Are any of these nice or am I losing my freaking mind?

I'm looking for a dress to wear on nights out.

I do not want...

Sequins
Tunics
Vest dresses
Strapless
BodyCon
Shoulder Pads
Black
Anything to wear with leggings

Unfortunately these criteria pretty much rule out everything on the high street at the moment!

My style is eclectic but at heart I'm a rock chick/hippy/wannabe 50's pin-up (I'm really helping here aren't I?!)

Have trawled the interwebs and these few have piqued my interest. Am I mad?

I'm 29 and 5'3 (so can wear shorter dresses with opaques without flashing my modesty), a 12/14 with dark hair. Good legs and good 36D boobs. Belly that can be tamed with good knickers.

Keep coming back to this one. Love the colour, think it would look good with my colouring. Would wear with opaques and heels.

I think this pretty but a bit floatier than my usual taste. Would be planning to make it a bit rockier with make-up and accessories.

Really like this one but it's much dressier than my usual.

Or are they all minging?

I like the kimono dress. Don't like the pink one, probably because the colour wouldn't suit me!

notyummy · 01/12/2009 15:21

OK - think the first (kimono) one is GORGEOUS. Not actually my taste, but with the description you gave of yourself think it would really suit you(I am pale red head so would/could not wear it!)

Not that keen on the second TBH. Bit of a 'Cadburys flake girl from 1979' look.

Like the third. Think it would great with killer black heels and no/few accessories.

CMOTdibbler · 01/12/2009 15:22

I like the kimono dress. In fact, I may buy it myself

nickschick · 01/12/2009 15:22

First one definitely

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/12/2009 15:24

I like the first one.

Monsoon has loads of dresses in a similar style.

ChrisMissWooWoo · 01/12/2009 15:25

kimono

Intergalactic · 01/12/2009 15:25

I'm not very keen on the first one (but the new look website is crap on iPhone so could only see a tiny picture). The second one I like the sound of rocking it up a bit (black eyeliner?) and the third one is mega IMHO.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/12/2009 15:28

www.pretaportobello.com/shop/dresses.aspx

Loads here, some really really nice ones.

Why oh why am I on another dresses thread (hides credit card)

notyummy · 01/12/2009 15:30

Thedevilwearsprimark

Damn you, damn you!!

I had convinced myself I didn't want or need any more dresses....and then I clicked that link.

Louby3000 · 01/12/2009 15:31

I think you could get more wear out of the Kimono one, flat boots, boyfriend cardi for a Sunday lunch, or you could totally dress it up for an event. I do also like the dark sparkly one too, but it is a bit "night out!" so is maybe limited to a few wears. I would get them both. Don't get the pink one. too ditsy baby dollish

BunnyLebowski · 01/12/2009 15:33

You lot are so damn helpful! The kimono was my favourite of the 3 so I've just bought it!

TDWP - That site is dangerous! Too many dresses!

One final thing....I thinking black opaques and black platforms yes? Red shoes would be too matchy-matchy and would look odd with black tights?

Thanks y'all

ohhh that kimono dress is fab, i may buy it myself

yes to blakc tights and shoes

badietbuddy · 01/12/2009 15:49

The first is lovely BUT I wouldn't wear such a high neck with big boobs. If you can get to a Primark, they have a near identical one with more of a V neck for about a tenner.

badietbuddy · 01/12/2009 15:51

What is with all the bloody spammers on S & B atm? Hanfleming I'm sure your shop is wonderful, but pay for bloody advertising. And in future, do be warned that nothing sets off my spam alarm more than the phrase 'yummy mummy'. Bleargh

that would be 'site'. Interesting that your first post was advertising, and now you get aggressive. Nice.

EdgarAleNPie · 01/12/2009 16:06

kimono.

don't like the pink one.

the blue looks a bit over worked.

BunnyLebowski · 01/12/2009 16:06

I thought the same badietbuddy about my boobs (and incidentally about han's first post. The wording just sounded like an advert - sorry if I'm wrong han) but I'm sure they've deflated down a size recently thanks to still bf'ing!

They don't look mahoosive in proportion to the rest of me so hoping it will look ok!

Now to find some shoes!

OP posts:
piratecat · 01/12/2009 16:10

TDWP link, is brilliant. So many onthere that would suit you. Would suit me too if i was a stone lighter and ten yrs younger (sobs)!!

I LOVE the kimono dress.

BunnyLebowski · 01/12/2009 20:42

Any further words of wisdom ladies?

For shoes I have found the following so far.....

I've never worn anything like these but in am attempt to look more edgy and stylish am willing to try! Good or bad?

Can't work out if the detail is red or pink?

Would these work?? Cheap as chips but might look it

More comfortable with this kinda style but are they a bit frumpy?

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 01/12/2009 20:46

No.1 - very nice

No.2 - hard to pull of that colour and fabric

No 3 - awful

BunnyLebowski · 01/12/2009 20:58

Thanks MrsMattie! I'm guessing you mean the dresses rather than the shoes?

In that case I've already agreed with you and bought the first one!

Hope it's as nice in real life!

Loving the shoe boots Bunny - I am tall so would look like a tranny, but secretlt they are the footwear I would like to have!

(DH would sulk as he doesn't like me towering over him!)

heartofgold · 01/12/2009 21:06
