yesterday, as two people we met said they liked them.
