Are any of these nice or am I losing my freaking mind?

I'm looking for a dress to wear on nights out.

I do not want...

Sequins
Tunics
Vest dresses
Strapless
BodyCon
Shoulder Pads
Black
Anything to wear with leggings

Unfortunately these criteria pretty much rule out everything on the high street at the moment!

My style is eclectic but at heart I'm a rock chick/hippy/wannabe 50's pin-up (I'm really helping here aren't I?!)

Have trawled the interwebs and these few have piqued my interest. Am I mad?

I'm 29 and 5'3 (so can wear shorter dresses with opaques without flashing my modesty), a 12/14 with dark hair. Good legs and good 36D boobs. Belly that can be tamed with good knickers.

Keep coming back to this one. Love the colour, think it would look good with my colouring. Would wear with opaques and heels.

I think this pretty but a bit floatier than my usual taste. Would be planning to make it a bit rockier with make-up and accessories.

Really like this one but it's much dressier than my usual.

Or are they all minging?

on shoes the last one but I loved the 3rd dress, but I can not get enough sequins, glitz and fur (no I am not Liz mc donald!! )

BunnyLebowski · 01/12/2009 21:14

Oooh that dress is gorge heartofgold!

And toppoptart I do like a wee bit of glitz now and then too! Am hating the sequin overload in the shops at the moment though. It's just too much.

I bought this:

www.pretaportobello.com/shop/dresses/dresses/casimira-black-circus-print-wrap-dress.aspx

Not the most exciting thing on there, but I can wear it to work, or with leggings/footless tights at the weekend. Lots of other things I am mulling over - will see how the customer service/quality is when I get the first.

I also like :

www.pretaportobello.com/shop/dresses/dresses/trollied-dolly-floral-tea-dress.aspx

and

www.pretaportobello.com/shop/dresses/dresses/blush-navy-button-front-dress.aspx

Your outfit sounds great...let us know how it looks when everything arrives!

BunnyLebowski · 03/12/2009 09:37

Oh I really love the one you bought! Could be dressed up very easily too!

I have to say your second link (the trollied dolly dress) is my favourite thing on the site! Especially in the darker blue option. Hmmmmmmmm......no DP will strangle me if I buy any more dresses!

My dress should arrive today.....will try on and report back!

And......it's a big fat NO!

Too shiny, too high in the neck (you were right badietbuddy) and just does not suit me .

Off into town now to get a refund and keep looking. Bum.

Bummer - was hoping you were sorted! That website is amazing I am already dreaming....

notyummy · 03/12/2009 12:32

Do you have time to get something from online - perhaps that Pretaportobello site?

What a shame!

BunnyLebowski · 04/12/2009 10:57

All sorted! I exchanged the kimono dress for another one in New Look. It's not on their website but it's really cute, a wee bit like this one by the same brand.

Sending the shoe/boot things back and have just bought these platforms which will go much better and I'll get much more wear out of as they're my kinda style.

Together with the opaques the whole look is kinda sixties cool which I love.

Don't think I'll bother trying to be 'edgy' again .

Phew!
